“If ever there was a time to stand behind the captain – this is it”

Hi guys,

Usually, I will not give Huff-Crap any click to save my life, but this piece by Deepak Chopra is a must read. Not for us – we know all that – but for anyone in our close circle who simply can’t understand how grave and deep and scary is the possibility of the lunatics taking over – and that standing by Presidentt Obama is the ONLY option.

One of the virtues of being on the liberal side of politics is that total obedience isn’t required. There are no hidden agendas. Ideology doesn’t lead to unreason. In a political climate where it feels as if the inmates are running the asylum — as in the current Republican threat to default on America’s debt — the prevailing sanity of President Obama is something that others and I have taken for granted.

We cannot afford that luxury any more, I’m afraid.

For many reasons, this is the moment when loyalty is going to count the most. That’s a hard sentence to write. Liberal politics is based on a non-regimented, all-inclusive approach to democracy. Freedom of thought is paramount. But certain harsh realities must be faced.

// snip

It was such a relief to return to humane, non-ideological governance when President Obama won in 2008 that we underestimated the debasing effect that two generations of right-wing indoctrination has had. Each increment of this debasement seemed fairly tolerable, even bizarrely quixotic. A pledge never to raise taxes until the end of time? Blatant favoritism toward Christian groups, however intolerant their dogmas? Stuffing the foreign service with neo-cons, the Justice Department with graduates of Jerry Falwell’s law school? These aberrations go unnoticed outside Washington, perhaps, but bit-by-bit the damage has been corrosive.

When Lincoln was assassinated, an anguished Walt Whitman wrote “O Captain! My Captain!” whose theme was that the ship of state had reached a great victory — the end of the Civil War — just as the captain lay dead on the deck. We all know that this victory was unfulfilled, followed by a reactionary period that destined America to a hundred more years of virulent racism. Without being melodramatic, I think the work of undoing decades of reactionary policies has barely begun.

Which is to say that all of us who have taken advantage of our liberal heritage to question and criticize President Obama need to step back and consider the radical nature of the opposition, from the Supreme Court down to the local precinct. The current debt ceiling crisis is proof that sensible, sane responses are not going to be automatic anymore. Paul Krugman calls the current Republican tactic outright extortion. The leaders of the Republican Party are so terrified of losing their seats in Congress that they have collapsed in the face of the ultra right and its worst ideologues.

If you suppose that the average citizen remembers that the right wing are the very ones who got us into this forlorn tangle of wars abroad, financial collapse, out-of-control spending, and massive bonuses for the rich, you have not felt the power that fear exerts. Since 9/11, playing upon fear has been wildly successful for the right wing — it re-elected a catastrophic president — and now outrage has been added to the mix thanks to the romping recklessness of Wall Street, which paid not the slightest penalty for bringing on the recession.

If ever there was a time to stand behind the captain, this is it. Not because pluralism and free expression are wrong. They aren’t and never will be. But like Churchill calling upon a coalition cabinet in the depth of the war years, it’s paramount that we see the greater danger for what it is. Attention was drawn to the cover of a recent issue of the Economist, which showed a tall President Obama towering over a squabbling handful of pygmy Republican rivals for the presidency. The headline read, “He Could Still Lose.” We need to remember that if that were to happen, it wouldn’t be because President Obama made too many mistakes or failed to pass a sufficiently liberal agenda. The reason would be that all of us forgot the 30-year reign of reactionary administrations (minus the Clinton years) and the power of debased politics to keep coming back, again and again.

Cliff Schecter:

Yes, I’ll dare call it treason

Once upon a time, in a land that now seems to have been populated by tooth fairies and unicorns, there was a political party that had a set of core beliefs to which they actually adhered.

Among them was that actually balancing the budget, as opposed to just talking about it, was sacrosanct. Slow change, while necessary, had to be balanced against the traditions of the United States, ones that had mostly served us well over two centuries.

Foreign military adventures should be limited to our national security interests. And one of the single most important components of diplomacy was protecting the economic interests not only of an elite few, but of the great many Americans who toiled in our factories and fields.

