  1. It is raining now in Moneygal as the First Family’s Marine One touches the ground…

  2. There is an iPhone app for rte news woohoo I can watch it while I am going to work🙂

  3. I am really enjoying seeing the reception Our President and First Lady are getting in Ireland.

  4. Good Morning Everyone

A sea of supporters. I love the girl with Obama written on her cheek.

Saw this last night and it made me smile.

Republicans suggest deal possible on healthcare

    My favorite quote
“Polls show that Ryan’s proposed changes are unpopular with voters, and McConnell said he is not urging his fellow Republicans to support it when it comes up for a vote in the Senate this week.

“We have other budgets that Republicans are pushing,” McConnell said. “We’re not going to be able to coalesce behind just one.”

How fun – they have “other” budgets – bring em on.

  5. Ahhh, just in time to switch on BBC to see FLOTUS & POTUS steppin’ out of the that SUV.

  6. Now time to shake hands with the wild crowd.

“Fantastic to see you” to POTUS

    “You look lovely” to FLOTUS

  7. It stopped raining and the sun came out when POTUS and FLOTUS arrived in Moneygall. Coincidence…I think not!

  8. When is Reid going to bring the Ryan Budget to the senate floor for a vote? I thought it was supposed to be last week – obviously not.

  9. Yup. Quite sunny. Not a hint of rain. A gentle breeze.

Babies being passed around for the ‘presidential hug’.🙂

    Different models of digicams.

  10. Do you have a link for BBC coverage of the President in Moneygall? 🙂

  11. Looks like they are meeting all the 300 people of Moneygall.

Moneygall planning to gift to POTUS – A special scroll and to FLOTUS – A silver necklace.

  12. I’ve heard it could go down as much as 40-50 cents before it settles at it’s new reality.

  13. The crowd is going nutz. They now showing his ancestor home. No. 123. Cool no. isn’t it ?

  14. This is so cool!!! They are all having a lot of fun including the President seeing people genuinely love him – not just what he is or isn’t going to do for me. On the gifts, I think they can since they are not from government officials.

  15. Thank you so much BWD; The most love President ever ever Thank you Irland, and take care of our President.

  16. Yes soo!! cool they realy love him they just want to hugh him I have never seen a president getting such great receptions , when ever he travels.

  17. Oh my goodness, I’m loving this. I’m watching the coverage on RTE.ie, the newscasters are just as excited as the people.

  18. I hope you are all able to watch this. The people of Moneygall are getting all lots of wonderful attention from our POTUS and FLOTUS. It is so exciting to see them shaking so many hands. Love those baby pictures.

  19. BBC

The Obamas visited the ancestral home of the Kearney family, and enjoyed supping on a pint – or a half, in the first lady’s case – of Guinness in the village pub.

There had been a minor delay to the US president’s schedule when his bomb-proof Cadillac – nicknamed “the Beast” – became stuck on a ramp on the way out of the US embassy in Dublin, forcing the US first couple to switch vehicles.

On Tuesday, Mr Obama flies to London for a three-day state visit to the UK.

He and his wife will stay at Buckingham Palace as guests of the Queen.

Mr Obama will hold talks with Prime Minister David Cameron at 10 Downing Street with the Nato operation in Libya expected to be high on the agenda.

Mr Obama will also address both houses of the UK parliament at Westminster Hall.

It is rare for a foreign head of state to make such an address in Westminster Hall – usually this is reserved for British monarchs.

  20. They actually brought over a keg of Guinness from the States for security reasons that PBO will drink from in the pub.

  21. Thanks for that update Amk. It is so much fun watching Obama in Moneygall. They are having a good time. Shaking so many hands. Holding so many babies. Can’t wait to see the pictures of all of this.

  22. I believe they can keep the gifts if they are under a certain value (around $500 or so).

  23. Superfical comment: First Lady Michelle’s hair is still fierce coming out of the rain, how can that be.

  24. He is out shaking more hands and kissing babies agin—I am little nervous the longer he stays around such huge albeit adoring crowds.

