  1. I’m a proud Graduate of University of Maryland, College Park. Bear in mind that my fellow Terps are hanging out, outside, in 100+ degree weather and awful humidity to get those tickets. I’m just disappointed they held it in Ritchie. What? Wasn’t the Comcast Center available?

  2. Wow. It is always a thrill for to see so many Americans outside the noise machine in Washington and the msm lining up eagerly to see their President. I saw a young woman asking a question of the Prez and then asking if she could shake his hand; then there was a guy who suggested to the Prez to have a small debt-ceiling raise now and do the rest after 2012 because they will have thrown the hooligans out of Congress! I got a chuckle out of those two…

Thanks as always BWD. This keeps our spirits up!

  3. I like PBO statement that, “The American people wanted divided government”….translation, you purposely gave the keys back to the “R’s”, so don’t get mad at me.

  4. I hope many members of that audience in College Park were inspired to get involved in President Obama’s re-election campaign. We can really use your energy in VA as well as MD.

  5. Great speech, He made a Very Strong Case. Now the Nut jobs (tea baggers) have to understand whats at stake.

  6. Seriously, the country needs him and we appreciate him so much. I don’t know of anyone else people would wait in this horrid heat to see except our great POTUS Obama. 😀 Obama2012

  7. The rest of PBO’s statement which could be used for a campaign slogan was the American people wanted divided government not disfunctional government.

  8. “In 2010 the American people voted for a divided government, not for a dysfunctional government”.

Nail, meet hammer – BWAM !

  9. First, thanks so much for this site and your faithful commitment to make this one of havens. I appreciate you very much BWD. And because of your commitment to us we were able to again see our President in action before the people live with interesting questions and of course detail answers from him. I felt that the people are still with the President, especially the younger people and the crowds represents what American should look like. This was a beautiful townhall. Thanks again, BWD for allowing us to come here and comment and stick together to support our President and work to re-elect him for sure.

  10. LOL I heard the fellow and his hooligan reference. PBO never skipped a beat; he thoughtfully answered the man’s question.

  11. No body , but no body will be able to beat this President, yes he Can and Will you go Mr, President.

  12. Anyone notice from last night’s MSNBC shows that the VA Governor early on was against raising the deficit until it came to his attention that VA would be among the first five states to suffer the most if it wasn’t raised. Now he is doing air time speeches about the importance of raising the debt ceiling. I wonder if he could talk to Eric Cantor about that?

  13. But, But The Pollester are confused as why he is doing better than reagan, and Clinton.

  14. These teabag governors are pathic. When it looks like it will affect HIS state, it’s NOW time to raise the debt ceiling. You would think that he would have known that being a “fiscal conservative”. I guess he was too busy listening to Rush Limpballs and not Moody’s.

  15. Question. Why have minorities always lagged behind in each recession?

I would like to know the factors.

Some republicans like bachmann are complaining that the black community has been hurting the most under this administration.

  16. Can you imagine young people waiting in this nasty weather for a Jon hunstman or Tim pawlenty or Mittens?

I say to the GOP: “FAIL – Don’t bother even trying again.”

  17. That governor illustrates so clearly what is wrong with today’s Republican party. They just don’t know what they are talking about in most cases. They strike a position that they think will hurt or just oppose the President without doing any researching on how that position would play out in the real world. So they say NO to raising the debt ceiling even though everyone tells them it would be disastrous until it is finally pointed out to them how they personally will be affected adversely.

  18. Well, when they “balance” their budget with smoke, mirrors and accounting gimmicks (and in Perry’s case, BILLIONS of FED money…he hates the feds SO much) when the rubber has to finally meet the road…well….maybe we DO NEED TO RAISE THE DEBT CEILING because the amount they would have to pay for everything would go WAY UP! They are so pathetic and predictable.

  19. I was thinking about this debt ceiling vote. Aren’t these Republicans the ones always screaming about protecting the US from those terrorists? What’s going to happen to all the agencies that actually DO all that for us?? Hell, is the FAA shut down yet? If people would just THINK about what they say, and extrapolate that out further to see the long term effects, maybe we wouldn’t have to have these stupid, ridiculous conversations.

  20. “If Abraham Lincoln could make compromises in the Emancipation Proclamation, surely we can compromise on budget negotiations.”

Yeah, Right, on more Nail meeting the Hammer !

  21. In our country, minority groups tend to dominate the lowest economic segments of our society. Not all minority members are economically disadvantaged nor are all economically disadvantaged people minorities, but the lowest rungs of the social ladder do tend to be heavily minority. In a recession it is the lowest levels that suffer first, most and longest. Therefor when a recession hangs on like this one, that minority overrepresentation among the poorest, makes the averages for those groups fall. The republicans know this and they also know that they are the ones who brought about the pain, but they are trying to place the blame for their own disasters onto the President by using those statistics, which do show losses for minority communities due to the recession, and twisting them to say that it is his fault and his policies that caused the losses. It is up to us to keep pointing out what is behind the losses, what is being done and by whom to help reverse them and what policies caused them and who is still advocating those polilcies.

