  1. This is one of the most powerful stories I have featured at my blog. I know many of us are frustrated at the slow pace of jobs and the attitude of large corporations. This model creates “employee owned” companies which have the sponsorship of large companies that agree to use their services.

How The Evergreen Cooperative Is Lifting Cleveland Residents Out Of Poverty

If anyone in Cleveland has heard of this it would be great to hear more.

  2. It’s Here Again! Today is “Money Bomb Friday.” Please prove Politico wrong, and show the WA Post how “us” small donors are not “disillusioned” and how we donate in small amounts. As you know all of the OFA links are on the left side of the page. No amount too small. Politico said “we” won’t be donating this time around. WA Post has interest because they believe “we” are doing something wrong by dividing donations into small numbers and donating to various OFA FR’s.

Also the townhall is streaming live. http://www.reelectobamabiden2012.com/

  3. There has been a massive bomb explosion in one of the government buildings in Oslo, most likely the work of Al Qaeda. Fortunately, although there are people injured, most of Oslo is on its August vacation so maybe 75% of the normal population were not in the city. If it is not the work of AQ, Norway has a violent hard far right wing that possibly could have done this.

  4. Wishing the best for the people of Oslo. I read somewhere the other day that AQ was going to start hitting targets outside the U.S.

I hope the group responsible is apprehended.

    Thanks for the update, OSG.

  5. Again today, PBHO isn’t “runnin’ late”…

    But, I am!๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. I love that story, What Is Working. I still have dreams of the caring and just segment of our populace establishing its own alternative economy providing services and goods for all needs.

  7. ummm how can Politico or anyone else still be on the dillusioned Dem meme after the 86mil hall from last quarter? What are you talking about? Recent polls don’t even meet their narrative. Or are you living off of Nov. 2010 headlines? hmmm………….

  8. No way we can allow Romney to overtake PBO and gain the Whitehouse. I can gaurantee you that Mitt Romney will be the GOP nominee in 2012. As I watch President Obama’s town hall it just makes me want to work for him and America much harder. This town hall had a definate campaign-feeling. GO PBO, GO DEMS, GO AMERICA!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Looks like Norway is getting hit with multiple AQ attacks. Besides the initial explosion, which now appears to have been a car bomb, mysterious packages have been found at the train station and at the TV2 station building, and now a report of a possible attack on a children’s camp on an island where gunshots have been heard.

  10. ‘Let Down’ Liberals Lend Me Your Ears
Will Rodgers- ‘I belong to no organized political party, I am a Democrat.’

When Ed Schultz still lived in Fargo ND and ran a little radio show few had heard of and he had never dreamt of being on TV, I was one of his biggest fans.
Ed raged against the Right and never left the Left behind. He devoted his entire Friday shows to callers who were small business owners and let them do their own free promotional spots. I loved the guy and liked to think my praise of his show in countless emails to MSNBC and CNN played a small part in his being given a cable show. I emailed him frequently and he (or his staff) occasionally responded graciously. I called in a few times and we had great talks and during the lead up to the 2008 election I once came to tears in my support of Ed and our candidate, Senator Obama.

I didn’t leave Ed, he left me.

I applaud constructive criticism, but Ed and so many in the Liberal media have broken my heart with their callous disregard for historical facts in their petulant rants against President Obama. I believe in the old axiom that a president needs a push from the people to be able to hold sway and move forward on groundbreaking legislation, but their is quite a difference in constructive criticism and self immolation.

So here are a few facts that we should all keep in mind while working with President Obama for progressive change in the USA.
    1. The Liberal hero presidents we all so admire, like JFK, LBJ and FDR all had significantly larger congressional majorities when they passed their landmark pieces of legislation than did the president when he took office. And the supposedly ‘fillibuster proof’ 60th vote that President Obama had in the Senate was embodied by Joseph Lieberman, the Senator from the Likud party who had endorsed and campaigned on stage with the president’s opponent John McCain! Lieberman was on record as having been a long time proponent of single payer health care reform, until President Obama. Lieberman did everything he could to sabotage the health care reform efforts of the president right up to the point of being kicked out of the Democratic caucus and losing his committee positions. So let’s please be real about that whole chapter.

