Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot in Arizona

I will not jump to conclusions and wait for more details – I will, however, remind everyone that she was on Sarah Palin’s “hit list“.

Discuss and share info.

  1. The AZ sheriff is reporting on MSNBC that Congresswoman Giffords is still alive, though in very grave condition. Five are confirmed dead, but not Congresswoman Giffords. I am praying for each and every victim and their families.

  2. I’ve been reading that she has been under threat several times before. Office vandalized, a pistol taken from a person when she was doing a public forum.

    Very scary.

She was one of those that was very tough on immigration, but she’s in a border state. Border state politicians have to take a stance one way or another.

    She also supported healthcare reform..?

  3. Thank you for posting this, blackwaterdog. You’re a good soul.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families of Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford and all who lost their lives today.

  4. CNN has reported that Gifford along with 6 others are dead. This is just too much. This is so sad.

Believe it or not, I never wear my Obama gear here in SC out of fear. I should be able to feel comfortable rocking my Obama gear, but I have never been. The bumper stickers that I read here, make me so cautious.

They are in my thoughts and prayers.

  5. This is a tragedy, and a not unexpected outcome from all the RW hatred sweeping the country.

Peace and blessings to Congresswoman Griffiths’ family.

  6. RIP to Rep. Giffords, and the SIX other people killed by this person. God bless their families.

  7. Latest posted at NYT,

“A congresswoman from Arizona was shot point blank in the head and killed on Saturday in a shooting at a public event at a grocery store in Tucson, according to her spokesman, C. J. Karamargin, and news reports. Twelve others were injured in the shooting.

“She was taken to University Medical Center in Tucson, the trauma center for the area, about 10 miles away, but NPR and CNN reported that she had been killed. “

  8. as usual with instant media/communication reports seem to be differing? NYT still saying condition unknown. NY Daily News reporting she died.

WaPo saying both! (headline she’s dead, report says condition unknown…)

  9. BWD . . . I request that you delete your comment about Palin’s hit list. It is not a match for your way of being a responsible communicator for all of us.

  10. THANK God you are here. Please talk to me.

Gabby is my Congresswoman and my friend, I have no one to talk to. Please pray for all of us, am too shocked to think just yet, just crying.

  11. I am sad today.

The MSM is every bit responsible for the promotion of teabaggers and the death of an innocent person who has been serving this country. RIP Rep. Gabrielle Giffords!

  12. I’m in Georgia, when I travel to areas outside of the metro area I become a bit nervous as my Obama/Biden sticker is still on my car.

  13. Just for the record, BTW, the ‘takebackthe20’ website has been pulled and one now gets a “500 Internal Server Error”

    But, thanks to Google cache:

we have a snapshot of the page as it appeared on 8 Jan 2011 at 1903 GMT.

Just thought you might want to have this in your archive ….

  14. Isn’t this horrifying? This man walked up to her and shot her point blank in the head. Just horrific.

  15. Sara Carter, I couldn’t disagree with you more. This congresswoman was TARGETED, not only by Sarah Palin’s website, but by the Rethuglican who ran against her in November. Literally TARGETED. He invited his supporters to “TARGET” his opposition and take SHOOTING lessons with him! What more do we need, as a country, to understand that this isn’t innocent rhetoric. It’s INSIGHTING VIOLENCE. It’s literally a call to ARMS. We must not ignore it or dismiss it or sugarcoat it. Our entire democracy depends on all of us standing together and DENOUNCING this rhetoric and the people who are using it, including Sarah Palin, or more innocent people who are working for ordinary Americans will end up assasinated. So tragic and horrifying.

  16. I will keep you in my thoughts along with the dear Congresswoman. So very sorry, so very sorry.

  17. No, Leave it up. As long as jerks like Palin can put up “Hit lists” and bullseyes, we need to call them out loudly about it. We need to tell the whole US that this is not acceptable, not moral, not Christian.

  18. Oh revgerry, I am so very, very sorry. I’m in tears in Georgia, I can’t even begin to imagine the pain you’re experiencing right now. (((revgerry))).

If it’s okay with you, I’ll include you in my prayers.

