  1. The DNC event will not be on Whitehouselive. I just looked and nothing is scheduled. I went looking for the video from the above event and is isn’t up yet.

  2. I guess, if people would post this on twitter for me, I would be much obliged!

Thanks for the kind words bwd!

  3. O/T SR– a question from the previous thread you may know the answer to:

I couldn’t stomach the “debate’ last night. Maybe you know this: did Romney endorse the Ryan plan? Was the Ryan plan used as a litmus test question? If Romney supported it, I’d be thrilled. PBO will hang that very very heavy stone around his neck…

  4. Hi! again I am not worried about the Latino comunity I know for a fact they will support Obama
the comunity trust him , and no president will win without the latino VOTE.

  5. I didn’t watch intently, it was on in the background for the most part, but other than Newt Gingrich asked about his remarks about it and him tapdancing I don’t recall much made about it. As far as I can tell Romney is trying to have it both ways saying “He’s on the same page as the Ryan Budget” but is smart enough not to endorse it completely. Romney is playing it smart as a front runner speaking in generalities and saying a lot of nothing. Unless somebody starts attacking him to pin him down on specifics he’s going to cruise to the primary win.

  6. This poll is great news. We just need to make sure that OFA turns out the Latino vote in 2012.

  7. “Certain to vote for Obama but could change mind”?

If I’m certain about something (like voting for President Obama :-)), I’ve pretty much ruled out changing my mind. Could two categories have gotten conflated?

  8. Given all the roadblocks the GOP is putting up for voters and voter registration GOTV volunteers will have to double their efforts.

  9. FIRED UP…!!

    READY TO GO..!!!😀

  10. Basically saying they’re solid votes but don’t want to be taken for granted just the same.

  11. I would imagine attacks will come, unless Koch Inc. had a heart to heart with Bachman, et al. and said let’s unify…but Romney is so smarmy that the urge to attack will be too tough to resist. Regardless, all PBO is do what Colbert did the other night regarding Romney and Bain Capital to really undercut Mr. Business. You check out the Colbert bit from last Thursady. Devastating.

  12. Obama named Katherine Archuleta as political director or OFA. Archuleta was most recently the Chief of Staff for Sec. of Labor Hilda Solis and is well known in Colorado and in the Latino community.

Here’s her bio from the Department of Labor website –
Katherine Archuleta is Chief of Staff to Secretary Hilda L. Solis.

Before coming to the Department of Labor, Katherine had accumulated nearly 18 years of government experience. She was an aide to Denver Mayor Federico Pea and then chief of staff in 1996 and 1997 during his tenure as Secretary of Transportation. She served as a senior policy adviser in 1997 when Pea was Secretary of Energy.

Prior to returning to Washington, D.C. to serve as Chief of Staff to Secretary Solis, Katherine was senior advisor to Mayor John Hickenlooper, starting in 2005. She was the City of Denvers lead planner for the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

In addition, Katherine has served as Executive Director of the National Hispanic Cultural Center Foundation. She co-founded both Semilla Group, a women-owned consulting group focused on community development, and the Center for Regional and Neighborhood Action, a nonprofit organization engaged in regional growth management.

Katherine earned her B.A. in Education at Metropolitan State College of Denver and her Master of Education at the University of Northern Colorado.

  13. THE PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD WHO DISLIKE OUR AMAZING PRESIDENT ARE THOSE WITH SELF-CONSUMED AND GREEDY AGENDAS….THOSE WHO ARE RACIST…THOSE WHO ATTACH HIM TO STUPID CONSPIRACIES…THOSE WHO ARE ENEMIES OF TRUTH,JUSTICE AND FREEDOM. THE REST OF THE WORLD LOVE HIM WITH AN ABSOLUTE PASSION…THAT CERTAINLT INCLUDES THE LATINOS AND ANY OTHER PERSONS WHO HAVE BEEN PERSECUTED BECAUSE OF THEIR RACE,CREED OR COLOR! GO OBAMA 2012! YES…WE WILL DO IT AGAIN!

