“Obama just ate your lunch”

Bill Maher got on my nerves more times than I care to remember, but *this*? This is a masterpiece:

  1. Wow! #1 again. Believe it or not, I have a life. Happily it includes this site!

  2. The media loves President Obama when he gives them a really dramatic story to cover. Then when they get bored, they start bashing him again. That said, credit where credit is due and thanks a million to Mr. Maher for the clever narration of these events!

  3. And he’ll be eating their lunch for the next 5.5 years… and drinking their milkshake😉

  4. Pentagon releases 5 videos of obl. They’re on CNN & BBC. Nothing dramatic. Just videos of his usual ‘messages’ to US and a video watching himself on teevee.

  5. Almost gave up my HBO subscription due to Bill Maher – guess I’ll keep it a while longer!

    Yee-haw!

  6. I like that one video where the 9/11 victims spouse said Obama came to NY to give it a hug. That would have been a nice headline.

  7. I’m going to remember a few of those lines when talking with the ill informed.

  8. BBC has moved on after a few minutes of showing those videos while cnn is still putting them on a loop for the past 30 minutes with some yammering from their correspondents and experts and nothing else. Sheesh.

  9. Amen,
    and amen,
    and amen.

    Selah.

    *al-Awliki, are you watching?

  10. BWD, I loved this video. I was surfing and saw it on Democrats for Progress. It is fantastic.
    Bill at his best.

I had given up on him for the past year. This makes up for his uncool behavior. Thanks.

  11. Bill Maher can get I my nerves too, but when he is at his best..WOW! Loved this part ” Why can’t you (McCain) just admit that Barack Obama is one efficient, steely nerved, multitasking, black ninja, gangsta, President.”
Has McCain been asked about his 2008 debate answer about going into Pakistan?

  12. I feel the same way about Maher, but when he’s on he’s good. I’m glad he mentioned the”war hero” know it all McCain. Going into Pakistan to get obl was PBO’s message from day 1.

  13. WOW!

That’s just the way so many of us in AZ felt when PBO and Michelle came to Tucson after the shootings. One article I read here called our Prez, CIC (COMFORTER IN CHIEF) I wish I could remember and find the link to that. I know just how that woman feels. What a beautiful thing to say.

  14. I’ve been waiting for so long to see the meme that the GOP is “strong on national security” thoroughly discredited, that this almost feels like a dream. I love the inescapable conclusions: rather than torturing and declaring war on countries, we can prosecute campaigns against individual known terrorists as we do in so many other contexts. Bush’s war and torture policy was a #fail and I couldn’t be more delighted with people pointing that out. Indeed, credit to Maher.

  15. Bill Maher has gotten on my last nerve more than once so I never watch him. But this is just great and thanks for sharing it here, BWD.

  16. I loved that line and also when he mentioned just a few things our Prez was doing over those days.

Sometimes I can’t fathom how our Prez keeps up such a grueling schedule. I send him positive energy every day when I do my meditations.

  17. Pretty interesting to see someone like Maher appreciate President Obama only when he thinks the president behaved in a “macho” way.

Unfortunately, he’s not the only one who can’t appreciate the brilliant, sophisticated, multi-dimensional leadership of President Obama.

America seriously needs to grow up.

  18. So it sounds like a good number of former members of the Bush administration will be joined at the tonsils with the hosts of the Sunday shows tomorrow.

I can’t help but think that the networks and cable are trying their best to give the GOP “EQUAL TIME” to try and rehabilitate their disastrous 8 years. Apparently, there’s just been too much good news about President Obama. The capture of OBL, the dignified visit to NYC and then to Kentucky to personally thank the SEALS Team Six members. We can’t have that.

We know the media won’t be asked the tough questions. Like ….

    1) How is that you blame PBO for the bad decisions that you made (2 wars, two tax cuts for the rich, medicare part D, financial meltdown, recession, etc) and now you want to take credit for his leadership in capturing OBL?

    2) Why is that you blame President Clinton for 9/11 when it happened on your watch while everyones hair was on fire and you had a PDB that said OBL was determined to strike in the USA? And what about that surplus you inherited?

    3) Do you take any responsibility for the fact that your irresponsible and reckless decision to invade Iraq took away precious resources that probably prevented the capture of OBL years ago?

    4) Why was the unit created to capture OBL disbanded in 2005?