    2. When the president took office we were coming off of 28 consecutive years of conservative economic policies emanating from the White House, from Reagan through W. [Remember, even Alan Greenspan refers to President Clinton as a ‘great Republican president’ economically speaking because of his decimating of welfare and global trade deals which had been the ultimate dream of corporate America for a century.] President Obama has inherited a nation every bit as crippled by the short sighted idiocy of carnivorous capitalism, as was our nation when FDR was elected. This isn’t supposed to be easy. The bailouts were a wise move that FDR undoubtedly would have deployed in retrospect, but sadly, by not allowing our whole system to fail as it did after the 1929 crash there was a little wiggle room left for the Right to weave the Grinch-like lie that ‘Our medicine didn’t make you sick, you simply need to take more’.

    3. And finally, is it too much to keep in mind that President Obama has already accomplished far more good than the two previous Democratic presidents combined? Jimmy Carter is a great man but was not an effective president and Bill Clinton hurt the country badly (especially the working class) with his unfettered trade deals with Asia. It should be clear by now that the Clinton economic boom was mostly a short term money rush caused by our entire manufacturing base fleeing US soil for low wage-regulation Asia. The history books will show that this was the root cause of the stock market tripling in value. And the cash explosion at the top of our economy that led to (along with financial de-regulation from Reagan-Clinton) is the genesis of our continuing housing market crisis.

Those who truly gave of themselves in the Civil Rights and workers rights struggles in the last century feel no shame in asking the president for support on the things they care about most, respectfully and affectionately and without ever even hinting at dropping their support for the most successful Liberal president since LBJ.

  11. Finally this video, I have hesitated to post it since it is narrated by Bernie Sanders. that said, it is a very effective visual of the attack on the middle class.

If you don’t mind listening to Bernies voice

    A Thousand Cuts

  12. As always, a terrific performance by PBO at today’s town hall meeting in Maryland. He never ceases to amaze me as he is always fresh as a daisy, no question ever flummoxes him, and he manages to offer interesting and in-depth responses to even the sillier questions.

  13. Here’s another reason why the PL loves themselves Bill Clinton – In September 2006 Bill Clinton met with many liberal bloggers in Harlem NY for a 2 hr roundtable discussion (gee a mere few months before Hillary would launch her 2008 campaign??). The list of attendees will blow your mind –

Jane Hamsher and Christy Hardin Smith from Firedoglake
    Atrios
    McJoan from Daily Kos
John Aravosis and Joe Sudbay from AmericaBlog
Matt Stoller and Chris Bowers (now back at Daily Kos) from MyDD
    Bill Scherer from Liberal Oasis
    Dave from SeeingtheForest
    Steve from The Carpetbagger Report
    Jessica from Feministing
    Barbara from Mahablog
Jeralyn Merritt from TalkLeft (and the TL Kid)
Attending by phone: John Amato from Crooks and Liars

    http://www.talkleft.com/story/2006/09/12/091/72051

Why do a lot of those names sound familiar, I can’t put a finger on it…

  14. Shirley Ed is not Liberal. Stop believing his LIES. He has Rethug in his BLOOD and always will. The other so called Progressive pundits are out for a bigger paycheck and noteriety. We have for too long taken these talking heads to seriously.

The American public needs to leave their trance behind and actually start doing their own homework to gain perspective as to what is going on in our country and the world at large. Obama/Biden 2012!!

  15. So I just tuned in to CNN to see if they were covering the story. Of course not. They were covering the NFL lockout. I guess it’s time to fire up my VPN tunnel and turn on BBC World.

  16. It’s beginning to sound like the attack on the children is going to be the real horror of the day. The news is that people are being told to get off the island anyway possible, and the large ambulances and the police are racing there. You can watch Sky News Live on your pc for news.

  17. PBHO’s speech *IS/WAS* wonderful, inspirin’ and informative…

    I love our Prez!

I support him 100+%, and I stand by him to help him move America forward to win the future!

    And, I’m a loyal, proud Obamacrat/Obamabot…Obot!

Let’s keep on DO SOMETHIN’ for our Prez and America!๐Ÿ˜€

    YES.WE.CAN, Again…Obama/Biden 2012!
    I’M IN…FIRED UP & GOIN’!๐Ÿ˜‰

  18. Norway has no systems set up to cope with anything like this. It is like attacking a lamb with an atomic bomb. Please help with keeping up with the news as I get glued to the TV in the other room.

  19. Govt is saying that the city centre bombs killed 2 and injured 15. But from seeing the pictures, I have a feeling those numbers will go up. Buildings are just devastated. People talking to the BBC said they felt the bombs as far as 30 miles away.