  14. I think the business community’s patience is starting to wear thin. The COC came out recently saying they’d look to remove any member of Congress who votes against raising the debt ceiling (assuming they mean if it’s not raised – not folks who vote against it while it’s still raised), and Rep. Camp (GOP out of MI) is behind the scenes telling businesses that it’s all for show and that absolutely it will get raised.

Businesses have to wonder why the silly posturing that is starting to hurt their bottom line if everybody knows it’s ultimately going to be raised.

Rep. Camp has a moderate wing that would have the numbers to raise it if every Dem vote to raise it if Boehner sided with the nut teabaggers.

The GOP is showing their hand to be reckless and putting politics over the economy.

  15. If the business community would be honest, they’ll admit that PBO is a treasure. But they’re so attached to Republicans, they can think straight anymore.

  16. We are already so on this here in AZ but we also need the white independent voters to get on board for ousting this Repugnant teapotty we now have in our local government that is ruining our State. Latinos will vote Dem and I believe they will turn out strong here. They voted for Obama in 2008 but we need more and stronger to take back our state from the crazies.

We know the battle and we are prepared.

  17. I wish an outfit would form to counter the Chamber of Commerce. It’s pretty ridiculous when you think about it – they’re strongly anti-union but are in fact a union of businesses who band together for political clout that they wouldn’t have separately.

The COC is nothing but a front group for right wing nut jobs. If the Dems were holding hostage the debt ceiling you can damn sure bet the CoC would have been out screaming from Fox Propaganda and the roof tops about how Democrats are hurting businesses. Not to mention businesses like money spent on infrastructure given there is no government road company or government bridge building company – it’s all contracted out work, not to mention businesses like sewers that work and roads without pot holes – but none of that matters to them because they’re no different than the Koch Bros.

  18. Well surely this can’t be real? President Obama hasn’t done anything right, don’t these people understand that? I’m sorry y’all, I just left a place where “Obama Suxs” is all the rage and people cannot fathom why his poll numbers are not dropping? I think we are going to surprise people with this election on both the Right and Left. The only question in my mind is whether or not people see the opportunity to take back Congress and are willing to put in the work? Maybe it’s just me,but around the blogosphere, I’m just not seeing the same commitment to keep pushing from the bottom up. I do not want to waste the golden opportunity the Republicans have given us.

  19. Mel, do you think they’ll refuse to be bought by an eventual candidacy of Rubio as VP on the republican ticket ?

  20. New Mexico polling shows PBO at 55% overall support no matter who the GOP nominates. Hispanic support is about 70% and Obama leads among Anglo voters. Typically if a candidate who appeals to Hispanics can split the Anglo vote here they are a lock. Hispanic numbers are also up according to the census.

  21. Wonderful news. This is the kind of factual information we need to be talking up, if for no other reason than to counter the desperate narrative now being crafted that Obama is done for what the Republicans do or say.

  22. Speaking of then vs. now, one of the questions the Republicans are sure to ask, imitating Reagan, is, “Are you better off now than you were (four) years ago?” What if people say, “Yes”? Did they ever think of that?
So I’ll ask people here: Are you better off now than you were 2 1/2 years ago?

  23. Hey Tigerfists…since you have so many followers, could you tweet something to the effect of #GOP stops economic progress but blame #Obama Thx.

  24. Heckuva Job Brownie buries the Bush Admin in his new book –

And as the federal government faced mounting criticism in the wake of the disaster, Bush “immediately went into CYA [cover your ass] mode,” Brown writes. “I was made the scapegoat for the administration.”

Brown, whom Bush infamously said was doing “a heck of a job,” writes that he was stymied by incompetent local officials and, at the federal level, a chain of command that slowed down FEMA’s response.

“President George W. Bush didn’t get it,” Brown writes. “He failed to comprehend the magnitude of the storm, the critical timing for evacuation, and the increase in services and personnel that was needed because so many people had not left New Orleans.”