    5) Why did President Bush say on several occasions that he just didn’t think that much about OBL?

    6) Why can’t you give President Obama the credit he deserves for focusing like a laser on getting OBL and making it a top priority?

    7) After 9/11, the country rallied around President Bush. If anyone dared say anything negative about President Bush you would say they were unpatriotic and Un-American. Why have the rules changed for President Obama?

    8) Days before capturing OBL, President Obama was forced to produce his long form birth certificate because of Republican Donald Trump. Will you say this morning that the birther nonsense must stop?

We know what will happen on Fox. I don’t expect Christiane Amanpour, David Gregory or Bob Schieffer to be any better. They won’t ask the tough questions and they won’t challenge any spin, lies or distortions. I will be happy if they prove me wrong. But the only place I expect to see anything resembling journalism on Sunday is Fareed Zakaria, GPS.

    http://globalpublicsquare.blogs.cnn.com/2011/05/07/zakaria-unlikely-pakistan-knew-about-u-s-raid/

  19. Me too! I think McCain’s tactics for getting Bin Laden would have been to “bomb Iran” Sorry, but imho, McCain is a senile old geezer with apologies to geezers who still have their original brain cells.

  20. In our dreams! But I am so with you that I would love to see them asked questions like this.

  21. Couldn’t have been said better. I truly do appreciate Maher’s cleverness with this story; my fantasy is for some introspection into what is truly “weak” versus “strong.” On the part of the national media and in addition, on the part of elected Dems whose incoherence prevents the true story of this Presidency from being told accurately. Compromise=/=weak. Violence is not necessarily strength, although I accept that it is part of our lives and refuse to wring hands about obl. That would be so fantastic if people took a minute to question some of these assumptions.

  22. I would love to fax your questions to all the Sunday talking heads who will have Republicans on their shows but they will not read them or get to them. It will go in the trash because they THINK they’re so much more smarter than the average American. I don’t watch their shows because they let liars run the program. I don’t need to get up early to hear a bunch of cowardly liars.

  23. That is good news because the MSM is pretty much saying “so what” to the capture of OBL, it’s still the economy.

  24. Bill Maher is wishy-washy and I’m sure he has a lot more asshattery in him.

However, I can’t really be mad at people who are now bringing out their new-found gangsta defense of our Prez.

Men operate sometimes in primal ways, and things like military successes, taking out OBL, taking down Donald Trump…these things matter on a primitive level to the male species. It’s probably hard-wired in the DNA — part of marking territory and chest-thumping. Primal.

So, whatever, nobody can take this victory away from our President. He’s always been great. He’s always been an alpha male. It just took a spectacular event like taking down OBL for the more primal of us to get on board.

    Whatever it takes🙂.

  25. Yep. Pretty sad that for example that the expression “lead from behind” used by Jay Carney was so ridiculed. You don’t need to be constantly on the front to lead a political operation. Mr. Carney gave examples and his explanation was perfectly clear. I was disappointed that so many people didn’t get it.

  26. The phrase that comes to mind as it relates to Bill Maher, Ed Schultz and others who are now singing the praises of President Obama is:

    —————————————-
Success has a thousand fathers, but failure is an orphan.
    —————————————–

I stopped watching Bill Maher and Ed Schultz a long time ago because I thought their criticism of President Obama was out of line. The question now is how long will it take for them to go back to their nitpicking about some issue where PBO has not performed exactly to their specifications?

  27. hmm…that’s an interesting symptom of xy chromosome disease (as I blithely offend half the site); you may be on to something. I’m with lovepolitics though; I think it’s immaturity and misguided notions of strength.

  28. That Bill Maher clip was a tonic for me — I had to watch it twice! If I still smoked, I would have had a cigarette afterwards, too. :-)) Loved it!!!! And I agree with you about Fareed Zakaria.

  29. My question to Bill Maher is this: why does the President always have to be “gangsta” whatever? He is not a thug nor has he ever been one; he doesn’t associate with thugs; that is a Michelle Bachmann term she used to describe the government and by association, the head of the government; it is highly illuminating – as it goes into the cognitive thinking about this President.

I do agree with the assertion that last administration was straight “gangsta”: invading and plundering Iraq; bullying and lying the country into a needless war; bullying and fear mongering the public into obsequiousness via their implanted agents in the media; wasting the inherited surplus and creating a class warfare never seen here before; stealing elections…the list goes on and on.