This party was known as the Republican Party, and while one might have disagreed with them on their policy prescriptions to cure any particular US ill, one could at least see some logic in their beliefs and understand that they – with some obvious exceptions from time to time (ahem, Joseph McCarthy, ahem) – were doing what they thought was right for the United States of America.

Today, this once respectable organization has turned into nothing so much as a collective id the size of a David Vitter Pampers shopping spree. When facing changes to this nation that make them uncomfortable, they choose national hate. When facing ideological worship versus the greatness of the US, the former always wins the day. When facing a choice of what is good for the US or their personal bank accounts, they inevitably go with the latter.

Every. Single. Time.

In simple terms: We, the people of the United States, are the maid. The GOP is Arnold Schwarzenegger. Any questions?

  1. These are very thoughtful articles – thanks for always giving us something to ponder in an environment that encourages respectful discussion. You are truly a gem, BWD.

  2. Good Morning, Everyone! Thanks for the tip, BWD. I was privileged to meet Deepak last month when he visited the Twin Cities.

  3. Cut cap and balance and the house tea baggers are adding the ryan plan again! Lol! Lmao! These guys are foolish! Now, they are saying that this new proposal garners 80% of support from the American people and it is either our way or the highway! Lol! Lmao!

  4. Just checked out the discussion on the Sunday news shows. Only one legitimately liberal voice on any of them (Mayor Morial of New Orleans on Meet the Press). It’s obvious that the MSM is implacably opposed to any voices that are not corporate approved. And they couldn’t give a hoot about the people of the United States. They were disgusting conversations to behold.

Why is this? I believe that they are so afraid of the frighteningly bad economic times that would result from a default. They are afraid that people would start to wake up and we’d see some SERIOUS class warfare. Therefore, they don’t feel they can afford any dissenting views and that they must broadcast all conservative viewpoints.

Mind you, I’m not in favor of class warfare. I’m in favor of the approach of shared sacrifice that President Obama has been talking about, but we should be very aware of how the big corporations are gaming the debate. The only good news is that so few people watch these shows that they won’t have any significant impact on public opinion.

  5. Wise words and sane advice from Deepak Chopra. What is sad is that he needs to make these points because everything he wrote is so obvious——–to all but those with blinders on, determinedly wandering in circles in their own little private woods.

  6. The moral of the story: don’t watch these shows. Even if the adminstration has a representative on them, watching these shows breeds pessimism and erodes your spirit.

  7. I guess I just don’t prescribe to this argument. We can’t just ignore what’s being said against us. We have to know, no matter how painful, or we don’t know how to fight them.

  8. Very nice article, yours and D.C.’s. Fear not……:) Having been very involved in the campaign of 2008 and how very hard we all worked, I recently read of how there are actors, etc. or those who are truley able to afford to donate to our new campaign and of course those who could barely afford it. This time it is more than hope that we can believe in. It is Faith in what we know can happen. All of us did not return with that same fire but others have replaced them, stronger and more determined. I believe that the common people have become much more involved in understanding what decisions are being made and how and when they affect all of us. The environment President Obama’s prescence at the helm of American Leadership has created will not change even if he is not there. (but we know he will be) What we consider the bad and the good. It is all good because it is what will make us who we are. As it has from which we have come. Thank you President Obama and family. And thank you blackwater for your unwavering support of his leadership.

  9. Obviously we must keep informed but surely the same way a potential viewer can use their computer to comment on sites, one can use same computer to watch clips of these programs thus not giving corporate tv media the viewership they crave. Everyone that watches these shows are aiding and abetting the false narratives. Doing exactly what they want which is lining the pockets of the GOP corporations, oil companies, fat cats, etc.

  10. I really concurred with the viewpoints in these articles. Thank you so much for bringing them to this site this morning, BWD. Have I told you lately what a brilliant job you are doing pulling us together and helping keep us informed.? Also thanks to all those who bring similarly important information here. You’re keeping your eyes on things and then sharing is such a great contribution. Wish I could give you all a high five or better yet a hug of appreciation.

  11. Chpra is wrong on only one point. He states that the Republicans have used fear ever since 9/11. They have used fear (Willie Horton anyone?) for the last 40 years.

