First family to be proud of

  1. Thank you, BWD.

I like seeing the President from the many perspectives you post here.
It is such a nice contrast to see him concentrating on painting something yellow, the color of sun light, after a week in which we all watched him dealing with darkness and death

  2. I wonder if anyone shares the mixed feelings I have when I see the Sasha and Malia.

They are such beautiful young women!

But they are growing up so fast!!!

  3. They’re just good people. I wish I could write all the things that President Obama and the First Family represent for me.. I just can’t really articulate it all. I will say that invariably when I read comments here at your site bwd- nearly every thing I think and feel is ultimately written by a commentor(s) in far more clear and beautiful terms that I could have done. I’m so grateful you created this wonderful spot.. and I’m so grateful that slowly but surely our President is getting his due for the good he has accomplished in a mere two years. As long as we keep showing the facts, more folks will begin to see with their own eyes.

I hope you all have had a lovely MLK day.

  4. It’s amazing really, to have this example of service coming from the office of the President of the United States.
Sometimes… it just knocks my socks off. I have to pinch myself.
    Beyond words.

  5. I was just noting today that little sasha was barely waist-high at the inauguration, and now she’s almost shoulder-high only two years later! Malia was Sasha’s height today at the inauguration. Time flies!

  6. I also love that the Obama’s are highlighting work with teenagers.

I hate to say it – but its tough work, and yet SO important.

I remember noticing how the Obama’s didn’t shy away from this age group when early on in the administration Michelle invited a whole roomful of local middle schoolers to the White House for Black History month.

A lot of people think that would be a tough crowd. But they crave our attention just as much as the little ones do.

  7. Thank you as always, BWD. Seems I can’t stop by without tearing up, and today is no exception. To say we at our house are proud of the first family is such an understatement, they are beautiful through and through and represent everything that I love about America. We are one Black and one White and one Brown, and we are older, so sometimes we imagine that The President is an age that he could be our child?

We saw them in Tucson last Wednesday night, and the amount of Love given and received was astounding. I heard echoes of Dr. King in his words, though he is his own unique person, a call to service, a call to heal, a call to come together, to Love.

I want to let my BWD friends know that at 6pmPST (2 hours from now) I will start a three part series on Tucson at BPI Campus, another part of the Pragmatic Progressive scene. If you have time and are so inclined, I would love to chat with you these next three evenings. (BWD has told me to feel free to let people know when I write..”pimp” my diary)

  8. I often find myself with a silly grin on my face whenever I am watching the first family on T.V. or with pictures such as these.

It’s like breathing clean air,you feel as though you can never get enough.

One of the things I hope will impact positvely on african americans, especially the men – is to see a strong, black father – in the President, just loving on his wife and family.

    It fills me up to be able to say – yes,there are still strong african american families around;

    and yes,there are still strong,good african american men around;

and yes, there are still many educated, achieving african americans who make up this beautiful America.

Thank God for you and your family Mr President.

    Thank you BWD.

  9. Heyyyyyyyy everyone, so nice to read all your great comments.

Thank God for you BWD, I just love It here. This Is a nice place to hang out. Great Hospitality, & a great Hostess.

Yes, I too just get a great big kick outta watching our First Family. And Malia & Sasha are growing so nicely, & Is looking so much like their Parents. When the four of them are together, they each look like each other Lol.

Glad to know that you’re feeling better revgerry 🙂 Okay, I’ll chat at you later, & do take care 🙂

  10. And a High FIve to OFA for organizing a “day of service” in honour of MLK, and inspired by an email from Michelle Obama. So many in NY, including me, and the OFA volunteer I spoke with was as psyched as she could be at the turn-out. GO TEAM!

  11. Wow. I did not know of the connection – Mrs Obama’s letter, the OFA, and culminating like this.

My sister and I were musing today – if it had been G Bush having to present the Memorial…how fortunate this country, this world is to have our POTUS.

I so appreciate being able to share this day with my BWD friends.

And now to head to The Weather Channel. Apparently NE is going to be hit by another storm…

  12. He love our First Lady and our First Daughters so lovingly. We can see the love that he has for all of us because it is so real when we see them working together and greeting people in the room and helping. This is just not a photo-op for him. He loves this, and we love them. Thank you Mr. President and our First Family.

  13. Tomorrow – I’m off to phone bank @ OFA to push against repealing
    healthcare and going backwards. 🙂

  14. I just read this at the OFA website, maybe we can use it for the ObamaCares website.

•Obama cares if insurance companies can once again be able to drop people when they get sick — exactly when coverage is needed most.