  19. Yes, she voted with us for health care reform, green energy, much else…but this is an R+4 or 5 district, she is a sweet person.

  20. There are times when good thoughts and prayers are all we can hang onto.

    revgerry!! I’m so sorry.

  21. I’m crying too revgerry, please know we all support you, the Congresswoman and everyone involved. Sad is not the word to describe what happened.

  22. Smart thinking, Bobfr. Interesting that someone took the site down.

I despise Palin. Absolutely despise her.

  23. revgerry, just crying along with you. So impossible to accept that this beautiful, young mother would be assasinated for her political affiliation. And that her supporters would be murdered in cold blood alongside her.

Hopefully, this tragic event will change the direction our country has been taking for too many years. Hate speech is not freedom of speech. It’s a license for many people to kill those they disagree with.

My prayers are with her family and her friends and with you.

    Good luck to us all.

  24. Maybe just a coincidence, but a package that exploded yesterday (not a bomb, but incendiary device of some sort) that was addressed to Janet Napolitano.

Should all Democrats be on heightened alert??!!!

  25. My love, revgerry. I’m more sorry than I can say.

This is horrible and a horrendous waste — to our congress, to this country, to this woman’s family, to the people — the entire people — of Arizona.

  26. Oh Sweetie – I am so, so sorry. I just saw a picture of her on the Yahoo Home Page – lovely face and smile. Hugs. g

  27. There seem to be conflicting accounts re: whether Giffords is still alive; whether the total dead is 5, 6 or 7. This is unreal.

  28. Sorry, Sara, but ditto to what everyone else is saying about BWD leaving up that Palin had a hit list.

To paraphrase Edmund Burke, for evil to thrive, good people must do nothing. And hiding what Palin, and others have said in creating this atmosphere, is the equivelant of doing nothing.

  29. thank you lulu. I live here in Tucson, and if you read the comments section in the newspaper, you would know how full of hate and fear the rw people are.

I remember a gunman at a rally last year – I wrote to Gabby and suggested she just meet at public schools where guns are prohibited. This was evidently an automatic weapon.

GUN RIGHTS are so strong, the first bill in our legislature gives teachers the right to carry guns on college campuses.

  30. My its some funny times we live in? are there anymore details as to what happened? All I know is that a man with a gun went up to her and shot her point blank. and who were the 6 others that died?

  31. This is from wapo article from March 2010:

Lawmakers concerned as health-care overhaul foes resort to violence

“Our democracy is about participation,” Hoyer said. “Our democracy is about differing and debate and animated debate and passionate debate. But it is not about violence.”

The vandalism began last weekend, when the House debated the health bill for final passage. In Wichita, someone broke the window of a county Democratic Party headquarters with a brick that had “No to Obama” and “No ObamyCare” written on it. Lyndsey Stauble, executive director of the Sedgwick County Democratic Party, said she went to work Saturday morning to clean up the shattered glass around her desk.

“It was surprising and alarming to know that people, when they have so many opportunities for expression in this country, that somebody would resort to a brick,” Stauble said.

Over the next 24 hours, thrown bricks shattered the glass doors and windows of party headquarters from Rochester, N.Y., to Cincinnati. A propane gas line at the Charlottesville home of Rep. Tom Perriello’s brother was severed Tuesday after a self-identified “tea party” activist posted what he believed to be the Virginia Democrat’s address on a Web site and urged opponents to “drop by” to convey their opposition to his yes vote on the health bill.

A brick was thrown through the Niagara Falls district office of Rep. Louise M. Slaughter (D-N.Y.), who also received a threatening voice-mail message referring to sniper attacks. The front door to the Tucson district office of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) was shattered. And Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.), whose last-minute negotiations to bar federal funding of abortion helped secure the bill’s passage, received a fax with a drawing of a noose and an anonymous voice mail saying: “You’re dead. We know where you live. We’ll get you.”

This is too scary. There are too many imbalanced people out there. They just need a little suggestion and then get caught up by those that encourage violence in some way…

I’m hoping the reports are all wrong – and that she has survived, along with others who were shot.

