  1. My husband and I have those same looks on our face. Come on USA. Score already! LOL. Unbelievable.

  2. Home from church, time to watch the ball game. How Americana is that?

I just can’t help but laugh in thinking about how the WaPo will need to do a calorie count on their snacks. LOL

  3. I like the Obama take on food and snacks. MODERATION in all things, including moderation!!!

  4. So funny – even in the White House, kids put their soda glass on the carpeted floor!

As a grandma, that’s the second thing I noticed! The first was the lovely First Family, and aren’t we lucky to have them in the White House!

  5. I can see the kids are glued to the tv…since they both play and love the game:-)

  6. The President is hoarding all the snacks – Somebody call CNN news with this scoop as well.

  7. Pete Souza and the First Family – love the pic! Thanks BWD for posting it and go USA Women’s Soccer Team!

  8. This reminds me of the situation room the night of the bin Laden raid! (The difference, of course, being that Japan is just a friendly competitor and staunch ally!)

  9. BWD, you are just killing me with these Pictures.

    GOAL!!!!!!!!!! With a header!!!!!!

  10. Wahmbach’s goal brought tears to my eyes! What perseverance. We can do the same: Obama/Biden 2012! I also like the picture of the desk with all those books piled on it: our PBO is no slouch! Love the family; we are so blessed to have this First Family. But where’s Bo?

  11. The Obamas, the ALL American family, who are spendin’ their Sunday afternoon, “takin in” the Women’s World Cup Final between Team USA and Japan in Germany…

And, of course, they’re hopin’ Team USA wins! 😉 😀

    It’s tied 1 all!

@BarackObama: To the women of our national soccer team: Sorry I can’t be there to see you play, but I’ll be cheering you on from here. Let’s go. -BO

WOMEN’S WORLD CUP FINAL: DR. JILL BIDEN & THE U.S. DELEGATION ARRIVE IN FRANKFURT TO CHEER ON TEAM USA… http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2011/07/17/womens-world-cup-final-dr-jill-biden-us-delegation-arrive-frankfurt-cheer-team-usa

    YES.WE.CAN…DO.(Much)More, Together!

  12. Yes, in their home, The White House . . . they have the right to bare arms and the right to bare feet! 🙂 🙂 🙂

  13. Japan won. Congratulations to the winning team. But USA team played a great game and deserve kudos as well 🙂

  14. Japan WON on penalties…

Congratulations to them, it was well-fought!

They have gone through so much at home w/the tsunami and earthquake! :Virtual Hug:

But, Team USA, you did good, too! 😀

  15. The USA played its heart out. I would take nothing away from those women. Just amazing. When it comes to Japan, I had my knees shaking for a while. This is because a part of me was praying that they would do well even if they get a silver medal medal, it would lift their nation’s morale tremendously. Then last Friday, I was listening to the 6.30 newscast and, a German zoologist who has African elephants at his farm talked about a baby elephant working as an oracle–if you remember Paul the Octopus—that this baby elephant had predicted for Japan. My goodness, the hair on my back stood when it came to the last penalty. This oracle thing was on Radio Canada international–As it Happens–last Friday!

Anyway Congrants to Japan and Congrants to these amazing American women. It was a worthy final in every way.

  16. Yes, indeed. I love the practice of barefeet or light socks-wearing in my home also. I read that our First Lady had that praactice in her home in Chicago, and you will see her in the residence during the same, the interviewer stated. They are just too cute. Thanks BWD for this posting.

  17. I’m sure someone will jump on the barefeet. You can’t see the Prez or Sasha’s feet but I will bet they are shoeless too. One of my brothers spent time in Hawaii and he said that removing your shoes indoors was a common practice as it showed respect, both for the house and those who lived there.

I love this pic of our WH family! Enjoy the game and go Team USA!

  18. Proud of our ladies of the USA. A big hug to all of them. Also happy for Japan. May they enjoy this moment as a sweet healing for their nation after what they have gone through.

  19. You know, maybe, that isn’t “too farfetched”…

    Treason vs Sabotage…Hmmm 😕

In law, treason is the crime that covers some of the more serious acts of betrayal of one’s sovereign or nation…

Oran’s Dictionary of the Law (1983) defines treason as “…[a]…citizen’s actions to help a foreign government overthrow, make war against, or seriously injure the [parent nation].” In many nations, it is also often considered treason to attempt or conspire to overthrow the government, even if no foreign country is aided or involved by such an endeavour…

Sabotage is a deliberate action aimed at weakening another entity through subversion, obstruction, disruption, or destruction…

THE ‘SABOTAGE’ QUESTION GOES MAINSTREAM… http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/politicalanimal/2011_06/the_sabotage_question_goes_mai030434.php

    YES.WE.CAN, Again…Obama/Biden 2012!
    I’M IN…FIRED UP & GOIN’! 😉

  20. Ugh!!!! I said this during the Gold Cup final between the US and Mexico: when you’re in the lead, park a fracking bus in front of goal! Play keep-away, don’t try to score another goal. Jaysus.