  22. Students don’t camp out all night to hear some politician give a speech, I said students don’t camp out all night to hear some politician give a speech. They camp out to get tickets for a concert or a basketball or football game. Someone wake me up when any other politician can draw students out to camp out all night just to hear that politician give a speech.

  23. Exactly Don – give me call when students start camping out overnight in exceedingly uncomfortable temperatures just to see/hear Michelle bachman, Pawlenty, Romney or Hunstman.

  24. I love seeing students still fired up for Obama. It always give me a thrill.

It seems that lost in all of the hubabloo of the debt ceiling negotiations is that DADT repeal has been certified and will end in September. It is so weird seeing that in print. I knew that Obama would follow through on getting DADT repeal finalized, yet I thought it would take longer. It’s truly excellent news.

  25. “Unemployment benefits, by definition, are needed – so they would be spent – a stimulus”.

Ooooh, hit it again on the head.

The reason Keynesian economics work is that if you choose the right way to stimulate the economy all will come back because the money is spent locally – i.e. to buy things from American businesses.

  26. It is largely because minorities tend to have the smallest share of the nation’s wealth; and tend to be poorly represented in the business and political elite classes. They are usually the last to be hired, and the first to be hired. They are the least likely to get a promotion and a raise or a bonus. Usually, minority groups have the least concentration of wealth hence, in the event of a recession, they are likely to experience hard times. Many tend to rent rather than own homes of their own and, as you can see from the recent Housing mortgage scam, minorities were rail-roaded with a promise of owning a home only to end up under water.

So, when the recession end as it just did, mostly Wall-street business elites are still sitting on the money, raking in profits but still refusing to hire–mainly minorities–racial, gender too, this should include students –until they extract more favors from the administration–read the expiration of the Bush tax cuts or their dislike of the Consumer protection Bureau that MS Warren just helped create.

Lastly, minorities do not have and cannot afford expensive lobbyists to lobby congress on their behalf. This should explain why so many good job bills the Prez sent to Congress were simply ignored because Congress was listening to Wallstreet Lobbyists. As a result many construction, custodial and maintainence jobs where minorities are most represented have not been created yet…you must have heard the PreZ beg Congress to move on building America’s infrastructure to employ those laid off after the meltdown in Housing or Home construction…

  27. Thanks to the House Republicans that would not put forth a jobs bill, denied extending unemployment for the first time and now the debt ceiling which will hurt everyone.

  28. I don’t know the answer. Perhaps one of the other astute commenters on these kinds of things can help.

But one thing I do know is that Republicans in Congress don’t give a whit for minority community of the ppor in general. So, if any one of them is complaining about those communities suffering, they are the ones that want to cut every social programs that helps the poor.

Like Bachmann or any of those other candidates give a whit. They don’t!!

  29. Well I think if a group have been falling behind before a recession, of course they will be further behind when there is one. Why would there be a surge in minority employment when the GOP is cutting jobs in every state they have power in, going out their way to ruin our fragile economic recovery meanwhile John Boehner leads a GOP House wanting to give big corporation tax cuts, those same corporations that refuse to hire folks. *sigh*

POTUS Obama has put forth a bunch of legislation to help minorities as well as all of us, prepare for the future. It is up to us to take advantage tho.. http://www.whitehouse.gov/issues

  30. BWD thanks for these wonderful pics!

    They make me !

And, like us, see how much these students and others love him…

They’re willin’ to get there early for a seat/ticket!

They’re willin’ to stand in long lines!

They’re willin’ to stand in 100+-degree weather!

But, of course, WE are willin’ to do these things to re-elect PBHO and to get him a “sane” Congress, which will be willin’ to work w/him!

    Right? 😉

  31. Particularly as pertaining to African Americans, the answer is racism. Why should I care what Bachmann says? What has she done for people of color?

  32. Yup. To the utter disappointment and dismay of the right wing and professional left, POTUS is going strong. Phenomenal President.

  33. INVESTING IN THE JOBS OF TOMORROW…

Last week I saw firsthand TWO GROUNDBREAKING CLEAN ENERGY PROJECTS – THE MIDWEST’S LARGEST ROOFTOP SOLAR PANEL ARRAY AT GSA’S MAJOR GENERAL EMMET J. BEAN FEDERAL CENTER IN INDIANAPOLIS AND THE COUNTRY’S LARGEST GEOTHERMAL PROJECT AT BALL STATE UNIVERSITY. These two Indiana projects are creating jobs that will form the backbone of our nation’s 21st century economy while providing useful information that will inform decision-making nationwide.