  32. SARAH PALIN’S list has ACTUAL gun site TARGETS on it. These people have to be exposed before there’s another death.

  33. Absolutely not — leave it up — if there were responsible communicating in this country, we would not tolerate that hate mongering by Sarah Palin and others that our media as been blasting around our society for several years now as though that kind of thinking was mainstream thought.

  34. (NOTE: I’d posted this in the original Mish Mash thread, and more appropriately placing here, with a tweak — adding on Palin to my list per BWD’s excellent reminder about how vile she’s been).

Okay, I was upset on hearing the news that she was shot, now that she apparenly has died, I am crying… First, my prayers to Rep. Giffords family.

    Second, my rant.

It has finally happened. The rhetoric of Beck, Hannity, O’Reilly, Limbaugh, PALIN, Angle, Brewer, Teabaggers, Fox News, et al, has finally driven someone to do this to a DULY-ELECTED federal legislative representative.

And now we’ll see them spin like O’Reilly did with respect to Dr. Tiller’s murder, that it wasn’t what they said, it was this lone crazy person, etc.

And per BWD’s great reminder to us about Palin’s culpability, I want to see what she has to say with her hit list, and “reload” comments. Someone’s already noted that apparently her “hit list” website is now down. (I know most of us don’t pay her much attention, because she really is dumb, but I think we also sometimes forget how dangerous she really is).

That said, let’s see what Boehner, Cantor, McConnell, Graham, have to say now. What will McCain and Kyl say as part of her state congressional delegation?

It’ll be interesting, because as has been noted in other threads here and blogs elsewhere, at some point the GOP was going to put themselves in a bind cultivating this type of mindset, and they’d have to backtrack on it, if something went awry — and here we are…

I am horrified that this has happened. Horrified. Especially knowing the dicey make-up of Rep. Giffords’ district, it appears that she purposley didn’t vote for Pelosi as Speaker to keep out of that controversy, and voted for John Lewis instead as a gesture of moving toward civility, etc. And this is what happens to her anyway.

And I know I’m preaching to the choir when I say this — we all know we have got to work hard to get Congress and the White House back in 2012, we can NOT, let the GOP win again, because this new version of Republicans brings nothing but crazy with them.

And right now, I am extremely angry, not only with what has happened to Rep. Giffords, but knowing that allowing the GOP to regain control of the House to enable such an atmosphere to exist where Rep. Giffords would be shot and killed, occured because too many Democrats and like-minded independents stayed home, being turned-off by the Citizens United funded ads, and listening to the PL/frustrati. Just as conservatives came out to vote based on Citizens United funded ads, and listening to Limbaugh, et al.

And while I know that mid-terms always have a lower turnout, the PL/frustrati whining didn’t help. And as someone noted in another comment, you can’t bitch and moan for nearly two years about Obama and the Democrats, and then a few months before the mid-terms, say, “okay, let’s support them, because they’re really not as bad as we said, we’re just mad we didn’t get our pony right away. And they are really better than the alternative…” Yada, yada, yada…

    We. Can. Not. Lose. 2012.

  35. CNN is saying that Giffords is still alive and in surgery. Prayers to her and the other critically injured victims.

  36. Yes, revgerry. and please don’t take my comments about tough on immigration the wrong way. Being a border state, a politician has to take a stance one way or another. It’s easier for states who don’t have such an influx of traffic over the border to just ignore those issues.

I think what’s most important in the end is republican or democrat – what has a politician done for the betterment of those that elected them into office? It seems she has been working hard on issues to improve the nation.

revgerry – right now I’m just hoping for good news and a miracle…

  37. After shooting Gifford, the gunman opened fire indiscriminately for a few seconds, hitting a number of people, including a kid no older than 10 years old. Rayle hid behind a concrete pole and pretended to be dead. When the gunman apparently ran out of ammunition he attempted to flee, but a member of Gifford’s staff tackled him. The Rayle helped hold him down while waiting for the sheriff to arrive, about 15-or 20 minutes later. 30 minutes later the EMS came. Rayle said he was “stunned” by how long it took medical help to arrive.