Someone needs to tell Maher to get his s*it together and stop equating this President with thuggery!

  30. LOL @ “xy chromosome disease!”

Men will be men — playing sports, puffing out chests, poking and prodding, running into burning buildings, getting into pissing contests. Most never add the extra dimension and depth that our President has, but even he dressed up in a pirate’s costume as a tot🙂.

    Whatever it takes.

—-PJ (temporary media detente…enjoying the afterglow)

  31. The reason so many use the term thug to refer to PBO is because they have been drinking the koolaid of the MSM that has been portraying all black men as thugs. It’s not true, of course, but it’s taken hold over centuries, and it is used as a means to dehumanize black men. My daddy wasn’t a thug in any sense of the word. He was very much like PBO: a hardworking man, e who loved his family, was only been married to one woman, a Christian, and one who stuck around to love and raise his kids. There are millions of black male-led nuclear families, but the black males who commit the crimes are the ones who get the press attention. The others are largely ignored.

  32. OH I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT…I’M NOT THAT CRAZY ABOUT MAHER EITHER…BUT THIS…THIS IS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD! GO OBAMA 2012!!!!!!

  33. hmm…that’s an interesting symptom of xy chromosome disease

    Well, it’s a disease I can live with …

This is probably another symptom of it:

He’s a vicious f****er. First he kicks The Donald in the nuts, laughs about it, and then orders two bullets to the head of OBL. I voted for him out of hope but the second time will be out of fear.

  34. Bravo, well said!
It’s so true that the good people who daily do the job, care for their families, raise good kiddos, support their communities, and be role models for all our young people rarely get recognition.

  35. I wouldn’t be surprised if bid Laden kept the tapes of his instructions prior to 9/11 and congratulations to his followers immediately following 9/11. Human psychology would suggest that he would keep those as important personal mementos. Not that it’s necessary to find but it would help to knock down the many conspiracy theories that it wasn’t al Qaeda.

  36. As always, the gop is a day late and dollar short. The president has already moved on to energy/economy. And will be focusing on immigration reform. No one will hear what these bushies have to say.

  37. If they exist, we will find out shortly. I bet he even was running tapes of all of the coverage he could pick up (if he had satellite, I’m sure he had back then a VCR, they were getting pretty cheap even back in 2001) and saving them to listen to on a day he wasn’t feeling very triumphant. VCR tapes could be copied and burned onto CDS even back then.

Another thing-now that there will no longer be a criminal case against him, I expect that the Justice Department case file will be opened at least for September 11th, and everyone will see what we have gathered as evidence against him. The only parts that would not be released would have to do with al-Zahwahiri and Khalid Muhammad.

  38. First Lady UNI speech today. . .

  39. Thank God, that Class, Truth and Integrity can NEVER be bought.

    Our president has all 3.

No wonder, Trump, Palin, Bachmann, Fox, MSM, right wingers and TGGOPers are always underestimating this president.

    They will continue to fail.

  40. I’m sorry — Bill Maher is the worst kind of bandwagon-jumping, fair weather friend President Obama could have. Yes — this piece was good but I continue to boycott his show (along with Jon Stewart’s show) as long as they continue to crap on our President in their ignorant, feed-the-prejudices of the right-wing way . .

  41. You should watch Treme, at least. It’s awesome.
Ha…Bill Maher finally got to call POTUS a gangsta…he’s been saying he wanted to.

  42. I am with you limpidus. I am boycotting Bill Maher and Jon Stewart just like you. The only way I see videos of them is when they are posted on the internet.

The thing I liked most about the clip is that while dispensing a bit of truth, Republican David Frum is sitting to the right of Bill Maher. It must have really been uncomfortable for David but the facts are the facts. And when Bill said the Fox viewers could leave now because of the flashing “FACTS” sign at the bottom of the screen, I thought that was pretty funny.

  43. That blue fact sheet is great. It would be nice if someone in the media would show this.
But you are correct PBO will have to be hammering home the facts.

  44. Let’s all remember that tomorrow is Mother’s Day. Who the heck is going to be watching these shows?

  45. Good week for Obama and a great week for America. Trump and the GOP really look like petty, incompetent chumps. And the frustrati? I just laugh at their feeble attempts to paint Obama as a war criminal. So glad their like maybe 1-2% of the Democratic Party.

