  1. Remember those who sacrificed for this country this day, especially in Iraq and Afghanistan. God bless them and their families.

  2. . . . and then this afternoon and evening, he’s going to be quiet and still and enjoy his family, right? Love to PBO and you and all of us.
Today I am honoring the people who have died while serving these United States in the military, however that was for them. May it all be transformed to the light of the world.

  3. To honor the fallen and the wounded I find myself drawn to working to remove the occasion for war.

  4. I so want him to rest–the pace he’s keeping is punishing. He needs restorative time like everyone else in the world.

This past week we buried my brother-in-law with military honors as he was a very proud World War II Navy vet. The military is magnificent in its way of honoring the dead–so dignified and so moving. When they played taps for my brother-in-law and handed the folded flag to my sister, it was impossible to control the tears. We should stop today and remember all those who died serving their country and how much we owe them.

I attended a sermon once where the minister asked us to imagine American soldiers from every war marching up the aisle of the church. We sat there quietly for while as we thought about it and it was an incredibly powerful experience. The message the minister tried to convey was that we mustn’t forget these brave soldiers or take their sacrifice for granted. They were real people with the same hopes and needs as all of us–people just like those sitting beside us in the pews. That’s so important to remember on this day.

  5. FIRED UP…!!

    READY TO GO..!!!😀

  6. Good morning everyone. Thank you to all the military out there and to all their families. We are hosting a dinner tonight for several ex military. Hope everyone has a good day.

I hope the President has a quiet day with hid family.

  7. Happy memorial day. Peace to all and wish all a quiet and reflective day. I hope the President and the First Lady have a relaxing moment!!

  8. Mornin’ All…

I want to honor all military servicemembers, past and present, who served and sacrificed so much to keep America safe…

And, of course, I want to give thanks to those still servin’ to keep us that way!

May all have a quiet, peaceful, restful, and Happy Memorial Day!

That goes for POTUS and FLOTUS, too…

    They have done us proud!

  9. Although this is a day to commemorate our men and women in uniform and their service to this country, I am proposing that we thank all people who give their hearts and minds in service to this great nation. One by one, if we pledge even a few minutes/day to making this country the best it can be, we will achieve the goal of a just, peaceful, compassionate society that will continue to be a beacon of those who treasure freedom and opportunity.

  10. Jackie, I agree POTUS does…

But, WE know he won’t until he feels “all IS right in the world!”

I’m sorry about your loss. I want to send my condolences to you and your family. ::Virtual Hugs::

And, that’s so true, WE MUST NOT FORGET!

  11. May your brother-in-law rest in peace. Comfort to you and your family, Jackie.

  12. Happy Memorial Day, everyone! Thanks and respect to all who have sacrificed. We will never forget.

  13. War is hell – anyone who doesn’t realize that needs to see this video. We have beautiful young men and women coming home broken – both in body and in soul. The first President Bush promised the Iraqis when we ended the first Gulf War that if Saddam attacked them we would help – he did, we didn’t and he killed tens of thousands of his own people. His son went into Iraq at a time when Saddam was contained and we killed hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis. In decades past we have armed horrible dictators who have killed their own people and then we turned around, named them our enemies and fought them.
President Obama is trying to mend fences around the world at the same time as he is trying to defeat those who would do us harm – it is a delicate dance and one he is the best able to navigate since he really wants peace.
I am Jewish but I really hope Bibi gives us some room for negotiation – right now it looks like we will be the only ones defending Israel in the UN and the borders are opening in the region and things will only get more dangerous for Israel – they need to give some reason for hope for the Palestinians or it will get more dangerous.

  14. I received this email, today:

From: Dr. Jill Biden, The White House
Subject: Serving Those Who Serve Us
    To: Lillie

    Good morning,

This Memorial Day, First Lady Michelle Obama and I are asking our fellow citizens to honor the brave men and women who have served and sacrificed so much for our country by supporting our military families and veterans.