Later, he writes that “the President tended to act like a well-meaning fraternity boy who wanted everybody to like him.”

But, wait! There’s more. He goes on to accuse Bush and his family of being “sheltered from reality.”

“The President and his family are not unlike European royalty. They can lead privileged lives isolated from the cares and concerns of the public.”

Goes after Chertoff, Condi Rice and Rove as well.

  25. I got my job as a librarian the summer before the 2008 general election, and I can definitely say that yes, my life has gotten better.

  26. Wow, I bet he won’t be invited to the convention or the opening of the Bush library.

  27. Very good point. However would also question of Americans and their fruit fly memories can even remember back that far. GOP will point to higher or stagnant unemployment because they’ll blame President Obama for the first four months of epic job losses in his term even though none of his policies would have been enacted or taken root.

  28. Good news from my state on the Prop 8 battle.

San Francisco – Chief Judge James Ware of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California today denied a motion by Prop 8 proponents asking the court to vacate Chief Judge Vaughn Walker’s ruling declaring Prop 8 unconstitutional. The Prop 8 supporters contended that now-retired Judge Walker should have declined to hear the case because he was in a long-term relationship with another man, and that the judge’s decision should be invalidated for that reason.

Last month, Equality California, the National Center for Lesbian Rights, the ACLU of Northern California and Lambda Legal filed a friend-of-the-court brief in Perry v. Brown urging the U.S. District Court not to vacate last year’s historic ruling invalidating Proposition 8. The brief contended that the Prop 8 supporters’ motion closely parallels long-discredited historical attempts to disqualify judges based on their race, sex or religion. The groups argued that the Prop 8 supporters’ argument boils down to the notion that essentially no gay, lesbian or bisexual judge could impartially preside over a case involving the rights of same-sex couples – an offensive suggestion that has been consistently rejected by the courts in similar cases involving race and sex discrimination.

“Today’s ruling is another heartening victory in our struggle for equality. We applaud the court for rejecting the pathetic attempts by Prop 8 backers to viciously malign Judge Walker,” said Jim Carroll, Interim Executive Director of Equality California. “Because proponents of the marriage ban have repeatedly failed to present even a shred of evidence to support the insidious discrimination that Prop 8 fosters, they tried and failed to hide behind groundless, shameful arguments to discredit Judge Walker – arguments that fail to hold up under even the slightest scrutiny. As more and more Americans support equality and freedom, we are hopeful that families headed by same-sex couples will one day soon see justice. Thanks to the American Foundation for Equal Rights and its talented legal team for their ongoing commitment to this noble fight.”

Judge Ware also denied a motion by Prop 8 supporters that would have required the plaintiffs’ lawyers to return their copies of the video recordings of the trial.

  29. I lost my job august of 2010, and my life has gotten better, i am more informed about politics, i am involved in helping to re elect this president. i am more confident and eager to learn and i am glad to know that i have a government who will step in when im down. I have community healthcare after i lost my job, i have unemployment insurance i have access to anything i need thanks to the dems and this president putting them into place and fight to keep them

  30. Any rumors for the open Senate seat other than Gabby which unfortunately looks like a pipe dream at this point? Glassman was brutal last time and he’ll be brutal again.

What’s Randy Parraz up to? Probably not a good candidate given the political climate but he could be working for the party to organize and get out voters this time around.

  31. We definitely need to push to take the house back as well as increase our margin in the Senate. I think it’s hard to focus on the house/Senate races at this early stage. I expect we’ll see more concentration starting in early 2012.

I also think that we are going to have to go outside of DK to push for organizing for GOTV in 2012. Hopefully, this group of pragmatic sites will help with getting us involved in 2012.

  32. Yes, I have a much better paying job now than I did in 2008 and thanks to Obama and Congress I am finally able to pay down my credit card bills because they are required to let me lock in a lower interest payment for a year.