  46. I do not like Bill Maher. I turn to my other HBO channels when his show is on. He is a part of the Professional Left who dislike PBO. These folks are Edwards and Clintonites. They will never wholly accept President Obama.

…….and btw the whole Maher “Gangsta” memme is not cute, but rather RACIST!! I enjoyed his piece on the Rethugs, but his perception of PBO………AAGGGHHHH!! Read between the lines folks!! Obama/Biden 2012!!

  47. The NYT has a good post today on the current progress of the rebuilding at Ground Zero. Just as Bush didn’t actively pursue OBL, the Ground Zero project seems way behind. Hopefully the news last Sunday night will spark a renewed interest in speeding up the completion of it. The Memorial Grounds and the Memorial museum are supposed to be done this year on 9/11. (In this article right next to the number depicting the buildings description on the map is the targeted completion date for each of them.)

    http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/08/weekinreview/08marsh.html?hp

  48. Sorry, misread that. Memorial Grounds are supposed to be done this 9/11 but the Memorial Museum’s target completion date is 9/11/2012.

  49. Very good point! I originally quoted Mahr on this, thinking it was funny and “in your face,” but I think I am going to remove it from my FB page after reading your thoughtful comments.

  50. I am going back to my habit of posting a few great sound bytes of our President each day.

Since Ms Obama wowed em at UNI – lets hear the President WOW Miami dade one more time.

  51. http://www.aquariusmoon.info/whitehouse/2011/05/07/first-videos-from-osamas-vault/

War criminal? It just occurred to me: one thing that may have tranformed the mission from capture to kill was the downing of that chopper and the time needed to handle that. With an extra chopper, they could have afforded a couple extra minutes to airlift his family and him to custody because they wouldn’t have had a burning chopper alerting the security agencies that something was going on. Without extra time, they could not afford the time to struggle to subdue him.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if he had been secretly tried in absentia: such a procedure would be taken for someone who was simply too elusive to ever capture. If that were the case, then what happened would fall under punishment rather than capture.

  52. Wow, what a clip. Obama is #2 on my list of the greatest oral speakers, MLK Being #1.

  53. Hey, Keith C-bus, Ohio we hail from the same city and state.

    BUCKEYES in the house!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  54. “Thursday, in a little-noticed move, the House of Representatives “passed legislation Thursday that would require the U.S. government to offer up offshore areas for oil and gas leasing,” with all but two Republicans and 33 Democrats voting for the bill”.

“During a hearing of the Joint Economic Committee hearing yesterday, Rep. Michael Burgess (R-TX) claimed that the vote was responsible for Thursday’s sharp drop in oil prices. “What happened yesterday?” the congressman asked rhetorically. “Oh, the House passed a bill“

    http://thinkprogress.org/2011/05/07/burgess-oil-prices-fell/

  55. “Senate Republicans have introduced legislation to abolish the Environmental Protection Agency, established 40 years ago by President Richard Nixon to give Americans clean air and water. The bill, introduced by Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC), would merge the EPA, which enforces environmental laws, with the Department of Energy, which manages nuclear energy and energy research, into one department.”

“Burr’s statement announcing his bill to eliminate the EPA argues that “duplicative functions” can be eliminated, even though the two departments are completely different….”

  56. “Attorney General Eric Holder vacated a deportation order Thursday for a man who, if he were married to a woman rather than in a civil union with a man, would likely be eligible to remain in the country.”

“Holder announced he would use his discretion to ask the Board of Immigration Appeals to reconsider the application of New Jersey resident Paul Wilson Dorman to stay in the country, and to determine whether his deportation order was based on the Defense of Marriage Act, a 1996 law that bans same-sex marriages.”

  57. “Osama bin Laden stayed in touch with his al-Qaida network from his Pakistan safe house and continued to plot potential terrorist attacks, including one against the US railway system, according to early analysis of files seized when he was killed.”

    //

“As late as February last year he seemingly took part in drawing up a previously unknown plot to attack a US commuter rail network, possibly on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks or another landmark date such as Christmas or new year, intelligence officials told US newspapers.”

    //

“….Before the raid some analysts speculated that he had become an increasingly marginalised figure during his long presumed exile in remote tribal regions along the Afghan border.”