WILL YOU JOIN ME IN SENDING A NOTE OF THANKS TO OUR MILITARY FAMILIES? You can submit your message on JoiningForces.gov:

Our military families are true American heroes: they are parents who raise their kids alone while their spouse is deployed overseas, they are the grandparents who provide much needed support, and they are military kids who work hard in school while bravely awaiting their mom or dad’s return from deployment. They serve our country bravely and without asking for recognition for their sacrifices.

That’s why the First Lady and I started Joining Forces, a national initiative to recognize, honor and support our military families.

As a military mom, I know that a simple act of kindness can make a difference in the lives of our military families and veterans. Whether you offer to babysit or carpool, or just take a moment to say thank you, everyone can do something to support our service members and their families.

We are working with employers, with communities, with faith leaders, with schools and so many others. We can all join forces.

At JoiningForces.gov you’ll find lots of ways to get involved. You can find service opportunities in your area, send a message of support to military families, or tell us your own story of service:

    http://www.JoiningForces.gov

To all of our men and women in uniform, our veterans and our military families: thank you, we are so grateful for your commitment and sacrifice.

    Sincerely,

    Jill

P.S. We’ve created a special email list for more frequent updates about the Joining Forces campaign.

You can sign up here: WhiteHouse.gov/JoiningForcesEmail

    WE, all, should do this!

  15. Does everyone have a “Forgotten Soldiers” group or similar where they live? They ran an event the other night and everyone who came brought items like razors, shaving cream, sunscreen etc which will be shipped to our soldiers.
The First Lady and Jill Biden have a group supporting the soldiers and their families – supporting those families is a wonderful thing to do – find out where the families are near you and offer a service – babysit or wash a car – ask what they need and help and let them know you appreciate the sacrifice the family is giving.

  16. Good Morning BWD family and Happy Memorial Day.

The administration has been so supportive of military families. Their actions have influenced my ideas. As someone who opposes war I tended to dismiss the military.

President Obama, Mrs Obama and the Bidens have shown me we can honor the service of the military and their families while still opposing war.

One of my blog stories for the day

Nonprofit thanks military brides for service with free gowns

I have included a video of Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden which showcases all they have done for the military and their families all year long.
    They are amazing.

  17. For a collection of stories about the military and their families.

    http://www.whatisworking.com/search/label/military

My favorite continues to be the veterans who helped the folks in Joplin Missouri. After posting the original story I received a note about a video where Mrs Obama praises Team Rubicon, that has now been added to the post.

Hopefully everyone can find one story that touches them.

  18. Jovie – it will IF we can get young people registered! The new law won’t allow us to register the college kids until the fall when we will know what their addresses will be! This new law is a disaster! Can you imagine, the League of Women Voters will NOT BE DOING VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVES IN FLORIDA because of the new restrictions places on outside groups!!
The absentee ballots which everyone thought was good for two election cycles they changed so that everyone who voted in 2010 as absentee they need to re-register again if they want to vote by absentee ballot!!

The Florida GOP are a bunch of criminals!!

  19. Wishing everyone a restful Memorial Day, remembering the soldiers who have given their lives to keep us safe, praying for those out serving us now, to stay safe as they fight for us.

  20. The GOP is TOAST in Florida. Rick Scott is TOXIC. I just read this article on Politico and lets just say that Florida may not be so hard to win after all for PResident Obama and the democrats.

President Obama’s secret weapon in Florida: Rick Scott

Six months ago, in the wake of the wipe-out midterm elections, moderate Florida Sen. Bill Nelson privately vented that President Barack Obama, weighed down by his health reform effort and muddled messaging, was “toxic” for Democrats back home.

Yet Obama’s approval rating has surged from 42 percent to 51 percent in the last month, and Nelson is now openly embracing the president, pronouncing himself dutifully “fired up” at an Obama-hosted Miami fundraiser this spring.

What’s changed? The killing of Osama bin Laden, slow but demonstrable improvements to the foreclosure-ravaged economy, a cooling of tea party passions and the toxic nature of House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s Medicare overhaul in a state with one of the largest populations over the age of 55 in the nation — all are factors in Obama’s turnaround.