•Obama cares if children with preexisting conditions are denied coverage, while insurance companies impose devastating annual and lifetime caps.

•Obama cares that young people stay on their parents’ plans until age 26.

•Obama cares if pregnant women and breast cancer survivors can be denied coverage.

•Obama cares if seniors face an increase in their prescription drug costs — millions thrown back into the Medicare Part D Donut Hole — denying seniors a 50% discount on prescription drugs and re-creating the devastating coverage gap.

•Obama cares if health care repeal explodes the federal deficit by143 billion over the next ten years and1 trillion over the next two decades.

  15. They are so ADORABLE together. Look at the embarrassed, happy grin on her face, and once again there he is with the loving impish smile. Such a cute family. The girls are beautiful.

  16. Remember that time Dubya did a photo op for something like reconstruction of homes after Katrina? He was filmed holding a hammer and you could tell he was very uncomfortable and not quite sure what to do with it. He even choked up on the top of the handle while trying to drive a nail, a sure sign he had no idea how to hammer. Obama doesn’t look like a handyman, but he looks like a guy who’s comfortable with being asked to pitch in and help color in wall decorations or serve dinners or assemble things. Probably all that “useless” community service time he spent as a community organizer. Plus, I imagine his time as a Baskin-Robbins worker probably means he can scoop a mean bowl of ice cream – even though he won’t eat it himself.

  17. Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama’s approval rating is up five points since December as a growing number of Americans consider him a strong leader who is tough enough to handle a crisis, according to a new national poll. A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Tuesday also indicates that a jump in support by independent voters is behind the overall rise in the president’s approval rating.

Fifty-three percent of people questioned in the poll approve of how Obama’s handling his duties in the White House, up from 48 percent in a CNN poll that was conducted last month, as a very productive lame duck congressional session was nearing completion.

“Obama’s approval rating among Democrats and Republicans is virtually unchanged since December, but among independents it has grown from 41 percent in December to 56 percent now,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

For two centuries, America’s free market has not only been the source of dazzling ideas and path-breaking products, it has also been the greatest force for prosperity the world has ever known. That vibrant entrepreneurialism is the key to our continued global leadership and the success of our people.

But throughout our history, one of the reasons the free market has worked is that we have sought the proper balance. We have preserved freedom of commerce while applying those rules and regulations necessary to protect the public against threats to our health and safety and to safeguard people and businesses from abuse.

From child labor laws to the Clean Air Act to our most recent strictures against hidden fees and penalties by credit card companies, we have, from time to time, embraced common sense rules of the road that strengthen our country without unduly interfering with the pursuit of progress and the growth of our economy.

  20. You guys in the USA have got something really special in this family and by extension, this President.Thank you, BWD, for what you are doing via this blog. Negative news is what keeps the ratings up for the news stations & papers – they’ll only ever throw in a tidbit of good stuff when they sense the public is suffocating sick of their tactics, and even then they’ll make some sarcastic remark to show that they were being forced to seem sincere. The naysayers feed their venom and vice versa.
To those of you who are adamant that you will be the glimmer of hope in your nation, I salute you. Continue to pray for your wonderful President and leaders (even the saboteurs – they too have their part and make no mistake … God is NOT dead, deaf or blind). Remember that there are more for you than against you, despite what some of your own are desperately trying to portray.

God bless you! God bless America!

  21. Birthday Date Night: An organic, locally sourced feast to mark Mrs. Obama’s 47th; she’s celebrated at the restaurant before…
President Obama escorted First Lady Michele Obama to Wolfgang Puck’s Asian fusion fine dining restaurant The Source on Monday night, for an intimate celebration of her 47th birthday. The special Date Night Dinner, the first of 2011, came hours after the First Family painted food art on the walls of a cafeteria at a local middle school, to mark the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service in honor of the legendary civil rights leader.

  22. So, Cheney says POTUS will be a one term PRESIDENT, despite being at 54% approval in the new abc poll!
What is cheney saying: a new jedi mind trick, or something?

  23. I definitely share your feelings about the Obama girls — which is the same way I feel about my 15-year-old daughter! To all three of them I want to say “You’re so beautiful, so smart, so gracious and grounded, and now — stop growing!!” Malia and Sasha are truly a tribute to their wonderful parents. Love this video.

  24. I saw that – and I almost threw up! Ugh why he can’t keep his mouth shut is beyond me. Because they give him this air of gravitas, and he’s a complete idiot who has been proven wrong time and time again.

I’m sorry even in this new era of civility, every time that man opens his mouth, I want to throw a banana cream pie at him.