  58. I’d like to have a SundayShow-free day tomorrow. No belly-aching about the republicans trying to claim credit. How about we just talk about Mothers and Motherhood or something nice tomorrow? We got one fine fine Mother in the White House.

  59. “Al-Qaida has confirmed the death of its leader, Osama bin Laden, and vowed vengeance, pledging in a statement posted on militant websites that his blood ‘will not be wasted'”.

“In what is apparently the first official reaction from the militant Islamist group since Bin Laden was gunned down by US special forces troops who raided his hideout in the Pakistani town of Abbottabad, the group called on the people of Pakistan, “where Sheik Osama was killed”, to rise up against their leaders.”

“The group would soon release an audio message from Bin Laden recorded a week before his death, said the statement, dated 3 May and signed by “the general leadership of al-Qaida”. There was no independent confirmation that the message was authentic but it was posted on websites through which al-Qaida habitually issues statements.”

  61. “One of the most senior Saudi Arabian Islamist extremist has surrendered to local authorities, becoming the first known such figure to give himself up following the death of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.”

“Officials at Saudi Arabia’s interior ministry said Khaled Hathal al-Qahtani, who figured high on a list of 47 most-wanted terrorists recently issued by Riyadh and had been linked to al-Qaida by Interpol, had given himself up earlier this week.”

“The news will cheer security services around the world, especially in the US, who were hoping that the killing of bin Laden would deter aspiring militants and discourage active terrorist operators.”

“However experts said it was unlikely the death of the al-Qaida leader was a factor in al-Qahtani’s decision. There have been quite a few similar cases. It’s more likely due to other reasons. Family pressures often play a very significant role,” said Thomas Hegghammer, an expert at the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment and author of Jihad in Saudi Arabia.”

  62. You are so right, Tien Le. Sending out much love in advance to ALL mothers. Hope you have a great day!

“You can’t help but tear up watching this video montage of young women making motherhood work and demonstrating love and commitment to their offspring from Strong Families Now. (h/t Feministing).” (Excerpt courtesy of Sarah Seltzer. AlterNet. Posted on Saturday, May 7, 2011 @ 09:06 AM)

  63. Love it! If we do that I will tell my story about my Mama and ‘plastic Jesus’ I would really enjoy sharing that. It’s a special story about a special woman with some lol’s.

  64. Getting Bin Laden DOES matter. And it matters more than some folks understand.

The truth is that there are plenty of people just as willing to commit acts of evil as Bin Laden. But it takes a type of evil genius, dark charisma, and yes, vision to separate a garden variety evil henchman from the truly dangerous, inspirational leaders.

Osama Bin Laden WAS a type of terrorist leader that the world had never seen before. We’ve seen brilliant terrorists before, but never one with the global vision, the education, and yes the charisma to build a movement capable of such large ideas and operations.

Al Queda, or whoever they are, can replace their #2 every day (which they seem to do!) but they can’t replace Bin Laden. And that matters.

    AND, TO MICHAEL MOORE:

Meet David Reed Gamboa Brandhorst http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=5946487

He was just 3 years old when the plane he was on became the 2nd to slam into the WTC that day.

He was 3 years old. He was the same age as my son, at the time.

He was born in 1998, 1 DAY PRIOR to my son’s birth. He even looks a little like my boy did at that age.

I cried over this little boy after 9/11, as I could imagine my own son on that plane, being scared and comforted by his father(s).

I’ve never forgotten him. And it’s people like Michael Moore who give liberals a bad name. It’s people like Michael Moore who make us, people who actually want to cut defense spending and pray for the end of war, look like boobs.

    Moore, you’re as idiot.

  65. CORRECTION: I meant to say;

    Moore, you’re AN idiot.

    or…

Moore, you’re ASS idiot will do as well.

  66. LadyHawke, that’s why, like WiW and other ‘TOAITR’ family members have suggested, WE have to keep up the “contact ’em” campaign…Push back against the U.S mainstream media’s BS…

WE gotta “hold ’em accountable!” (That goes for the GOPTeaParty, BlueDogs (in the House), Conservadems (in the Senate), and those supposedly progressive/liberal Dems who go astray!)

http://www.whatisworking.com/2011/01/email-addresses.html (WE gotta get the names and addresses of the shows’ producers.)