  20. No surprise there SR! During the healthcare debate he met again with some of the same people, advocating for PBO’s plan. On his left, beaming admiringly was the dreaded PBO hating NYCEVE. At that meeting, WJC said (and this months before final passage) there could be no public option, otherwise there would be no bill. She was dumbfounded, but wrote a glowing diary about the experience, gave WJC a pass on the no public option part.

10 minutes later she and the Slinkywinky KOS hate machine renewed their daily attacks on PBO the Healthcare Sellout.

She can admire WJC all she wants, and I can admire PBO all I want, but on questions of policy, not personality, at least be consistent.

On a separate note, according to The Guardian, Reid called off the weekend session of the Senate, and Boehner is getting isolated.

“Leaving Obama’s town hall, is there any chance of a deal on the table today? Not according to Republican leader and Speaker of the House John Boehner, who has held a press conference just now:

There was no agreement, publicly, privately, never an agreement, and frankly not close to an agreement. So I suggest that it’s going to be a hot weekend here in Washington DC.

    The vise is tightening.

  21. Some people are supposedly trapped in one of the buildings. If it hadn’t been a holiday….

  22. Shirley

I have been hoping to make up a list of talking points highlighting the compromises and challenges of our Dem heroes and comparing them to Obamas challenges. This post really helped with that goal.

    thanks

  23. My thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Oslo…

And, jackie 4 obama, I would like to light a candle for the people of Oslo!

    What’s that link, again?

And, osg thanks for keepin’ us updated about this!

    That’s so horrible!

    YES.WE.CAN…DO.(Much)More, Together!

  24. The President I though made a really good point that I hadn’t though of regarding gerrymandering districts during redistricting – getting rid of purple districts. In divided power states the plan usually is to shore up all incumbents, and if one side or the other had total control they usually shore up their side, and might even create a vote sink for the opposition in order to do this.

All this leads to deeper blue or ruby red districts that have no reason to compromise to get anything done, and actually have incentive not to because they’re worried about a primary challenge from their far right or left respectively.

  25. From BBC:

Hours later, reports emerged of a shooting at a Labour Party youth camp in Utoeya, an island outside the capital.

Mr Stoltenberg [he’s the PM], who had been due to visit the camp on Saturday, told TV2 the situation in Utoeya was critical.

At least 500 people were at the camp, said reports, and five people were said to have been injured.

  26. Cornell West and Tavis Smiley are on a Anit-Obama Poverty Bus Tour trying to convince low income African American families to not vote for PBO. I want to ask these TRAITORS who do they want black people to vote for? Certainly Michelle, Newt, Mitt, or Sarah is not going to have their best interest at heart. Why should Black America vote for RACISTS or sit home and not vote at all to allow the RACISTS in the Whitehouse?

Another question: Where were these two during the Bush years? Now all the sudden they have a interest to end poverty in the Black community? What a bunch of HYPOCRITES. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are working for the Koch bros and Karl Rove. SIMPLY MADDENING!! Obama/Biden 2012!!

  27. No kidding! I like the diary for calling out the “caved” diary yesterday. I ventured over there and now must take a shower.

  28. Thank you for succinctly spelling out the points and differences between past administrations and the situation this one took on.

  29. Pardom me my next comment but,I am sorry to say blacks should get together and throw rotten tomatoes, pelt water balloons or toilet paper. at the said bus tour..that is how incensed this makes me. ‘Crabis and Detest’- 2 fools trying to lead poor black folks down the wrong path.

  30. But actually scary how sim the Dem majority is. Thank God we didn’t lose that in 2010 or Obama would be an island in a sea of snakes in DC.

  31. Thanks LH for this Congressional ‘debt/deficit update

Brown (R-MA), Snowe, Collins, Kirk, McShame, and Kyl voted to not “table” the House’s radical ‘Cut, Cap & Balance’ bill…Hmmm?

You know E. Warren, if she does run for the MA senate seat, or anyone who will be runnin’ for it, s/he can use Brown’s votin’ record against him!๐Ÿ˜‰

And, since the Senate “took” this vote, Senator Reid “decided” the Senate can be off this weekend same as the House๐Ÿ˜•

  32. I posted this over at TOD and repeating it here:

Here is my suggestion. If you know the poverty tour is coming to your town, organize a protest outside of where they are going to be parking their bus. I donโ€™t care if it is a one man protest.

Also, write letters to your local newspaper and contact your local TV stations registering your disgust. That is what I plan to do.

If I hear of them coming to my town, I am going to make up a cardboard and hang it around my neck explaining front and back what these people are about.

If we do it in every city, at least the people they are coming to town to make a fool of with their disingenuous acts will get a deeper look at them.