But Obama’s biggest asset in a critical swing state he won by a mere 2.8-percentage-point margin in 2008 might be Rick Scott, the wildly unpopular Republican governor Democrats are casting as Lex Luthor to Obama’s Clark Kent.

  21. Happy Memorial Day everyone, just stay calm. cool and do drink to many beers, have a lot’s of fun.
Thank you BWD and have a nice day.

  22. Thanks Jayne for the reminder…

    And, that’s a great idea!

If they don’t know of one, they can find one here: (That’s how I found one.)

    http://www.JoiningForces.gov

First and foremost, FLOTUS and 2LOTUS always have all our, active and veteran, servicemen and servicewomen’s health and well-bein’ on their minds…

How fortunate they are, WE are, and America is!

  23. The ‘Obama’ Effect IS, slowly but surely, “workin’ its’ magic!”😉

  24. Thanks. I got to watch it thanks to your link. I really enjoyed the ceremony and thought that the president’s speech was moving, deferential and so respectful to the men and women serving. I hope they felt that way towards him.

I read a comment the other day that said the soldiers and officers don’t like the president, and only pretend to respect him.

    I hope that isn’t true.

  25. Good to see you as well, MS4T. How are you?

It is great go see doctors changing there stance regarding hcr. We need more of them on our side. Health care should not be a for profit business.

  26. Excellent point, Jayne. We arm bad people, declare them enemies, go to war with them. It’s a racket. This is one of many reasons the RW and MSM hate our President. He’s in the Peace racket.

  27. However, we surely can see and know that the Commander-In-Chief does not pretend to like his men and women in service of our country. Just look at his record. The shame would be for our President to pretend that he respects them. Which is NOT the case, as we know the facts. This President has done more to bring peace and make good changes and workable changes for our service men and women than any President in my lifetime. And I am old enough to remember many of our Presidents. I just want to support and do what is right in my heart to respect and make our service men and women lives better. The President does not worry about whether someone says that his men and women in uniform are pretending. We do not need to pretend to this President. He is focused on bringing our men and women home and protecting our country. So let us focus on the goodness of this President and look at his record.

  28. There can only be one reason why they are doing this…they see some way to make a profit or benefit the Insurance industry.

  29. Outside groups? Do they count the Democratic party as an outside group? If not then voter registration won’t be an issue. All the bodies from the League of Women Voters can register voters under the banner of the Democratic party. Anyone that devoted to registering voters isn’t going to sit on the sidelines and not help people register to vote. They will find a way. Just wear a different hat.

  30. Good Morning BWD and family here. Thank you for this beautiful site BWD. May our hearts and minds be gracefully peaceful in thoughts and deeds for our fallen men and women who served us well. Let us keep our eyes and hearts together in good thoughts and works to pray for wisdom for our President and military staff to find a way to bring our men and women home as soon as possible. Then as they come home, may we rally around them and with them within our communities to help them adjust to their new life in their homes. I am helping in my community and adjoining communities during the week, and I must say it is such a joy. These families are so grateful for the smallest of kindness. They are so proud, so they will not ask, but we need to be there for them. Remember, they did not ask,”Do I believe in wars?”, they just went when they were called. So let us agree with our President, they said, “Send Me,” now we say, “I here to help you as you come home to us.” Have a great day meditating and thinking how we can help. I love you all here in my family.

  31. Ugggh. This reporter is so typical of what we get stuck with. “Perhaps for the privacy of the families there.” Ya think??

  32. I don’t know where you read that comment, but nothing we’ve seen here so far substantiates that hateful comment. Sure there are some who don’t like the President for various reasons. The Military represents all aspects of our society. My sense is, based on the reactions we’ve seen from the military when he visits bases around the world would indicate that vast numbers of those serving love our President.

  33. That is a very good read. I’m glad that the culture of physicians itself is changing. That can only be a good thing.

  34. It’s truly sad to hear that and in my opinion CNN just looks bad, especially when today should be about the Military and their families, they are covering a very superficial and self-center individual. There is so much the MSM could cover, considering all the efforts being put forth by the First Lady and Jill Biden to draw attention to Military families. Why not profile the families and inform viewers how they can volunteer or contribute to Military families.