  67. According to the AP: Although Al Qaeda has confirmed Osama’s death, they DID NOT name a successor.

They say Ayman al-zawahiri is much less charismatic than Osama, and is actually unpopular among many parts of the terrorist organization.

Yippee. It couldn’t happen to more horrible group of people. Here’s hoping Al Qaeda goes the way of Myspace. (What, too soon?)

  68. They just keep looking for soundbites that have surface meanings to them. Then they use something they think can be used to ridicule PBO. Sarah Palin is a master at that kind of game.

  69. CONSERVATIVE MEDIA BIAS: BUSH OFFICIALS OUTNUMBER OBAMA 6 to 1 ON SUNDAY SHOWS:

The Sunday morning talk shows are fully embracing their conservative media bias by celebrating the one week anniversary of the death of Bin Laden with shows chocked full of Republican guests.

Here is this week’s Sunday talk show guest line up by program:

Meet the Press (NBC): Tom Donilon, Michael Chertoff, Rudy Giuliani, Michael Hayden

Fox News Sunday (Fox): Tom Donilon, Dick Cheney

This Week (ABC): Tom Donilon, Condoleeza Rice, Husain Haqqani. Panel: Liz Cheney, Tom Ricks, Lawrence Wright

Face the Nation (CBS): Sen. Kerry, Donald Rumsfeld

State of the Union (CNN): Tom Donilon, Sen. Lugar, Anita Dunn, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Tom Davis
    .
    .
There is no such thing as liberal media bias. Any liberalism in the media died when our news gathering and reporting apparatus became corporatized and profitized. The media is now run by conservatives for the purpose of presenting the conservative narrative.

President Obama got Osama Bin Laden and the Sunday morning talk shows will celebrate by holding a party for the Bush administration. Obama may have gotten Osama, but the Sunday morning talk shows are going to do their best to make sure Bush gets all the credit.

Welcome to the seedy never discussed underbelly of conservative media bias.

    http://www.politicususa.com/en/obama-conservative-media-bias

  70. I think it was Bob Scheiffer that was questioning Donald Trump’s attacks as racist. He seemed to be the only one defending PBO when Trump expanded his argument to PBO’s grades.

  71. What makes PBO truly great is his critical thinking skills needed for intelligent decisions instead of making decisions based on political expediency or primal instincts. He also approaches problems with ambassadorial methods. I think he is a great statesman which to me is elevated above a politician.

  72. I am really sick and tired of the Sunday lineup! Six to one!!! What can the republicans tell me? they are not the ones who got Osama!!

We need to do a media bomb!!

  73. If we had to have endured a trial we would have been hearing he cannot be brought to the USA for trial as it would be too dangerous. We may have even had reprisals and threats to release him or face anihilation.

  74. I guess that some folks have not risen out of the stereotypical black male, as highlighted negatively and daily, even in today’s world. AND, they still cannot get over the fact that a black articulate bright man can have values, principles and qualities that are honourable.
I guess many people have not travelled enough and have not been exposed to the world at large and other cultures, in order to embrace other’s differences.Therein lies the problem.
It always strikes me the reason that the Prez is so well-rounded is because he was exposed to different cultural value systems when growing up. Believe you me, it really makes a difference in a person’s life, and this is the thing that makes him stand out even more.

  76. Like Darnell, I’ve become particularly upset with the few PLs who have chosen to act out during this moment of national unity and issue ridiculous accusations with regards to bin Laden’s killing, mainly because of the victims (omg@that three year old and his dads). I found that laughter cuts through the upset as I remember to not take these people so seriously. Here’s a great piece doing just that: http://www.rumproast.com/index.php/site/comments/will_obama_murder_bradley_manning_next/

Also, progressweekly is updated for people to share with less junkie-types. Have a great Saturday evening everyone!

  77. That would be great! I hope that bwd considers running two threads: one for that media analysis and a pundit-free mother’s day option. Love that idea tien le!

  79. We’ll just hope no one will be watching due to it being Mother’s Day. Maybe they will be at Mom’s place or taking her out that day. I want to wish you all a Happy Mothers Day. We can watch 60 Minutes Sunday evening to see our President.