  25. (This is RICH):

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s office is taking credit for a key idea President Obama has announced: Reviewing business regulations that could hinder any economic growth.

Obama announced in an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday that he’ll sign an executive order requiring an examination of rules “to remove outdated regulations that stifle job creation and make our economy less competitive.”

“Interestingly, though he and his Administration didn’t embrace it last year, we have noticed pieces of the plan being incorporated by the President including trade agreements and rolling back barriers to job creation found in the regulatory system,” Cantor said in a statement.

In December 2009, Cantor, then the House minority whip, gave Obama a copy of a Republican jobs plan at a meeting at the White House.

Listed as a proposal in the plan was: “Halt Any Proposed Rule or Regulation Expected to Have an Economic Cost, Result in Job Loss, or Have a Disparate Impact on Small Businesses.”

“Leader Cantor handed this proposal directly to President Obama at the White House in December 2009 as a part of GOP’s ‘No-Cost Jobs Plan,’ ” Cantor spokesman Brad Dayspring said in a statement.

    Oh LORDIE!!!!

  26. Palin and Cheney – I’d take those to as the GOP spokespersons every day. Cheney has something like a 20% like/dislike rating, an Palins is somewhere around 33%. Both these numbers ar pretty consistant as they’re outside of politics of the day.

President Obama’s number on the other hand I put much less weight in. That number will fluctuate above and below 50 over the next two years.

  27. Every time Darth Cheney sonorously intones his conviction that Obama will be a one term President I also remember his sincere conviction that Iraq would be a piece of cake and the natives would rush out and dance in the streets with joy over our presence there and the entire enterprise would be paid for out of the Iraqi oil ministry – no pain, no fuss, and hardly anyone dead. I remember his promise that we’d find the place was wall to wall WMDs.

Cheney is a coward who even now has trouble hiding his terror at the thought that during 9/11 he – yes, HE – might have been in danger. I’ve read accounts from people who worked in the White House that Cheney was actually quite obsessed with his personal safety and felt very threatened and this drove his over-the-top desire to do anything – anything – to stop the terrorists. What we saw from him wasn’t strength against terrorism, it was the implementation of policies to protect him from terrorism because he’s nothing but a chicken shit Chickenhawk who avoided military service during Vietnam and has always covered his own hide first. Bawk, bawk, bawk!

  28. There’s a big difference between one line in an empty document (Republican plan), and a well thought out plan that is practical and has a hope of success (the President’s plans). These Republicans are a disaster.

  29. Cantor sounds like silly ads for Windpws 7 where people say “Windows 7 was my idea”!

To your point having clear plan of action and actually executing/implementing is not the same as a wishful thinking!

  30. He’s a horrible man. Enough said. Or if I must, I shall reword that in a more enlightened manner: He is a man who does horrible things. LOL, I’m SO not there yet.

Remember, though, the PL say the same thing “onetermpresidentletsprimaryhim.” They want to be kingmakers. Failing at that. And they are nowhere near being the kings/queens themselves. What’s left? Oh yeah, talking. To each other…

Add me to the Silly Grin Club.

  31. Just a heads up gang, the Democrats in the House of Representatives are holding a meeting on the Future of Health Care Law right now on CSPAN-2. I think it just started at 1:00 p.m. EST

  32. I waded over to Orange Hell first today (I’m peeking at the internet while at work). If you’re lazy enough to not read Obama’s WSJ op-ed and take dKos’ word for everything, you would have thought Obama had come out for the total dismantling of all regulations of all agencies, unless the regulations apply to ACORN.

So thanks, bwd, for posting what the President actually said: balance, common sense and a commitment to the protection of Americans.

  33. You know what I can’t wait for? Cheney explaining on network TV all of the health care he has received. (MSNBC actually played it as a teaser)

I think that’s precisely the message Americans need to hear.

  34. Now if we can just keep ‘independents’ in our camp instead of following the next shiny object……

  35. Like you, BWD and others, I’m so proud of our First Family…

    They do America proud!

And, I love their vid clip showin’ America and the world how to celebrate MLK Day.

But, of course, we know, a day of service just doesn’t start or stop on MLK Day. We do it, 365 days a year…

    Right?! 😉

  36. WhatIsWorking, you’ve given us another great idea…Woman of Action…

Btw, are you speakin’ of your ‘obamacares4us’ website that BWD has blogrolled? 😉

Thanks for your help… our President, his Admin, and the Congressional Dems need all our help…Obama/Biden 2012!

And, I love your blog site!

  37. Theo67, you ain’t neva lied…

GOP[TeaParty] had decades (1994-2006) to show America and the world their “so-called” plan!