  25. What a change to have some of the press actually want to cover an Obama event.

  26. Suddenly no rain, sunlight.

This kenyan muslin socialist corporatist centrist does seem to be in cahoots with the gods.

  27. I am so thrilled that he was able to make it to Moneygall. They would have been so disappointed, if the weather kept the Obamas from visiting.

Thank you for covering this BWD. I have to admit that I teared up when I saw the picture with the massive crowd of people waiting to see Obama.

This is such a feel good story.

Also, I am loving that the Queen invited the Obamas to stay overnight at Buckingham Palace. That never happens and after the UK and US press losing their minds because Michelle touched the Queen last time, it was nice to see the Queen show that she liked the Obamas.

  28. The newscaster in Moneygall and so impressed with the President and first lady spending so much time with the people. They are also proud of the folks in Moneygall and so am I. I am in California and only one teevee show showed the first family in Ireland and no coverage anywhere else. I am ashamed of the U.S. media. I hate them.

  29. I heard the other day: production of oil is up, demand is down and we’re paying almost double what we paid two years ago. All because of speculation.

But by all means, let’s not even tax these bastards a 1/4 of a percent on transactions. And let’s cut their taxes even more.

    Outrageous.

  30. Oh, what a rip-off! I mean Guinness is great, but I’m sure a nice fresh keg would be even better.

I can’t believe that the coolest guy in the world is our president.

  31. The sound you just heard was a collective sigh of deep joy from all of Ireland’s citizens. I was waiting to hear two things and heard them both – they are genuine people, and the President is brilliant. The highest compliments that can be paid.
Now on to the concert, already filled to capacity with 25,000+ people.

  32. Wow, Moneygall, was great. Now on to the concert. Love that we can see all of it.

  33. Gas is down 21 cents in less than a week at some gas stations near my house. I couldn’t believe it!

  34. Nope. And it might even have been a Stateside can of Guinness they used for PBO’s pint.

  35. No, AMK, if there had been enough tickets all 4 1/2 million of us would have been there. As it was there were only enough tickets for the people in that parish, lucky devils.

  36. BWD i want to say thank you for providing in the celebration. Ihave not turned on the tv. Bless you for all you do.

  37. Livni: nut n yahoo is jeopardizing Israel’s relationship with US.

Opposition leader Tzipi Livni slammed Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Friday for “harming the relationship” between Israel and the US.

“Netanyahu spoke about consensus,” Livni said, “and if there is a consensus in Israel, it’s that the relationship with the US is essential to Israel, and a prime minister that harms the relationship with the US over something unsubstantial is harming Israel’s security and deterrence.”

“An American president that supports the two-state vision is representing Israeli interests and is not anti-Israel,” Livni said.

The only way to stop the Palestinians from unilaterally declaring statehood, Livni explained, is to have the US “convince states that plan to support the decision not to do so, but to support negotiations.”

bwd, how are you reading the situation there ? Can Livni topple this corrupt nut?

  38. Lucky devils indeed. Hope this visit makes puts their lovely village on the tourism map.

  39. I watched the news of the President’s trip to Moneygal, could not tear myself away. The fact that he took the time to greet everyone was amazing. I really do wish people in our country were this welcoming to our President. The Irish newscasters were so great I don’t even want to hear what our msm idiots were saying.
Thank you so much BWD for keeping up with PBO’s trip.

  40. 2nd all of that. It was so fun to watch—-so heartwarming, “BAH-rock” and Michelle were fantastic, charming all the people there, and I think they were thrilled as well with the red carpet welcome they received. I was grinnin’ and cryin’ the whole time. And their reporters were so impressed and grateful for the time they spent there, called his visit “a triumph” and “historic”, one the people will remember and be talking about forever.