  12. I got an idea: let’s fire all the communications staff in the WH and just not talk to the press at all!
That way, we will not have to worry about what is being said.

  13. I don’t see the point in watching them, especially when they have the same paid-for hacks posing as “pundits” who ALWAYS love throwing softballs towards Republicans, and ALWAYS love beating up and bruising Democrats.

And they ALWAYS have the same “guests:” Bachmann, McCain, Romney, Ron Paul, maybe the DNC chair… but the guests are almost always exclusively Republicans, with the “moderator” skewing towards the Republicans and rehashing Republican talking points. Hence why I refuse to give these shows the time of day.

  14. No, we shouldn’t ignore them, but at the same time we can’t go crazy every Sunday. They will never change. They are Republicans tools and thr only way to fight them is on the ground. Spreading the truth, one by one.

  15. That’s what I do because I don’t want to be logged as one of their viewers. I get that.

But there are some people who advocate not listening at all — we have to know what they’re saying and doing.

  16. Good Sunday morning everyone. Thank you for these insightful pieces this morning…as always, such thought provoking reads. For those that didn’t see the link I posted yesterday, I think that this is a good as place as any to repost. THIS is what’s going on behind the scenes that no one sees. This very cabal of horrors are the one’s responsible for all the anti immigrant (SB1070 ring a bell?) anti woman, anti worker, anti public,etc..laws that states are enacting. This is what is happening in state govts and on the national level as well. We need to get some searing light on this organization, we need to write, we need to expose those that would hijack our very democratic ideals and we need to do it NOW! Spread this far and holler loud. Everyone needs to be engaged with their heads in the game. The stakes are just too high. Please pass this info around…it is sure to open some eyes,http://alecexposed.org/wiki/ALEC_Exposed Just to let you know the scope of this…I will post the names of some of these members in another post. But just to give you a taste of the rot…names like Newt,Herman Cain,Eric Cantor,John Boehner,Koch Bros….and over 2,000 legislators across the country. It’s terrifying. Truly. But, they were hoping this would all play out in secret…and now WE know.It can’t be secret any longer. This is local as well as national…no state is immune form these tentacles. This very organization was behind the awful collective bargaining laws (with WI singled out here as a shining star!) anti abortion/reproductive rights, privatization, the whole ugly ball of wax. Read this please, pass it along by every means necessary…call your representatives and demand answers..I think our very democracy is under siege like we never thought possible, It;s urgent to act…and if you think it can’t happen…well, it already has. It will only get worse unless we all do what we do so well….engage and spread the word and turn up the heat. Will post the names of some members in the next post…..read the. It is enlightening, to say the least. May even begin to make the puzzle pieces begin to fit.

  17. Today is a new day to recommit to stand firm behind our President and our country. Don’t let the traitor take us down the path of destruction at the hands of the republicans. Just look at what they are doing at the state level.

  18. Thank you for calling attention to these articles, BWD. I shared them both on Facebook because we need “meaty” information with which to make our decisions. By “sharing” this type of information, I have influenced many of my friends who, at best, ignored politics, and, at worst, sold their souls to the GOP/Tea Party. Now I am seeing them at least begin to question, or ask me about things like “OMG, we won’t get our Social Security checks?”
Articles like these provide teaching moments. I even got three people to register to vote!

  19. NOW hacked into JUDE LAW’S phone when he was here in America..!!!! Can we PLEASE take these rat’s out!? WTH?

  20. The majority of americans are tuned out of all these public debates precisely because it has become so ludicrous. We are seeing an era dawn where people look beyond government to solve problems. Yet we may also see the day when talk of secession goes from ranting to real. 25% of the population thinks W was a great president. That’s not just a different perspective that’s a different planet.

  21. Thanks for this piece and this site which gives us information, community, and inspiration to keep fighting to not only reelect PBO and a democratic House and Senate but also to be part of a movement to turn this great ship toward a more just, prosperous, and sustainable future. As PBO has always said it will take millions of voices calling for change, persevering, talking to people, donating, registering, phone banking, LTE, using all social media, and, in general, rolling up our sleeves to do the hard work of change. We are still at the crossroads as Springstein said in 2008. Fired up and ready to go! Yes We Can Again!