Couple all of this with contacting the AARP. Also, we can contact Radio hosts like Tom Joyner, Steve Harvey, Michael Baisen, and a whole host of others to alert them about this disgusting bunch.

These are the guys that are taking their programs into the black communities holding programs to benefit the needy.

Tavis and Cornel are not concerned with the idea of for example, โ€œtaking a loved one to the doctor.โ€ Each year Joyner and his crew, fan out in our communities and actually help people to get screened for various diseases, etc.

Next two weeks, he and his crew will be out in the various states with their back to school program giving out school suppiies to students.

We should not let these self-aggrandizing frauds into our communities to get people to vote against their own interest solely to line their pockets.

  33. This is a very good news, Latinos will vote for PBO make no mistake , we trust him so SI SEPUEDE.

  34. TiMT is very good, but I will never click the hateful Orange place, and i di like TiMT.

  35. Thank you for bringing stories like this to us. I wish these mega-Churchs would do things like this for all the tax-free dollars they get. I know some are helping but what the communities they serve need more than anything are jobs.

  36. I’m all for that!๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ™‚

They “got their nerves” sayin’ anythin’ from their ivory towers…

Where were they before BHO “came on the scene,” and he was elected president๐Ÿ˜•

What have they done for the low-income community(ies) or any community, before and since?

Like PBHO, Oprah and others can, they need to “show me the tangibles” …

If they can’t do that, they need to STHU and go sit down…Grrr!๐Ÿ˜ก

    YES.WE.CAN…DO.(Much)More, Together!

  37. As always, africa, you have great ideas…

Despite bein’ temporarily unemployed, you’re “workin’ it”…Thanks for your activism, I hope you find a job, sooner than later!

And, WE can also tweet about what they’re tryin’ to do, and if you don’t know this, they’re on Twitter… @tavissmiley, @cornelwest!๐Ÿ˜‰

Speaking of Tom Joyner, this is via COS at Chipsticks’ TOD. I hope s/he doesn’t mind me postin’ it over here:

Tom Joyner: โ€œWeโ€™ve all expressed our opinions, vented, aired it out, and in my heart of hearts, no matter how we got to this point, I believe most of us share a common goal โ€“ to re-elect President Obama. That can only happen if we take all the time and energy weโ€™ve been using to debate, defend โ€“ and yes, digress (Tavis didnโ€™t patent that word, did he?) and move forward. Like the mamas on my staff tell their little boys when theyโ€™re distracted by whatever is on the PSP, DS or Wii screen, โ€œLetโ€™s focus.โ€

    Snipโ€”

โ€œIโ€™ll be making an announcement soon about voter registration and what weโ€™ll do on the TJMS to make sure that everybody is ready come November. In the meantime, we need to start showing the same kind of enthusiasm as we did when we were electing the president โ€ฆ.. โ€

    http://www.blackamericaweb.com/?q=blog_inner/30402/1573138/The Fly Jock

And, Joyner will be on Al Sharpton’s!๐Ÿ˜€

    YES.WE.CAN…DO.(Much)More, Together!

  38. The tow hateful evil twins are bought and owned by Walmart–the one organization that specializes in exploiting the poor, especially in minority communities. They really disgusting.

  39. Sharon Alexander thanks much for that…

    I’m lightin’ one, now… Oslo

I hope others will do the same! lol

    YES.WE.CAN…DO.(Much)More, Together!

  40. Why are cornell west and tavis smiley back in the picture all of a sudden?

  41. ummm…………I’ll just sit this one out. I’m tired of death and destruction. I will just keep Norway and the MONSTERS that committed this ATROCITY in my prayers. Obama/Biden 2012!!

  42. Yes it is!

I’m glad they will do so…

And, you will do the same! lol

    YES.WE.CAN, Again!๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ™‚

    YES.WE.CAN…DO.(Much)More, Together!

  43. ………………simple answer………….$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$………………NUFF SAID!!๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  44. Let’s focus on those who are contribiting to the re-election of President Obama. Those who find the time to focus on negative issues and trying to promote non-essential information in their books are of no interest to me. Just look at the time Tavis and Dr. West have wasted already trying to distract. Let us move on with good strageties to help President Obama get his re-election team running with urgency and leave these disruptive and angry two men in the woods where they belong. Focus on our goals, not theirs.

  45. If you like TIMT and don’t want to post at the orange place. He writes at The People’s View(TPV) which is an excellent site. There is a link on the right side under BWD’s blogroll.