  35. It was just a bad chyron – didn’t have room for “Palin’s historical site bus tour” as she’s visiting historical sites as destination points as reason for her tour.

  36. Oh really? they thought Obama was the problem, huh? Not Dems running away from health care reform and the president himself? OK. Obama was the one that had a muddled message? Yeah, ok.

A lot of these Dems have Obama to thank for getting into office in the first place. It was the excitement around him that brought people to the polls and they repaid him by pissing on him in order to win re-election. And most of them didn’t. Lesson learned? let’s hope so.

  37. I’m glad McCain says this – anything that could convince Palin she has a chance and should run. Though I suspect an ulterior motive in that Huntsman is McCain’s dog in this fight, and Palin running would pull Romney and Pawlenty far right, allowing Huntsman to be the only moderate voice.

  38. Huntsman is moving right also. He’s already flipped on some of his moderate positions and he will continue in that direction throughout the primaries.

  39. Thanks WIW for sharing this story of the important part being played by the First Lady and Dr. Jill Biden in focusing attention on helping military families. Thank you also for the wonderful work you are doing spreading positive information.

  40. Haha. Sometimes I think the comedians have more sense than the news media.

  41. I give thanks to all the brave men and women who have given their lives in the name of America’s freedom. I also give thanks to their families.

Please remember to observe the National Moment of Remembrance beginning at 3:00 p.m. local time today.

  42. Thanks, Girlfriend. I’m so, so honored to be part of the work being done by the entire network of people who are standing up for reason and responsibility.

  43. WWW, all the stories were touching. Again, thank you for your impressive work in spreading these stories.

  44. Betsy, Do you know where you read that comment? My experience with young active duty military and some veterans of Iraq and Afghan wars contradicts that view.

  45. Happy Memorial Day Everyone🙂

Thanks to all Who are serving and the one Who sacrificed their lives for our freedom!

Thanks to President Obama for continually trying to heal this divided country, if the entire world can see his goodness what’s wrong with America???

I can’t careless what the Media is, or not reporting,

One thing I know for sure

THAT I AM FIRED UP READY TO GO!!!!!!!!!! AND DO WHATEVER I CAN TO MAKE SURE THAT HE’S RE-ELECTED

    ARE YOU FIRED UP?????

  46. I am so happy the National news media in Canada is not covering her self-promotion tour…Pssst SP is Super Unpopular here.

OT, I wrote to CTV National News Channel in Canada regarding their continued mis-statements that President Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu made differing statements regarding the 1967 lines. In addition, Prime Minister Harper denied he ever discussed 1967 lines with Prime Minister Netanyhau he said it simply didn’t come up during the G8 Summit nor did he bring it up or ask any World leader to take any postion on the matter. The media here has since dropped it.

  47. Hey, Tien Le, I am sure she will now claim to be an expert on Jefferson’s ideas simply because she visited Monticello!

By the way, thanks for that excellent post on TPV and Congrats. for joining a terrific team!

  48. What else could the poor guy say? To say otherwise would have been an admission that he made an idiotic decision when he selected her for V.P.

  49. Thanks for posting the music videos nintendowii10. They remind me of how bad things were and how far we’ve come.

  50. Kasai, thanks for that video. I am now Fired Up and Ready To Go! For 2012!

  51. I read it in the comment section of one of the articles posted from either this site or TOD site. The article was very positive towards the president and his actions with the military, something I agree with myself. I have also heard similar rhetoric from a republican friend I work with, whose son is in the military. She said her son told her that they don’t really pay attention to what the CIC does, it’s the top military they listen to; This was before President Obama got Bin Laden, but it really bothered me. A co-worker, whose husband is in the US Coast Guard, told me that most of the people she knows in the coast guard are not President Obama supporters, in fact, the opposite. I talk to her alot, and she’s coming around. Anyway, when I saw that comment it really bothered me. I know we want to remain positive on this site, but I have to admit, I do get worried at times.