  80. “My question to Bill Maher is this: why does the President always have to be “gangsta” whatever? “

    That’s my question as well.
That shit bugs me. I still can’t stand Maher. It’s nice he threw a few kind words vs his usual, over-the-top criticism but I will always remember how unbelievably visceral he was towards our president. IMO Maher is an asshole and I won’t be forgiving his words any time soon.

  81. I’m where you are darnell. It goes without saying that my preference would have been a trial at the Hague for bin Laden followed by a permanent residence in prison. But I just can’t sit here and wring my hands over him, because of the reasons which you cited.

  82. I am the most disappointed in Christiane Amanpour. I really liked her reporting from the field on CNN; as a host, she’s awful.

  83. I find this utterly repulsive. It just makes me want to take a shower. There is really something twisted and sick about the spectacle of them going on the Sunday shows. Why do we need to hear from the Bush administration when they got everything wrong? With their track record, you would think they would be doing everything to avoid bringing attention to their total incompetence.

Sadly, the Republican Party has no shame, they can not be embarrassed. They bungled the job of going after OBL and now they think THEY should be getting credit for the leadership displayed by President Obama. And then on top of that they have the nerve to criticize President Obama for his dignified visit to ground zero.

Meanwhile, all you have to do is just imagine what would be happening if the roles were reversed. President Bush and the Republicans would be strutting around like peacocks. And anyone who dared say anything negative would have been pounced on and called unpatriotic and Un-American in a heartbeat. They would be the first to say this is no time for partisanship. Their hypocrisy is just breathtaking.

  84. Thanks, gn…

    A laugh can be medicinal!

And, I enjoy your blog; you’ve done a great job w/it.

  85. Thanks, Marlz…

POTUS and FLOTUS deserve this particular “date night”…

It’s has been a very, very busy week for both.

Happy Mother’s Day to FLOTUS and all mothers in the world!🙂

  86. These are the same folks who are still whining about the fact that (in their minds) President Obama didn’t fight hard enough for the public option. Never mind that he accomplished something that about 5 presidents had tried to do before him. Forget about the 80% that he got. Since they itch to (you know) they will only focus on the 20% he didn’t get.

  87. Actually, my favorite part of Maher’s show on Friday was Jeremy Scahill’s slap down of David Frum. Just the facts, with a good dose of passion.

  88. hey bjw2…………Buckeyes in the house!! GO BUCKS!!🙂

  89. Doing all they can to fulfill their pulled-out-of-their-behinds meme that Obama is really Bush I.

    God.

  90. SIGH, Thank God McCain, Palin, or Bush are not president right now. We would be invading Pakistan after a threatening letter like that. Obama/Biden 2012!!

  91. Our President cannot do everything alone; it takes a village…

Maybe during one of her shows, Maddow may show it.

But, WE have to do our part, too…SPREAD THE WORD, PASS IT ON!

And, then, there’s the Congressional Dems; they need to do their job!

If they don’t, then, WE need to do this:

Go to http://www.congress.org, and tell your Congress members what you want for America and the American people!

  92. Exactly limpidus. Read my post above about Bill Maher. All of the so called Progressive pundits in the media are in line with the Rightwing Racist and Zealots with their daily DIATRIBE attacking PBO. It is disgusting. Its a no wonder PBO’s approval ratings aren’t in the 30’s seeings how he has virtually NO friendly faces in the media. His re-election is going to be totally on our shoulders and any of the spineless Democratic legislators who would find it in their heart to be mouthpieces for the administration. Here’s praying our President isn’t alone during his quest for re-electon. Obama/Biden 2012!!

  93. My pleasure…

I know where it is. lol

And, once people know about it, it will “take off!”

  94. gn – Very well done! Just signed up. Keep up the good work – it’s a masterful representation of all that’s accomplished week after week after week by our great President, and how pragmatic progressives really feel about it.

  95. The First Lady looks wonderful in those photos and (I think) I like the President’s “new” jacket!

  96. Great Story from Yahoo News

Analysis: Reimagining Obama after gutsy raid

“WASHINGTON – It was just a firehouse chat with the guys of Engine 54 in lower Manhattan. But President Barack Obama delivered a message he hopes will also hit home with every American in this week of national catharsis: “You’re always going to have a president and an administration who’s got your back.”