  33. I really have hard time understanding many of you supporters, for sure of the President, but the way you look at things is so different than I do, this is to ALL OF YOU, therefore I will never ever give any of my thoughts in this site to change your way. I hope you will understand my rights to express, at least, this thought to you from time to time, because I have said this before and I am repeating my self.

    Thank you.

Just think a little more. I am saying everything is going fine STOP the Whining!!!!!! and do something productive!

  34. Help I want an Obama avatar for this site and twitter. I have read the instructions but do not understand them at all.
    Thanks

  35. I so wanted Gabby to run for Kyl’s seat. Baring a huge miracle, that probably won’t happen but if she is well enough to want to keep her Rep seat, I think it will be her’s in a landslide of votes.

I have to say that Glassman both inspired me and pissed me off a bit. Taking on McCain was a bit like David taking on Goliath but Glassman didn’t have enough rocks. Also, imho he ran a bad campaign and I say this as a person who worked for him. I would love to see him go up for Kyl’s seat but I would love it even better if Chris Deschene who ran for Sec State (D) and lost would decide to go for this one.
I don’t think Randy Parraz has a prayer in Maricopa county. Here in AZ, politicians need Maricopa county to win. He hurt Glassman and whether he will let his own ambitions go and really fight for Dems is up to him.

This is still early days here and I am far from being that politically savvy. I just know that I will be working for PBO and Dems here in AZ.

  36. If you have an image that you want to use, then go to gravatar.com, register, then upload the image. It will show up any place that uses gravatars such as this blog.

On twitter got to edit your profile above the tweets tab and upload the picture there.

  37. They want some-one looking suave, the fluent mandarin guy,(guess this may help a few, right?) . They need some-one who looks the part. That is what the rethugs are all about. Image. But when you start to dig deeper at what their real stances are /…heaven help the thinking public at large!

  38. Officially or just announced he will announce soon?

Either way, this guy will remind too many people of Charlie Crist. He certainly not going to be the anti-Romney establishment pick (as he pretty much offers up the same package) and wouldn’t make any sense as Romney’s running mate either. Maybe he’d hoping Pawlenty would win and he’d be picked as the VP.

I think he made a HUGE mistake leaving the Ambassador post to run in this election because I think he’ll get buried to the point he’ll look like a fringe candidate in 2016. If he finishes 4-5 in Iowa and NH and then 3rd or worse in Florida can he really come back in 2016 and be seen as a legit contender?

Gingrich, Cain and Santorum are not going to split the teabagger vote enough away from Bachmann so she’ll be top three every where (unless Perry runs). They you’ll have Mitt and the anti-Mitt establishment pick that will be Pawlenty by default in the top three as well.

Huntsman might benefit if Perry jumps in, because then he steals both Pawlenty and Bachman voters, opening the possibility that Huntsman could get third in some states.

  39. Channel the Ghost of FDR!

Every Liberal Talk Show Should Channel the Ghost of FDR! Play his clips every day! Ask Any Candidate What They Think About FDR…

I’ll bet ya that no one’s become president of the USA by denigrating him in the campaign!

  40. What if he is the candidate in a brokered convention ? Is it even possible since rethugs primary, IIRR, is winner takes it all unlike dems proportional delegates system.

  41. He’s supposed to announce in NJ next week, so this his pre- official announcement.

  42. At the same stage in his candidacy, then Senator Obama was consistently in the #2 spot among Democratic primary voters. And while Hillary Clinton led him by double digits in most areas, a New Hampshire DEM primary poll in June 2007 showed Obama surpassing Clinton (and other contenders) on (1) whether the candidate was believeable and (2) whether the candidate is likeable.

I don’t see Hunstman any where near the top 5 in any GOP Primary poll so far.

  43. I gave that Betty Pinson a hot slice of my mind for her vile and digusting remarks about our President damaging the reputation of the Democratic party and hurting the country. At the time I posted, her comment had received many recs (at least 6) and not one dissenting response (apart from mine). That was on a thread by that ridiculous ignorant fool Bob swern. One of these days, I will the management a scathing letter calling them out (including Mr. Moulitas) about their two-faced covert attempts to sabotage this President.