  22. Yesterday, it was 90 degrees and 89% humidity in St. Paul, MN. I went to fulfill my commitment to work for the Obama 2012 campaign by asking passers-by if they were Obama supporters: wanted to sign up or if they needed to update their voter registration.

I find it very difficult to reach out to strangers and especially when the turn down possibility is pretty strong. I struggled at first letting many people walk by without me saying a word. Finally I got up the nerve to engage. I told myself that I was only one of many thousands who were doing the same thing across the country at the same time. If that were true we signed up 10,000 supporters new to the campaign rosters yesterday during my shift. My contribution was 2 citizen voters which by itself seems really insignificant. But it is 2 that weren’t signed up before. In addition, I interacted positively with 100+ people by just being there and asking their support. Some refused eye contact: some were vigorously opposed: others just smiled: Some smiled and said ..”not today..”: others stopped and talked because they were already signed up and my 2 signees were excited to get involved.

Encourage every one to get involved. It is not easy work but it is made easier if we know others are doing their part. Thanks for listening.

  23. Mornin’ All,

    Enlightenin’ and informative reads…

As WE have been doin’ by pushin’ back against the TeaPublicans and their ilk’s obstructionism and radical agenda, WE will continue to “fight the good fight!”

Never waverin’, from the task at hand, to help PBHO move America forward to win the future, coupled w/restorin’ America’s “rightful place” in the world, for future generations!

    Off topic:

@BarackObama: To the women of our national soccer team: Sorry I can’t be there to see you play, but I’ll be cheering you on from here. Let’s go. -BO

  24. Great job, Phil! It’s hard work, to be sure…but nothing great is ever easy:) Great that you got out of your comfort zone in talking to strangers…you found out something good about yourself, while helping the President’s re election….in the HEAT! Excellent job, and keep up the good work.

  25. Morning, snoopy! Do you know why the President can’t be there? Because he has to stay and babysit for the loony kids in congress! Please read the post I put up about ALEC…and spread that bad boy…I know I can count on you, all FIRED UP and READY TO GO!!! Hugs, and a good Sunday morning:)

  26. Thank you Phil for sharing your experience – and congratulations! 2 people is NOT insignificant. These are two people who could potentially influence scores of others (their friends, families, coworkers, acquaintances, etc). And yes, it can feel daunting approaching people this far out when they may or may not be attuned to the election 18 months away. But I suspect that as the election draws near, more and more people will be engaged and our task of signing people up might become less of a challenge. Thanks again and keep up the good work!!

  27. Thank you Phil for your contribution!!! It will take all of us doing what we can do no matter how small or large. It all counts!!!!

  28. Hiya df,

    You know, that’s a shame…

Will do, you got that right! 😉

    Same to you, too!

By the way, did you get a chance to read this:

@karoli: Here’s my intro post about #ALEC Exposed http://bit.ly/nLGdVn Pls RT, spread the word. I will be writing more as i read docs.

    YES.WE.CAN, Again…Obama/Biden 2012!
    I’M IN…FIRED UP & GOIN’! 😉

  29. I heartily commend you. I am very bad at that kind of engagement and I don’t think I’m an asset. I’m afraid to do it, afraid of confrontation and that fear can be counter-productive. I’m better if I can write a letter or something. Repost important information.

You’ve inspired me, however, to at least try. I’m here in Chicago so I have easy access to the campaign. You’re an inspiration.

  30. Wow……

So if you don’t agree with her racist, progressive-destroying rants then she’ll ruin your career.

Okay, Rachel and Ed, I dare you to lead with THIS story. I dare you to see what the PL is doing in the name of progressives.

  31. Thanks BWD: A great article from Deepak i like him I always have. So it’s ti,e for those followers of JH_ GG- and AG to weake up and think to the left you have been taking by those that do not give a SHIT about you their only want your money and make crazy so JH_ GG- and AH are living off of you, so please come and join us.