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110506/ap_on_an/us_reimagining_obama_analysis

  97. I thought of another comparison🙂

Bush sent hundreds of thousands of troops into two countries and couldn’t find Bin Laden. Obama sent a handful of troops into one house and decapitated Al Qaeda.

  98. Majii, I always love the way you speak TRUTH! I believe that any one who honestly studies the history of this country will agree that Black men are the most maligned, and the most feared, group of people in the U.S.

  99. That is all I will be doing tomorrow: honoring mothers in my life. I absolutely will not waste my time to listen to Dick Cheney, Liz Cheney, Don Rumsfeld, and Condi Rice. I know they have been booked, by the hateful MSM, to rain on President Obama parade.

  100. Spot-on Darnell! Equally important, in addition to his “education, Charisma, and vision,” OBL had tons of money to finance his diabolical schemes. OBL chose to “live by the sword” and “he died by the sword.” For me, people like MM and GG, are nothing but armchair critics who risk nothing, but expect to benefit from their bashing of the President.

President Obama put his presidency on the line by authorizing the high risk plan to take out OBL. If the plan had failed, I would still be here supporting him. But I am equally sure that MM and GG would be out there, leading mobs, to demonize him as a weak and failed President.

I am sorry to say, but I’ve absolutely no use for spoiled rich people, like MM and GG, who attack everything this President does, while pretending to care more for the human rights of a war criminal like OBL.

  101. Thanks ladyhawke for linking to this story. I hope this finally debunks the conservative myth of a “liberal (MSM) news media.” By the way this is nothing new. When George W. Bush was president they always booked more Republicans than Democrats. Their argument then: Republicans were in control of government. Ever since President Obama has been in office, they still book more Republicans than Democrats. I don’t know how they are now justifying this, but any one with open eyes can’t miss their conservative biases.

  102. Well said Mariz! I think what the MSM want to tell you is that it’s Bush’s policies, not Obama’s policies and actions, that made it possible to get Osama.

In other words, they want all of us to turn off our brains and believe what they say and not what we clearly know, and fully understand, was done. For example: I read a comment, at “politicususa,” by someone who was thankful that President Obama “followed” President Bush’s policy and tactics that enabled him to get OBL.

Any one who doubts that the MSM is advancing the Republican right wing agenda needs to see the skewed line up of guests appearing MSM’s Sunday shows, which favors Republicans over Democrats 6 to 1. Does any here remember Al Gore being invited on NBC’s MTP to comment on Bush’s response to the Al Qaida threats that resulted in 9/11? Why, in the world, is the MSM inviting Dick Cheney, Liz Cheney, Don Rumsfeld, Condi Rice, and other Bush administration officials, to comment on President Obama’s actions?

  103. GN, your blog is really wonderful! I think it will attract people who are busy and want quick summation of what is going on. I intend to spread the word.

  104. That is it in a nut shell SAWells! There really was no need to kill millions of Iraqis just to get Bin Laden, or, for that matter, Saddam Hussein! There was Absolutely no need, or justification, to sacrifice the lives of thousands of young Americans, and countless Iraqi and Afghan people, if Bush had focused, laser-like, on getting the people who carried out the 9/11 atrocities. Moreover, the country would have avoided spending trillions of dollars to conduct these wars and it would not be in the financial crunch it’s in.

  105. I was with Bill M until ninja, which he used earlier in the week on Joy B’s show. Then it was simply “multi-tasking ninja,” from what I read, making the usage unclear. If you don’t know what I mean, trust that Bill M would.

  106. I am proud to have him as our president. I’m proud of the service of the men he sent in and the rest of the military for getting us to this point.

  107. Poor AG Holder, “his plate IS just as full” as PBHO’s…😦

And, because durin’ the Bush Era, the DOJ was “gutted,” “defunded,” “demanned” (Is there such a word? lol), and “burrowed” (w/Bushies), it makes doin’ his job, like it is for PBHO, that much harder! (Of course, other federal agencies were done the same way!)

At the local/state/federal-level, that’s another reason why WE have to retake the House, retain the Senate (increase majority), and keep the White House…A Fight against TeaPublican Extremism/Radicalism…Solidarity 2 Defend Democracy!

Once that happens the Congressional Dems need to do their job.

Look what’s happenin’ in the midwest (WI, MI, OH, et al) and the south (AZ, FL, TX, et al): (In the south, I’m not speakin’ of the tornado/flood devastation.)