  21. “seriously injure the parent nation” sound right to me. I have been referring to them as traitors for weeks. When I put a human face on the damage i.e seniors, homeless, unemployed, the sick, the lost homes how can that not be treason especially in the name of millionaires.
I think the sooner we can all agree on a term like traitor it will eventually rise to the level of MSM. Noone could have convince many Americans that there was a political party so addicted to power that they would resort to such damage. When linked with the debt crisis, the unfilled positions, the vitriol, the endless hearings, the attacks on climate, etc. What else can it be called.!

  22. WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama intends to nominate former Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray to a new consumer financial protection bureau that was a central feature of a law that overhauled banking regulations.

White House and administration sources say Obama plans to announce the nomination Monday at the White House.

In choosing Cordray, Obama bypassed Elizabeth Warren, a favorite of consumer groups, who has been assembling the agency as a special adviser to the White House and to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.

Cordray would have to be confirmed by the Senate. Warren, who is considered the architect of the consumer bureau, faced opposition in the Senate and would have had a difficult time wining confirmation.

Cordray now serves as director of enforcement for the agency.

    Cue the pouting.

  23. Fox News Flash…US Woman’s Soccer Team Loss is Obama’s Fault. The President’s lack of personal support of the Women’s soccer team by refusing to attend the final game in Germany so demoralized the players that they gave up playing today. If Ronald Reagan were alive, he would have been at the game, and even declare, “Ladies, tear down that Japanese soccer wall!” That statement alone would have settled the debt crisis, cleaned up the tsunami, and put Americans to work! Bonzo the monkey would have done cartwheels as well!

The sad thing is Fox News and the Republican media machine makes shit like this up every day!

  24. Exactly. Just like our president’s temperament — not too low, not too high.

Everything done in moderation can be healthy for the mind, body and soul.

  25. Oh, and Malia is going to spill her drink on the floor and ruin the people’s carpet. Quick, call CNN, Fox and MSNBC.

  26. Tweet This…..

Here’s the facts, Jack: The Republicans have taken America hostage. The GOP is holding a bullet to Americans’ heads and issuing ransom demands. And the mainstream media? They ignore the gun, the bullet, the perpetrator while hyping criticism and analysis of the hostage victim’s family haggling over the ransom demand.

It’s time for the vast majority of middle class Americans who will be devastated by a default to call in SWAT.

The media should call this what it is: the clearest decision about the future of the country we’ve had in some time–and a complete waste of time and energy better spent on finding a way out of our economic morass.

They can also report that we can just vote to raise the debt ceiling, which is what we’ve always done in the past. That’s old dreary news, to be sure, but it remains an important unalterable fact. Every reputable economist states this would make ultimate good sense in a faltering economy. Every reputable economist states that our most immediate need–as opposed to the long-term need for deficit reduction–is to find some way to goose the economy.

  27. Actually that is a bad strategy. It happens so often that you get creamed when you play defensive. Anyhow, it was an exciting game, especially the last five minutes.

  28. Love our FIRST FAMILY and congrats to the US Womens Soccer team for their courage. OT but relevent for current events: While we suppoters keep being surprised at the OUTRAGES antics of the enemy I continue to be un amazed. We are fighting a CULTURAL war on so many levels everyone. Expect all this disinformation, deceit, distration, and hate filled rhetoric only to intensify as the LEADER of the FREE WORLD embarks on his re-election journey. That being said…….Yes, TOD family. We have our work cut out for us. All this HATE directed toward PBO and his followers is not surpising to the President. He anticipated this. He warned us in 2008 that we would meet great resistance and not necessarily just from the RIGTWING. After all we do live in America where just a few decades ago lynchings were still popular in our country. We will PERSEVERE and TRIUMPH over EVIL. I trully believe this.

I was out today registering new voters at major parks and Dowtown with local OFA supporters here in Columbus, Ohio. Today was a National Day of Action for Obama for America. We know what we are up against. These very same new voters and supporters are the ones the enemy will try to keep from voting in 2012. Even with all the new voting laws being passed to supress Democratic turnout we are not allowing that to stop us from doing what is right and lawful. WE WILL PREVAIL….YES WE WILL!!!! Obama/Biden 2012!!

  29. GREED…

As wesleya17 calls ’em, ‘The Greed Over People’ Party!

For now, if WE really think about it, ‘saboteur,’ maybe, easier for more than one person to “wrap their minds around” or “to digest” than ‘traitor’…

And, for starters, the Congressional DEMs, PBHO and WH have began to “expose”‘ the TeaPublican Party’s and their ilk’s radicalism to the world. This is truly who they are:

WASHINGTON SEARCHES FOR ‘PLAN B’ ON DEBT CEILING **UPDATE 2: [PRESIDENT] OBAMA’S PRESSER, GOP IN A BOX… http://blog.reidreport.com/2011/07/washington-searches-for-plan-b-on-debt-ceiling/

    @CHUCKSCHUMER PUSHES THE ‘SABOTAGE’ ENVELOPE… http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/politicalanimal/2011_06/schumer_pushes_the_sabotage_en030608.php

Of course, WE need to keep pushin’ that envelope…If you want “a message to stick,” repetition *IS* a good thing!

