Happy birthday, dear first lady

President Obama, along with others, sings ‘Happy Birthday’ to First Lady Michelle Obama as their daughters Malia and Sasha look on as they arrive to take part in a community service project at Stuart Hobson Middle School in celebration of the Martin Luther King, Jr. day of service in Washington, DC, on January 17, 2011.

  1. Happy birthday, Mrs. Obama (and as my grandmother always added) and many more of them!

  2. I am off to clean my computer, I will be off for a while, Maintenance.
    Take Care everyone.

  3. LOVE their smiles! FLOTUS is the best and I wish her all the love and joy she so fully deserves. An incredibly gorgeous family in every single way.

  4. It amazes me that this family can take time out of their schedule to work in the community amongst the people while the haters go on televsion to complain about what hasn’t been done. If this isn’t what Dr. King was talking about then what is it?

  5. Happy Birthday to our lovely First Lady!! Can’t wait to see her new dress for the Chinese State dinner! 🙂

  6. Happy Birtday, Mrs. Obama!

Thank you for lending us your husband to lead our nation these four years.

Many happy returns of the day to you, and to your family.

  7. Dear First Lady, Michelle Obama,

The old adage “Beauty is as Beauty does” aptly describes you. Have a blessed and happy birthday.

  8. May GOD ALMIGHTY continue to richly bless Michelle OBAMA with wisdom, grace, favor, happiness, health, strength, love, and protection in the Mighty Name of JESUS! Amen!!!

  9. Happy Birthday to our amazing, beautiful, intelligent, caring, classy First Lady.

May all the days of your new year be filled with strength, love, inspiration, delight, respect, and grace.

Thank you for all the gifts that you bring to a struggling nation.

  10. I was just trying to imagine old George and Laura doing something like this. Never in a billion years would it happen. We are so lucky.

  11. I love the example the First Family sets in working together on service projects that give back to the community. And they do this consistently, not just as a one-off. Mrs. Obama is very blessed to be able to celebrate her birthday this way!

Happy birthday to the First Lady!

  12. Michelle looks like she is tickled at Barack singing to her. She is thoroughly enjoying this. They are so precious and cute together. Happy Birthday, Dear First Lady Obama and many, many more!

  13. Yeah, a real demon our President is, isn’t he? The best example of a Public Servant we have. He should be an inspiration to every American of every walk of life.

Cornell West, it may be bourgeois to you, but the Obama family is the epitome of MLK’s dream: middle class people working hard for their education, giving back to their community and their country, and teaching their children to do the same.

  14. Happy Birthday FLOTUS. I am so proud of you. You are an inspiration and a role model. My admiration for you knows no bounds. Bottom line, you are loved!

  15. Love seeing the “room brightening” smile again! Happy B-Day, FLOTUS!

I was hoping to see photos from their CS work today – knew they would be involved. Thanks, BWD.

  16. Looking at these pictures is just so inspiring.

With all due respect to President & First Lady Kennedy…The enduring image of this Presidency is so much more important than one like ‘Camelot’ IMO (and I believe it was hoisted upon the Kennedy’s more than they chose it) because it’s so much more attainable and instructive for the entire country.

    Just fabulous!

  17. Thanks BWD. Happy Birthday FLOTUS. You do us all proud. And, what a beautiful family!

We are all blessed to have this First Family. God Bless them all.

  18. Happy Birthday, Georgous Michelle! Don’t let POTUS off the hook, you deserve a special night out:)

  19. Happy Birthday Michelle Obama!

♥ to you for coming to Tucson on Wednesday. Your loving presence was a comfort to all of us.

  20. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Mrs. Obama. Thank you for all you do and all the sacrifices you have made so that we can have the best President ever. You are in my thoughts every day. I love you!

  21. A-men, Faith… And I, too, say, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our First Lady, Michelle Obama!!!

  22. Happy B-day on MLK Day, Mrs. Obama. I’m sure Mr. President will find a way to give you birthday greetings with more than just his endearing attempt to sing to you …

  23. Thank you First Lady Michelle for serving our country with such absolute grace, beauty, humility and nurturing..
    Have a FABULOUS Birthday~

  24. Hey Hon

Still bathing in lemon heaven thanks to you 🙂

I’m out of the loop. Tell me about this dinner, s’il vous plait.

  25. Our First Lady is smart, beautiful, strong and so loving. I send her blessings and birthday congratulations as well as my appreciation for the incredible job she is doing as First Lady. I am so grateful for this loving family.