GSA HAS INVESTED IN SOLAR POWER TECHNOLOGY TO CUT OPERATING COSTS AT FEDERAL BUILDINGS ACROSS THE COUNTRY, but what makes the Bean Center’s solar array special is its sheer size with over 6,000 panels, as well as the building’s solar test lab. The lab will test how four different solar technologies perform under diverse Midwestern weather conditions. The rooftop installation created over 100 high paying green collar jobs, and the data collected at the test lab will be widely shared to foster continued growth in the solar industry…

THESE PROJECTS IN INDIANA ARE GREAT EXAMPLES OF HOW CLEAN ENERGY TECHNOLOGY IS PROVIDING NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR BUSINESSES TO CREATE CUTTING-EDGE JOBS that will continue to grow in the coming years. In developing clean and renewable energy we are laying the foundation for remarkable economic growth and investing in the nation’s future.

  34. Obama certifies ‘don’t ask’ repeal
Plus: The president vows support for Norway, and he says the deficit debate is about “values.”

The policy formally ends on September 20; where is the gratitude from the ingrates in the PL of LGBT?

  35. Many sad facts here. I would just add that education is key. It’s not a guarantee, of course, but it helps to protect oneself from the fluctuations in the economy.

  36. Very true africa! They are a bunch of baloney; on one hand lets cut all spending and the other I care so deeply about the poor and minorities. It’s amazing that no news organization calls them on this nonsense.

  37. I don’t know how many of you have subscribed to the White House Cutting Waste newsletter. Got this one today.

Cutting Waste: A data center the size of 3.5 football fields

Just as our cell phones and computers have gotten progressively more efficient over the past decade, so too have data servers. Unfortunately, rather than following the private sector’s lead of shrinking the size and number of the facilities used to house the computers that store their data, agencies have gone in the opposite direction. Between 1998 and 2010, the Federal government quadrupled the number of data centers we operate.

Earlier this week, as part of the President’s Campaign to Cut Waste, we announced that in 2012, we will shut down 178 data centers, bringing us to a total of 373 data centers that will be shut down by the end of 2012. This includes the 195 data centers previously announced to be closed in 2011, 81 of which have already been shut down this year.

This represents substantial progress towards our goal of shutting down more than 800 data centers by 2015, a move that is expected to save taxpayers more than $3 billion.

The data centers being added to the shut down list today are scattered across about 30 states and range from a 195,000 sq ft Department of Homeland Security facility in Alabama (roughly the size of a 3 and a half football fields) to four Department of Agriculture data centers in the same zip code, each of which is less than 1,000 square feet.

You can see a complete list of the affected centers here.

By shrinking our data center footprint we will save taxpayer dollars, cutting costs for infrastructure, real estate and energy, and at the same time, moving to a more nimble 21st century model.

Stay tuned for more updates from The Campaign to Cut Waste as we continue our efforts to hunt down and eliminate misspent tax dollars in every agency and department across the federal government.

  38. Yes it is…

PBHO *IS* a ‘Phenomenal’ President! 😉

STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT ON CERTIFICATION OF REPEAL OF DON’T ASK, DON’T TELL…

Today, WE HAVE TAKEN THE FINAL MAJOR STEP TOWARD ENDING THE DISCRIMINATORY ‘DON’T ASK, DON’T TELL’ LAW that undermines our military readiness and violates American principles of fairness and equality. In accordance with the legislation that I signed into law last December, I HAVE CERTIFIED AND NOTIFIED CONGRESS THAT THE REQUIREMENTS FOR REPEAL HAVE BEEN MET. ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ will end, once and for all, in 60 days—on September 20, 2011….

  39. Agree—Bachmann even mentioning it is almost a crime. I doubt she loses any sleep about unemployed minorities. She’s too busy yelling that she would never agree to raise the debt celing, followed by outrageous statements that prove she has zero understanding about what the debt ceiling is.

  40. Obama to make a statement momentarily. Boehner has walked away from any further talks, according to msnbc. Yes, that’s what Obama is saying. Unbelievable.

  41. Just donated $25.00 as part of the Friday Night Money Bomb through BWD’s page.

  42. BREAKING!!!!!! Boehner breaks off debt talks. PBO kept insisting on tax revenues and on saving entitlements.

But, but, but, sources said he caved!!

    This is MY President.

  43. Folks why would anybody take Michelle Bachmann seriously in regards to the African American community? She is a RACISTS. She could care less about the plight of the Black community and their high unemployment. Her mission along with the entire Teathug field is to castrate and neuter PBO from his BASE. NUFF SAID!!!

  44. President Obama basically showed the Republicans and the complicit media on the left and right for the phonies that they really are. He is interested in governing the country – they are interested in political posturing, ginning up poutrage, misreporting etc.

  45. Hope the American people realize who is on their side. The Teathug House will let this nation CAPITULATE to soothe their egos and to keep PBO from re-election. They are not budging.

  46. POTUS “If you want to be a leader, then you’ve got to lead.” -President Obama on solving the deficit problem for the American people. Take that Boehner

  47. That is downright cool. A software company in India moving to SF to create their headquarters. Gotta love it. Thanks, WiW…you always find great stuff.

  48. maritza thanks for the reminder…

Although I haven’t forgotten about it, and I have donated throughout the month, on occasion, some of us need to be reminded about things!

I will continue to add to it! 😉