The man was young, mid-to-late 20s, white clean-shaven with short hair and wearing dark clothing and said nothing during the shooting or while being held down. He didn’t look like a businessman, but more of a “fringe character,” our source said.

  38. Her family must just be in a living hell, along with those of all of the other people who were shot. Horrifying. I’m pulling for your congresswoman and friend, revgerry.

  39. Rayle was a former ER doctor on the scene. WTF 30 minutes for EMS to get there, and 15-20 mins for the Sheriff to get there. Is this a part of town that is not easily accessible or on the outskirts of the city or something?

  40. Even if she survives, she will never be the same, barring a divine miracle. Being shot in the head at point blank range is bound to result in extensive and permanently damaging injury. This is just extremely upsetting and disturbing.

  41. Now the republicans are going to deny that they push this kind action towards Democrats. I blame Palin and the whole fox network. They are liars, haters and murderers the worst being Beck,Hannity,Oraily and the qeen witch Sarah Palin.

  42. There have been 2 politically motivated murders in the Netherlands in the past decade:

    1. Pim Fortuyn, who was shot to death during the
    campaign of the 2002 elections.

    2. Theo van Gogh, publicist, who was assassinated
    by a Muslim extremist.

Both were not political “friends” of me. That said – and regardless of political orientation – I despise those who assassinate public figures.

It is so easy, and so pointless, to destroy a life in the public sphere.

Grow up and defeat the person whose politics you don’t agree with the established way – via elections !

  43. She seems like such a lovely person. My heart breaks for all those who have suffered loss today.

  44. Revgerry, logged in just to add my heart to the circle of love here.

I’m in Phoenix and in shock.

Feel free to vent, cry and scream. We’ll be here.

  45. The Safeway was nearby an elementary school my kids attended and a woman was on local media saying she has heard a child has been shot. It is a neighborhood grocery store, in a strip mall with a Walgreens, lots of bakeries and other little businesses, 2 banks, etc.

Gabby’s husband is an astronaut, not back in Tucson yet I don’t think

  46. HIPAA law protects patient and family rights first and foremost, and until the patient or family release info we won’t know anything. This is horrible and traumatic, and these laws are designed to keep the focus where it belongs right now, on the welfare of the patient and comforting family.
We will get names as families are notified and can respond to the situation of their loved ones.
My thoughts are with US Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, her family, her constituents, her staff, with us, with the nation. How horrifying.

  47. Absolutely! Words Matter! People like SP need to stop this dangerous rhetoric. We have all been saying since the President took office that it was just a matter of time before something like this happened. Even when she was confronted that putting cross hairs on Congresspeople as being dangerous she doubled down and continued to post this garbage.

  48. These developments are very disturbing Tori. I believe this was a pretty damned urban area and there is NO excuse for delay.

  49. I think it might be more of the cutbacks that we are seeing all around the country due to the no-tax philosophy. In my town we are talking about cutting back on firehouses. In Colorado Springs they are cutting back on everything. EMTs would be part of the cuts in a lot of places.

“Smaller Government” my ass-the whole thing is ridiculous anyway for a nation of 300 million who need basic services like fire and police and EMTs.

  50. I know Tucson well. Which strip mall is this?

And, more hugs to you. You are in a good community with us, revgerry.

  51. The NYTimes site has an article (posted much earlier, and not directly connected to this) RIGHT under the Congresswoman’s photo:

    House Democrats Unleash Rapid Attacks
By CARL HULSE 1:07 PM ET

Being in the minority allows Democrats to assault Republicans with the same kind of attacks that Republicans so effectively used against them.

At first glance, it makes it sound like a balance… like, yeah, Democrats are doing the same thing.

  52. According to TPM:

“Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) released this statement on the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ):

“I am horrified by the senseless attack on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and members of her staff. An attack on one who serves is an attack on all who serve. Acts and threats of violence against public officials have no place in our society. Our prayers are with Congresswoman Giffords, her staff, all who were injured, and their families. This is a sad day for our country.”

We must remember there is no red America and blue America – we are the United States of America.

What a sad day for those who love and know Rep Giffords.