I noticed that there is a now a front page article calling out Romney on his hypocritical stance on the jobs situation…someone must be reading my posts and reporting back to DKOS….

  44. He definitely needs to make a splash somehow. I wonder if he’s in NJ to declare his campaign because he could have a Christie endorsement – that would be out of left field and silly for Christie, but it would be a splash. But is wholly unrealistic at this early stage.

Now supposedly John McCain talked him into running, and Huntsman does have Weaver running his campaign. Weaver ran McCains campaign early before resigning in a power struggle. Also McCain vet adman Fred Davis is part of the Huntsman campaign. I wouldn’t be surprised to see that ol maverick McCain endorse early

  45. The first 4-5 primaries are now proportional, the GOP made this switch to extend their primaries a bit longer as they thought the long Dem primary really benefitted Obama. After those they’re winner take all.

Huntsman is hoping for a different winner in each of the four early contests, so he can reach the California, NY and NJ primaries where he could winner-take-all the big delegation states. He knows he doesn’t play well in Iowa or SC, and will have an uphill climb in NH. He just hopes Bachmann wins Iowa, Mitt wins NH and Pawlenty wins SC.

  46. They are all about pretenses. Just like their over the top support for the troops, only in words. They love sloganeering, too. They are looking for their “Obama” in Huntsman.

    Go figure.

  47. I thought he made a mistake also because he could have come out in 2016 as the moderate Republican who had worked with POTUS for the better of the country. I think he took Plouffe comment about him being the person who worried him the most to heart. This is the wrong environment for a moderate Repub. And, by shifting to the right he loses the indy vote. Very weird.

Do you think it’s a two way race between Bachman and Romney in Iowa and N.H.? And, what about Rudy and Perry jumping in it?

  48. Yes. I’m better off because my government is moving toward a greener economy. We are actually making cars that get better mileage and encouraging the development of greener technology.

I don’t carry the shame of a government that indulges in torture. The wars are winding down and I don’t worry that the President has access to the nuclear (not nucular) button because I actually trust him. I feel proud when my President visits other nations.

My son has health insurance that he would not otherwise have and I know that more health care reforms are being phased in. I see some states working toward universal health care and I know that they will be the models for others to follow.

I sleep peacefully at night because an intelligent and benevolent person is in charge. Someone who is a role model for the parents and children of the nation.

I’m better off because all these things give me peace of mind.

I go to sleep with a smile on my face and I am thankful.

  49. Romney is seemingly giving up Iowa again. I think Iowa will be between Pawlenty who is going all in there and Bachman. Rudy wouldn’t play well in Iowa, but would make a run at Mitt in NH and and any chance Huntsman had of making any noise in NH (also killing Huntsman’s chances in NJ and NY if he lasts that long).

If Perry gets in, I think it becomes a two horse race between Romney and Perry with everybody else fading away. Perry would win Iowa and SC, Romney would win NH and NV. Florida would be a toss-up.

However I don’t think Perry will get in – it’s too hard work for a guy who is sitting pretty now in Texas, newly re-elected, chair of the Republican Governors Association. His current 4 year term carries him into 2014 which would be the perfect time to launch his 2016 bid.

I don’t think Rudy runs either. Or Palin. After Huntsman I think the field is set. Cain, Gingrich and Santorum will not last long – probably don’t make it out of Iowa. Newt probably won’t make it to Iowa.

  50. Hi Tien Le
What I would like to find is the Obama 2012 oval or his picture with 2012. Where would I find one of those.
    Thanks again.

  51. That was the leak, but you never know if it’s a strategic leak. I tend to believe it’s legit though as Huntsman would be worrisome if he did make it to the general as teabaggers will be enthused to vote against Obama even if not for Huntsman. The old school Republicans will like Huntsman and the indies will think voting for Huntsman will bring a new dawn of civility to the political discourse.