You can ask Frank Luntz and the TeaPublicans about that! lol

There’s ‘sabotage’, and WE won’t forget ‘traitor’. But, there’s also this:

    YES.WE.CAN…DO.(Much)More, Together!

  30. Thanks LH,

    Yeah, this definitely needs to be Tweet’d/RT’d… #mediafail, FB’d, Email’d, et al…

    YES.WE.CAN…DO.(Much)More, Together!
    YES.WE.CAN, Again…Obama/Biden 2012!
    I’M IN…FIRED UP & GOIN’! 😉

  31. If true, this can “work out” to be a good thing…

I would think of her as the “Nancy Pelosi in the Senate!”

She would stand by PBHO, and she would “have his back!” lol

    YES.WE.CAN…DO.(Much)More, Together!

  32. It will be very interesting. It will be an economy based election season, but she’ll have to spell out her support on other issues including foreign policy. If she’s willing to work for the next 16 months straight crisscrossing the state and fundraising she could have a really good shot.

She’s a populist, Brown played one during the last campaign. He’s raking in bankster money now – that will play right into Warren’s hands.

Brown is polling strong right now, but it’s a mile wide and an inch deep. If Warren can run a good campaign, than it’s at worst a toss up given it’s a Presidential year. Also Massachusetts is a blue state, so the Warren Campaign could even nationalize it – remember Brown did that first during his last campaign saying he wanted to be the vote to block the ACA and all that. Warren winning could be the difference between McConnell as Senate leader or Reid keeping it. Brown is a party line voter when it really matters – he’s trying to pretend otherwise now, but when it mattered during the 111th congress he voted just the same as Demint or Inhofe.

Is Warren a sports fan? Does she know Schilling was a Red Sock pitcher?

  33. Is soccer an amurikkkan game ? limpaugh’s next radio ‘address’.

Reg those bare feet.In Indian homes, you will be kicked out if you don’t leave the shoes, chappals etc. outside. Just common sense. Don’t drag the outside filth into my house.

  34. She’s got good blue collar cred. She is a plain talker. The Senate GOP are being insulated from the crazy right now in the media. They need to take more votes in the Senate to get him on record for some stinkers. Then, she will need a really good organization, which with OFA she would have. The Wall Street money will be a good issue for her. But fund raising could be tricky. Its going to be tough. The crazy is thick, and the internets are full of all kinds of imposters, and the media spin is going to be VERY counterproductive to our efforts. I don’t even trust Maddow any more. Anyone getting a corporate media check, I don’t trust. I have been reading about the VASTNESS of the Koch election apparatus and let me tell you, it is freaking scary…..Koch bots are EVERYWHERE.

  35. I stopped being lazy and answered my own question. The answer is no. She has been in academia virtually all of her life.

Starting a political career with a high profile Senate run — it’s an open question.

Does she have the skills to be a candidate? In modern politics, unfortunately, being a good politician trumps substance. Whether we like it or not, Michelle Bachmann’s political skills are phenomenal — watch her reinvent herself before our very eyes. Plus, the rigors of it, the microscope you’re under, where every word is judged every day — it’s a whole different skill set.

We love Elizabeth Warren. We know that. I know in my heart (and gee, through her own words) that she didn’t want to subject herself or the President to a confirmation hearing on her behalf. I frankly think any nominee is DOA with this Republican Congress. Why do I think that? They have said so, unless the agency is gutted.

DWS — fold this into your narrative: Republicans are actively working against the kind of rules that would have avoided the financial meltdown. Republicans must love meltdown, right?

Anyway, I would support Elizabeth Warren in anything she wanted to do. But I think her abilities as a candidate are an open question.

  36. ….”At least three people have so far been paid settlement money by News of the World in return for dropping their civil claims and keeping quiet about the matter.

Gordon Taylor – the head of Britain’s Professional Footballer’s Association – was the first we know of to have accepted hush money.

A cheque for 700,000 pounds was signed by James Murdoch – the media baron’s second son who was recently moved to New York and anointed as Mr Murdoch senior’s successor at News Corporation.

Apparently James Murdoch didn’t know why his company was forking out such an enormous sum of money to someone whose name didn’t ever appear in The News of the World.

The newspaper had only ever threatened to publish stories about Mr Taylor. The information which was to be the subject of those stories could only ever have been acquired through illegal means”….More

  37. I have to go visit Media Matters. What I have noticed here is that nobody appears to be advertising anymore on Fox News in the UK or Ireland; all we are getting is FN Extras. I am wondering if the same is true in the US?

  38. Ugh! Jane Hamsher on c-span this morning! I did NOT need my husband asking me why Obama’s doing all these awful things, how he’s going to slash Medicare. After all, she’s from the left, isn’t she?

I heard 30 seconds at the end of her segment and she was lying. That Obama said he’d accept the Simpson/Bowles recommendations on slashing Medicare but NOT the cuts to the DoD.

    The lying bitch!

  39. Just listening to Rupert spouting his big fat lies – I hope he is brought down and FOX along with him!!