  52. RE: the tweet to the right, “The truth hurts”

First time I saw this video and it’s terrifying.

At the same time it shows in a very short clip what exactly the Republican Medicare “reform” is — a nice pleasant ride before the heart-stopping toss over the cliff.

No wonder the Republicans are in a tizzy about it — the truth really DOES hurt!

  53. This is a total fabrication by the MSM is pure B.S Sarah is NOT going to run, remember
Trump? all of the are a Big Joke.
If Sarah Runs she will not ever be able to challange POTUS massive intellect.

  54. Susanna “the Tejana” Martinez has been under the radar for a bit now since she won the Governor’s race last November but we are going to rue the day we elected this overly ambitious attack dog. She seems to think that she was elected Super District Attorney rather than governor.

New Mexico needs a new generation of Democratic leaders to clean the slate of all the politco deadwood that circles like zipolotes above Santa Fe. Otherwise, we can be treated to more TeaBaggery in the future.

  55. O.K if The hero McCain couln not beat Obama, how Sarah will McCain is full of B.S and he knows it what alse would he say about Sarah.

  56. It’s not generally true. I’m sure there are some right wingers in the military but most appear to have voted for him in 2008 and can be expected to do so now. They know the quality of civilian leadership is greater now than it was under W and they feel a sense of great accomplishment in OBL having been eliminated.

  57. Ha, Ha, Ha that is too funny! yes Sarah please run and I will donate NOT.

  58. Kasai it’s a realy great vidio I hope a lot of people watch it, so thank you.

  59. OT – but, important given that today we honor all those who have given their life for our freedom. Today, for the first time in months, the people of Tripoli went into the streets to protest – yes, Tripoli:

    http://blogs.aljazeera.net/liveblog/libya-may-30-2011-2350

For all those here today who have served or whom have family whom have served or currently are serving our wonderful United States of America – a heartfelt thank you.

    Yes.We.Can. … DO.More.Together!

  60. The overwhelming majority of Reps and Senators that stuck with Obama won in November. Blue Dogs that wanted to show their independence got wiped out. Too bad they didn’t remember that was the Creigh Deeds strategy in Virgina. How’d that work out?

  61. That’s great news. It might be the Palin effect. I read somewhere that the ‘magic number’ for incumbent Presidents is 48% to be re-elected. Of course, a lot can happen between now and the election.

  62. Hi Esmeralda, Hope you are having a peaceful Memorial Day.

    Zuma’s visit is irrelevant.

Here’s a link you, and others, may find interesting:

Folk in that particular DISQUS thread at AJE are quite well informed.

We realized last Sunday that major defections were underway from Daffi’s Army (now being reported for the first time today by the corporate media) and that other significant shifts were occurring, i.e., corporate media ‘stalemate’ commentary was stale, to say the least.

    Yes.We.Can. … DO.More.Together!

  63. I’ve watched it twice today & am more fired up than ever!! Thanks for sharing it.🙂

  64. So, the House GOP “rebukes” Pres. Obama: Obama rebuked by GOP House over Libya.

They’re very angry and have given Obama 14 days to get them their ponies or else.

The approved resolution “puts the president on notice,” said House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio. “He has a chance to get this right. If he doesn’t, Congress will exercise its constitutional authority and make it right.”

I assume by “Congress”, Mr. Boehner includes the Democrat-controlled Senate, right? Right? Yeah, I thought so.

  65. A lot od Dems aren’t happy with the situation in Libya either. Of course, they ignore the fact that we are basically a silent partner, as I understand it.

I understand Congress wanting to have say in military commitments. But this was hardly a major miltary commitment.

  66. PBO fails the 3 CiC tests:

    1) His middle name cannot be “Hussein”.
    2) He cannot be black.
    3) And he cannot be a Democrat.

(The positioning of nos. 1 and 2 can vary, depending on who’s giving the test.)

  67. And we’ll wish them lots of luck getting THAT through the Senate. LOL.

  68. The image I have of Boehner and Cantor is of spoiled brats stomping their feet and crying their eyes out because they haven’t gotten what they wanted most: PBO groveling before them.