  41. I think once again Pres. Obama will show the world who is acting small and petty, and who is genuine. I’d like to see Netanyahu visit Ireland and get a reception like this. The world is with the President.

I don’t think he will have too much difficulty getting the U.N. to stop the mostion to recognize Palestine–which, of course, is what netty wants, anyway. Thanks for trashing our President while still expecting him to do your bidding.

  42. SR,

Where are you getting this information from? As noted below, PBO gave no indication that his Guinness wasn’t from the Pub. He wouldn’t disrespect Ollie like that nor his family nor Ireland.

  43. Wow. Looking at the huge crowd in Dublin. Chants of ‘Obama, Obama’ from the yung’uns.

  44. BWD – thank you SO MUCH for this space. I’m an ex DKos’er too ..you all know why the ‘ex’. Been lurking for awhile, but decided it’s time to say hello🙂

I’m SOOOO loving the Ireland visit. I remember saying, when the President was inaugurated, ‘I hope one day we will deserve him.’ Not sure this country has yet, but it’s good to see the love from overseas.

I started researching this man the day I watched the 2004 Dem Convention and have been supporting him since before he announced. This man will go down as the best we’ve ever had. I was just a bit too young to vote for Bobby Kennedy. Since then I’d voted to the ‘better of the 2’ all my life, until Barack.

oops… ok, done… watching live in Ireland …………………… They just arrived !!!!!!!!!!

  45. Irish PM saying that visit of PBO and FLOTUS proves that Irish can arise from its present crisis. What a reception they get.

  46. PBO – I have come home to find the apostrophe we lost along way. Speaking some pidgin Irish.

  47. What I heard was that they sent someone from the company to make sure the perfect Guinness was built for the President – it’s quite a process and the company takes a lot of pride in having it done right. It wasn’t the ale itself, it was the building of the pint.

  48. I have just listened to the most awesome speech! he had incredibly clever lines in his speech. From George Washington to Fredrick Douglas and O’connor; to coming to Ireland to find his missing apostrophe’….never has a nation so small ispired another so much…wow!

    Just brilliant.

  49. This man is so incredible. We all knew he was a special man, and he is much more than we even knew. This was a very personal trip for him. He talked to all of us. I really do love him. He is not ready to leave. Oh Maureen shut up. These pundits are awlful.

  50. Just heard that the President drank the whole pint. Also that Michelle drew a couple of pints for practice, and the parish priest got one she drew and then stole the glass. I roared.

  51. Pundits are so dumb, they are wrong 9 times out of 10 but never shut up. Dowd is a joke. She used to call candidate Obama Obambi…she is such a hater….she is just jealous.

  52. John 4. 44 (Now Jesus himself had pointed out that a prophet has no honor in his own country.) 45 When he arrived in Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him. They had seen all that he had done.

In no way, am I equating PBO with Jesus, but the words are so appropriate in these times.

PBO is disrespected at home, but look how he is loved in Ireland. The Irish Prime Minister gave a terrific introduction.

The President rocks… he delivered a very uplifting speech, and he knows how to connect with people. When PBO says, “beyond the red, white and blue, there is a touch of green, the applause was deafening.

  53. I have to share these tweets from Mark Knoller, CBS White House correspondent traveling with the President. Pres.O’Bama definitely has the Irish gift of writing and speaking with his humor and intelligence. A great day for Ireland.

It’s looks and sounds like a campaign rally- thunderous cheers from thousands on College Green as the Obama’s walk on stage.

  54. hmmm BWD not “more” but maybe just as much! Can’t blame them a bit🙂

  55. The Queen loves the Obamas. Wait until you see the pics with her and our Flotus. They apparently correspond regularly and have developed a lovely relationship.

  56. Welcome to you Evora. I’m another ex-DK’er and I come here for information and to show some “love” to BWD! Thanks to her, those of us who live in reality have a place to go, learn, listen and get news and information w/out spin.