  26. Happy Birthday to a truly great lady, Michelle Obama. Wishing you much happiness and continued success….. particularly with your efforts to make the public more aware of childhood obesity. Together we can make this happen as with all changes that are needed.

  27. @obamafoodorama.com: Happy Birthday To First Lady Michelle Obama

Mrs. Obama’s busy birthday week: A local service project, some international diplomacy, and a game-changing announcement about America’s foodscape…
Birthday wishes are due First Lady Michelle Obama, who turns 47 today. As part of the national Day of Service to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Mrs. Obama will today join President Obama in a local service project. It’s the start of a very busy week for the First Lady. (Above: Last year, East Wing staffers presented Mrs. Obama with a birthday cake created by Executive Pastry Chef Bill Yosses)

On Wednesday, after a colorful and traditional South Lawn Arrival Ceremony welcoming China’s President Hu Jintao to the White House for a State Visit, Mrs. Obama will take her own star turn in the diplomatic spotlight. During a morning visit to Howard University, Mrs. Obama will deliver remarks to a group of high school and college students to discuss the State Visit and the importance of young Americans engaging people around the world and studying abroad.

In the evening, the President and Mrs. Obama will host the State Dinner in President Hu’s honor.

On Thursday, Mrs. Obama will join business leaders and unveil a new initiative “impacting food formulation, availability and affordability.” Call it an incredible birthday gift from Mrs. Obama to America; the project is huge, according to an ObFo source. It could profoundly and fundamentally alter the nation’s foodscape. Mrs. Obama was originally scheduled to make the announcement last week, but delayed it in deference to the tragic events in Tucson, Arizona. Stay tuned…

    “Happy Birthday” & Hymns
Last year, President Obama threw his wife a surprise early birthday dinner party at DC’s Restaurant Nora, but there was no birthday outing this weekend. Except for church, that is.

The entire First Family made a Sunday morning visit to Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church, a historic African American church a few blocks from the White House. There, they marked the holiday in honor of Dr. King, as they participated in the entire service, led by Revs. Ronald and Marie Braxton. After, the hundreds of worshipers joined together to sing “Happy Birthday” to the First Lady. Mrs. Obama stood up and, smiling, waved to the congregation.

    Again, Happy 47th B-Day, Mrs. O 😉

  28. Happy Birthday FLOTUS Michelle Obama.

Today life celebrates you, as do I and millions of others. My wish for you, is that the many ways in which you have blessed this nation, that those blessings are returned to you tenfold.

You are truly admired and loved.

Live long and strong, and may God always bless and protect you.

  29. Off-topic, but all good news should be reported.

“Doctors have successfully operated on shot congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords’ eye socket to remove bone fragments as she continues to show more signs of improvement.
They said there were no complications from the surgery and Ms Giffords is improving so much that she was able to give her husband a pat on the back.”

    She may have smiled.

  30. Happy Birthday FLOTUS Michelle Obama. Many blessings for you on your birthday and throughout the year. Thank you and your husband for giving so much of yourselves to help the people in your community, and this country.

  31. Thanks so much for your heads up and the link. I have been so happy about all the great work Michelle Obama has been doing to promote healthy eating and growing our own fruits and veggies.

I was part of the groups urging her to take up this cause. I received such a lovely letter from her after President Obama was elected. Watching her plant the WH gardens just brought me to tears. She is a tremendous First Lady and an incredible asset to our whole country.

  32. She was not only patting his back but rubbing it and all reports here are that she is continuing to improve daily.

Keep holding her in your healing thoughts.

  33. Happy birthday to our wonderful First Lady. These pictures of this wonderful family doing what they love-helping others-are the highlight of my day.

  34. Happy, happy birthday. May God keep you and your family save. Know that you are loved and appreciated!!!!!

  35. It’s the 3rd official state dinner! With guest of honor President Hu.
My bet is that she’ll wear something red as a nod to the fact that Red is considered a lucky color. She always looks great in dark colors. 🙂

  36. I have to add that, my, this lady puts me to shame in my 30s and she’s almost 50! Just gorgeous, like Halle Berry looking half her age yet with the wisdom which comes with being in the 40s. Couldn’t set a finer example for this country.

  37. It’s amazing, but several members of this administration have the most striking smiles I’ve ever seen. I just love to look at it. Ditto re: jacqueline’s avatar.

  38. Happy Birthday FLOTUS, my Republican mother-in-law
thinks you are the greatest thing since sliced bread. I agree, you are wonderful and such a shining example to all of us!

  39. Happy Birthday and many more. I pray that the president and your family keep up the good work you have my vote