It will be hard for Obama to run against Huntsman because he tabbed him to work for him, so he can’t really attack him personally but it would have to be all politics. Huntsman OTOH can say “President Obama isn’t who I thought he was, and as I saw what he was doing to the country I knew I had to come back” sorta deal.

  52. The Mormon thing might be an issue in the primary, but the RR/Evangelicals will get over it and rally out their vote just to defeat Obama if Mitt or Huntsman were at the top of the GOP ticket. Fox Propaganda has conditioned these folks to HATE Obama and everything about him.

  53. My goodness! VERY well said. You’re right, we are better off in many ways. If indeed we really do get completely out of Iraq at the end of the year, we will ALL be better off.

  54. Check out all the places he calls home. He was born in Utah (which he refuses to announce from), he’s announcing from NJ and his campaign headquarters is in Florida. What’s going on??

  55. Not that President Obama would do this, but he could always say, yeah Huntsman worked for me and I wasn’t impressed. The sword cuts both ways.

  56. I’m with SR, I think it was a strategic leak. Brinksmanship. Get him into the race now. Huntsman must at all costs beat up on Obama on the campaign trail. If all they’re going to run on is how bad they think the President is and don’t come up with any real ideas that are new, then his arguments will not resonate with people who want the optimistic view Obama presents. And remember him yelling the Grand Wizard’s name on that video. That’s not what I call how you inspire a crowd. He lacks that quality and will contrast poorly next to an expert orator. People like Obama and he has a brilliant way of communicating his vision, plus other-worldly timing.

  57. Interesting. I agree about Newt, which is too bad because I thougt he would be good for comic relief. But I guess we will have to count on Michelle for that entertainment.

As to Huntsman I don’t see many big name GOP folks going with him because they are still playing a wait and see game. As far as Plouffe statement I think he honestly belief Huntsman could be problematic. But I think this only applied to the Huntsman who believed in global warming, civil unions and other moderate positions. The Huntsman who is veering right to survive the GOP primary is just like the other boneheads running.

What is there abou them that stands out from the other contestants? For Romney and Huntsman its their religion, but other than than not much else.

  58. TOO FUNNY..!! From my twitter timeline:

RT @JasonEmbry: Crowd at Repub Lship Conf not sure how to react to #Obama impersonator who makes fun of Barbara Bush, Boehner and Mormonism.

  59. I just wish this impersonator wasn’t impersonating the President. There’s no way the President would be making fun of these things, unless he was at the WHCD. Many people conflate these made up things with reality.

  60. I’m here, too…

Now, where’s desertflower, japa21, and the rest of the ‘TOAITR’ gang?😉 lol

    YES.WE.CAN…DO.(Much)More, Together!
    I’M IN…FIRED UP & READY TO GO!😉

  61. I’m here, love! More room to breathe over here…and poor OSG has been asking since the other day:) We’re here now, OSG! How are things?

  62. Yes, what a shame. My question over at TOD was: How many in the LGBT community does he speak for, or do they feel like he’s a poser sucking all the oxygen out of the room and want nothing more than for him to STFU?

  63. I am here. Thanks for taking control of the site. It has been great sticking together until BWD comes back. And all the news is still good. PBO’s real troops are out on the street doing what we do best. OTH I am hosing a 16th bday party for my special need g/grandaughter. The one the docs said would only live a few hrs. How could they know so little about God and the power of prayer.

    PS H

  64. LOL yes it is an oxymoron and a good one too.

  65. LOL y who knows how I write in the white space not the black space which I hate with a passion.

  66. I’m doing fine, DF. Am proofing something written in Old Irish and the script is awful and you have to keep watching for faint accent marks to be coded and faint dots which mean add an “h”. My old eyes and brain are hating it, but you all are keeping me sane while I get through this. Off to the new thread.

  67. Karen Tumlty invited me to “unfollow” her. Not in my life time. I like tapping her. I like knowing she doesn’t like it.