  32. Good JOB! You know we’re all behind you – and anyone else who steps out of their comfort zone – to get this important work started early.

  33. Faith if we stay cool, calm and collected we will be stronger. do not get upset get stronger
    and let’s use our minds.

  34. it’s ignorance, ignorance ignorance and stupidity the GOP is very dangerous.

  35. Okay. I usually leave gos open to post some pro-Obama perspective.

But I closed it out today. The virulence is beyond anything I’ve ever seen. I think because maybe they know the President is winning and they are advocating for his loss?

I need to ask — how many of these people do you think there are? How much damage can they do?

  36. Say hello to the CFPB Head – Former Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray

Seems like a pretty damn good choice, and one that will be much harder to obstruct given Cordray has the executive experience running the Attorney Generals office. Not saying they won’t try but it will be harder. They’re currently trying to re-write the law that was already passed before it was even enacted, I don’t know how successful that will be. I’m hoping that once the debt ceiling is raised that the White House will be a little more forceful in dealing with all the obstruction coming from the GOP.

  37. snoop…no I hadn’t read that, but thank you! I just sent CREW the tip on their tip line and hope that they pick this up and investigate….that would make me VERY HAPPY!!!! Many thanks.

  38. I agree. Great choice. Wonder how hard it will be for him to get confirmed though…the R’s want NO ONE in that job!

  39. Have you tried phone banking? If you have a script it really is easy. Start by calling people you know. Then move up to calling from a Dem call list. Then you can hit the big time, and will be ready to call undecided voters. You know the issues and you would be great. That is how I got comfortable on the phone, step by step. Once you try and feel good about it, you will keep going because you are so highly motivated. Please try. Its so worth it.

  40. Thanks Phil. My foray into the Georgia heat and humidity resulted in 100+ person-to-person contacts as well. My small team of three adults and one twelve-year-old got 10 I’m In cards turned in, 11 new voters registered, 4 voters who needed verification that they were still registered, several who took the forms home because they didn’t have their Georgia picture ID with them, two ex-felons registered–and several who promised to register as soon as they are “off paper”(not on parole or probation), and many words of thanks and encouragement.

There were at least 40 other OFA events in metro Atlanta yesterday and Friday. Most, I’m sure, were more organized and well-attended than mine. But no-one could have felt more satisfied and gratified than me at the end of the day. I can’t wait to get back out there. I have three more events in mind over the next two weeks: Registering the homeless at a feeding program I help out with and setting up a VR/”I’m In” table in front of my sister-in-law’s medical practice, and another at the large Mosque near my home.

  41. I just want to say that Elizabeth Warren is a treasure and the best advocate the American people could have. The launch of the CFPB this Thursday, July 21, 2011 will be a triumph for anyone trying to get a loan or a credit card.

I love their motto “KNOW BEFORE YOU OWE” . Just imagine the Republican Party has a problem with this. They don’t think consumers should have language that is clear and understandable. All you can do is shake your head in disgust.

I wish Attorney General Richard Cordray all the best. I guess the GOP is busy trying to find something wrong with him. The fact that he is not Elizabeth Warren probably won’t be enough.

  42. Actually I would say Republicans were Arnold S. and Wall Street was the maid. Americans are Maria because they have been kept in the dark for many years about who their partner really was. Its a fair question to ask if Maria (we) knew all along and chose to deny it until Arnold (Repubs) sat us down and told us the truth. The real Maria eventually filed for divorce, but I’m afraid this country is going to keep taking the Republicans back no matter how much they show their true faces.

  43. I’m not getting upset! I’ve gotten upset in the past and that’s bad enough! I’m not the one who started the thread.

All I said was I think we should stay informed so we can fight as effectively as possible.

  44. I’m not much good at that either. It’s the same dynamic (even with a script). I don’t think well on my feet in those situations. Although I did phonebank for Obama and for Gore lo those many moons ago.

  45. they are too caught up in the whole “keep his feet to the fire” nonsense. Those people who need to read Deepak’s article will only take away one message – ‘Shut up and be quiet’. Anytime you bring up teamwork, or suggest fair criticism of the president, all they hear is ‘ shut up and be quiet’. Never mind that all the noise they are making is ineffective.

  46. I posted the link at TPV. I hadn’t seen it there. It might have already been covered but it’s too important to ignore.

  47. Repubs have said that they will block ANY nominee unless the agency is weakened and gutted.

But again — Obama puts forth a reasonable candidate and lets the Repubs look like the obstructionists they are. Unfortunately, appts to agencies like this fall way down on most Americans’ radar, although these agencies are vitally important to their lives.

  48. I am not always perfectly comfortable with Chopra’s persona, but I admit to enjoying his books and finding them quite effective as blueprints for the way to live one’s life, though I expect most people would find them quite extreme.

  49. A song that descibe Obama

    Well I won’t back down
    No I won’t back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
    But I won’t back down
No I’ll stand my ground, won’t be turned around
And I’ll keep this world from draggin me down
    gonna stand my ground
    … and I won’t back down
    (I won’t back down…)
Hey baby, there ain’t no easy way out
    (and I won’t back down…)
hey I will stand my ground
    and I won’t back down
Well I know what’s right, I got just one life
in a world that keeps on pushin me around
    but I’ll stand my ground
    …and I won’t back down

    (I won’t back down.tom petty)

  50. For the metaphor-challenged people purportedly opposed to torture, they certainly overuse the lame phrase of “keeping feet to the fire.” I would be pleased if I never again heard this or “hippie-punching” (even sillier, most of these people don’t even have a clue as to what the hippie movement was about), or “throwing under the bus” or “catfood commission”.

  51. Faith, I feel the way you do, mainly because I don’t like the feelings that arise in me when confronted with the rage of others. I admire you for planning to attempt to do something that frightens you, but I must admit, I will continue to write, donate, and do occasional menial jobs for the campaign when I have time rather than wade directly into the fray.

  52. Ok, but, it was my pleasure!

C.R.E.W., I trust will look into it!

    They’re “good!”

And, I know, others and I would feel the same way as you….VERY “F” HAPPY! lol

    And, again, my pleasure! 😉

  53. She can’t ruin anything. No one outside of her jerk circle pays any attention to her. She has the persuasive influence of stinkweed. Let’s forget this silly little person and concentrate on positive changes that can be made, including re-electing the President and more Democrats into Congress.

  54. It is, isn’t it! 😉

  55. CFBP Director is a higher profile gig and the GOP obstruction could be used to further paint them as in the pockets of Wall St. It was legislation agreed to and not even enacted yet to see if it works or not. I think there is potential for a fight for the confirmation and others once the debt ceiling deal is struck that will likely push next years one back until after the 2012 election. President Obama and the Senate will have nothing else to do given the GOP House is doing nothing except passing red meat bills that go nowhere.

Ideally I’d LOVE to see Sen. Reid cancel the August recess until the backlog of nominees are each afforded a straight up or down floor vote. If the GOP want to use procedures to block recess even when they go home for the month, than don’t let them go home.

  56. You’re very welcome…

But, no, I want to thank you for what you have done, so far, towards gettin’ PBHO re-elected and in the process, you’re gettin’ him a Congress, which will work w/him, to help him continue movin’ his “forward-thinkin'” American agenda to win the future…

And, you keep doin’ what you’re doin’!

WE need more like you! 😉

You can BELIEVE, every little bit helps the cause!

    YES.WE.CAN, Again…Obama/Biden 2012!

  57. I took both your links and sent it around on Twitter. I will do it over and over again. Thanks for posting them. These people are evil. It does not surprise me that Jan Brewer and Russell Pearce are on the list. I do, however, count a handful of democrats. They should be exposed now if they are still in Congress.

  58. abdulazeez1, you’re a “wonder to behold” for all your hard work towards the Re-Election of Obama/Biden 2012…

Keep on “fightin’ the good fight,” in the end, WE will “come out” the winner!

And, one voter at a time, WE SHALL OVERCOME! lol

    YES.WE.CAN, Again…Obama/Biden 2012!

  59. There will definitely be a fight. GOP has already said they will filibuster any nominee unless the agency is gutted.

So it’s a standoff. There will not be a head to this agency.

And the loony left is cheering because they’re withholding money from Obama. Great patriots, all.

  60. I missed complimenting you on this great idea: cancelling the August recess and go through an up or down vote on all appointees.

At least make it a story. Start getting the message out that the Republicans refuse to let the government function.

  61. taiping1 thanks for this…

  62. What they have been saying and what they have been doing is the same old shite ad nauseum. Nothing new to learn there. I am with not giving them any eyeballs from the sane, which is mostly the left.

I hope ruipie’s empire collapse would induce a rethink from msm on how they report.

  63. Yes it is!

And, no, WE won’t let that happen….

Because WE cannot let “the devil,” the TeaPublicans and their ilk, win!

And, kasai, you’re “good and fast!”

    Thanks! 😉

  66. I just scanned a few of wrecklist diaries there. Most were supportive of PBO or taking down rupie. I miss anything ?

Of course, dkos is not the end all of prog blogs. Due to their general nastiness, better sites like bwd’s, deaniac’s and chipsticks’ have come about.

  67. bwd, I hope you tweeted these two great pieces. My crappy connection doesn’t let me to do this.

All Obots should take to tweeting. It’s a great medium for spreading the message.

  68. Yes she is…

And, although she may not be the director for CFPB, she’ll, probably, still be there in an advisory/consultant capacity to PBHO and the agency!

    Cordray will be just fine!

And, the majority of the TeaPublicans *ARE* a lost cause!

But, of course, PBHO isn’t “given up on them!”

    Right? 😉

  69. Breaking.

The Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson has announced his resignation following the phone hacking scandal.

Britain’s most senior police officer said he had no knowledge of the extent of the practice and his integrity was “completely intact”.

This is some serious shite happening in UK. murdock is gonna be in the docks. Labor and Libdems have to expose cameron’s cover-up for his buddies.

  70. That friggin’ Obama has covered all the bases, I tell ya. I got zlich so far. An evil genius, that guy.

But not to worry. Tomorrow, off to South Africa since I heard that someone there has his original BC. I also heard trumpster gonna be there.

  71. You hit a good pocket. The comments are really awful (and I only wade a little into comments anyway).

  72. Yeah,I know what you mean. Now a days, I rarely engage in pie-fights with the ‘progs’ there. Just a wreck & tip for the good diarists and may be leave a post saying kudos to the diarist at the end.

  73. Those fundraising numbers shook her up bad. Hamsher’s never ending chatter about the President losing his base was decimated and it set in motion her trip to irrelevancy.

  74. amk thanks for that update…

As it should be, they’re, all, “goin’ down,” one by one!

    Hell yeah they are…Grrr! 😡

Since Jan ’09, Murdoch/Ailes through Fox “News,” which is the communications/PR/progaganda arm of the TeaPublican Party, has disrespected PBHO and the Office of the U.S. Presidency, 24/7, 365 days a year, Fox “News” *IS* next! 😀

  77. Umm, very Interesting, Lord have Mercy on your people. Seem like satan Is attacking people who are not rich and wealthy.

  78. Deepak Chopra – amen, amen & amen!!!!

I think this was the most important statement by someone who is widely respected in a long while. I sent it to my chain and asked them to forward on.

  79. Thanks a bunch for the Chopra piece. I was having an argument with a friend about how progressives have to stand behind this president, which got her in a tizzy because of the long-standing progressive values Chopra so eloquently explains. Now if I had had this clear thinking to help me maybe I would have managed to explain things to my friend. Thanks.

  80. Frightens me.. worries me. I think as a loyal Democrat I have been in a bit of denial that the other side is so blatant in their push to turn our country into a theocracy or a two caste system, or both… that it would be rejected easily..
But they could win.. one misstep and they can do it. I do not want this to happen. My two little grandsons , who personify the strength our country gets from the blend of several cultures and and a mix of strong foundations ( American, Jewish, Chinese, Italian) need to have that same hope and support from a government and a people who welcome honest , lawful contributions of everyone.