  53. I just got home and turned the tv on and heard the news. I am sad, can’t stop the tears. This is too much and so soon after New Year – something need to be done. And don’t tell me this was not politically motivated. What kind of world we live in where people don’t respect life? So, callous and cowardly.

  54. Thank goodness he was caught!!!

Thank that staffer for tackling him and holding onto him.

BUT I’m sorry – it took 15-20 minutes for the Sheriff to arrive???? 30 minutes for EMS?? I don’t understand!!!

(of course, me being in NY and the recent blizzard, that I can understand. But this is a different situation!!)

  55. Father of Rep. Giffords, 75, wept when asked if his daughter had any enemies. “Yeah”, he told NYPost. “The whole tea party”.

  56. From somebody there:

There were tea party protesters there all carrying weapons strapped to their pants legs. Someone’s gun actually fell to the ground. There was apparently only one officer there. The Gifford staff had set up lawn chairs. She enjoyed meeting openly with her constituents. About 60 Tea party activists bused in. They were shouting Tea Party slogans.

  57. Well, I think BWD is just stating a fact — the Congresswoman was listed on Sarah Palin’s “target” list, and the image is now all over the internet. BWD is far from the only person who is pointing this out.

But BWD pointing out SarahPac’s ad is not expressing an opinion, nor is it casting blame; the image, and the message in it, is a fact, and it’s not irresponsible to mention it.

Who knows at this time who did this? News sites are reporting that the shooter is white, late teens to mid-20s, short hair, dark clothing, and that’s it. Could be anyone with any crazy reason at all.

  58. Rabbi Stephanie Aaron, her Rabbi, on the phone now on local TV; she is on her way home from Flagstaff, trying to reach her congregation through media…

Imagine how awful for them, must be like Dr. Tiller’s church and the UU church that was shot up.

    How can anyone feel safe?

  59. Absolutely.

That word gets misapplied much too often. In this case, it’s spot on.

  60. President Obama’s statement:

This morning, in an unspeakable tragedy, a number of Americans were shot in Tuscon, Arizona, at a constituent meeting with Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. And while we are continuing to receive information, we know that some have passed away, and that Representative Giffords is gravely wounded.

We do not yet have all the answers. What we do know is that such a senseless and terrible act of violence has no place in a free society. I ask all Americans to join me and Michelle in keeping Representative Giffords, the victims of this tragedy, and their families in our prayers.

  61. This is nothing but mob activity, an ugly side of human nature, deliberately escalated and ramped up by politicians looking for power.

  62. MSNBC reports that a federal judge was shot at the scene, and may have been killed, but the latter is unconfirmed.

  63. Im sorry and i will not blame until more info comes out. But this is a result of the republicans latching on to the extreme. They gave the feul.

  64. Nobody can tell me that these extremists have any match on the left side of the aisle. Insane!

  65. I’m glad he had the snapshot of the “targets”!!!

If that isn’t smacking anyone in the head suggesting violence, I don’t know what is.

  66. I guess because there is still so much unknown about the shooter’s political leanings and his motives, etc, that they are holding off for now (we hope).

On the other hand, the statements recently released by Boehner and Palin on this tragedy ring rather hollow, and very few seem to be buying them.

  67. That’s a campaign event for the teaparty candidate who she narrowly defeated in November, Jesse Kelly.

  68. I’m with you! Yet tragically I am not surprised in our current day and age with easy gun access in places like Arizona.

I am praying for all the lives and people who are in in surgery to pull through.

I pray for this Nation and hope the President can continue to counsel us to be civil to one another and to keep hope!

  69. I used to have an Obama bumper sticker on my car here in Arizona but when my daughter was run off the road (on the freeway with her 2 children in her car) with the person screaming “N***er Lover!” at her, I took the bumper sticker off of my car and so did she. These are the same people that rant and rave about “Freedom of Speech”.

It’s a shame that in this day and age people can’t get past their hatred and ignorance. I love Arizona but I hate the politics here!

  70. BWD here is the President’s comment, just posted by Latoria on her blog, Dear Mr. President (apparently the congresswoman is still alive):

    President Obama’s statement:

This morning, in an unspeakable tragedy, a number of Americans were shot in Tuscon, Arizona, at a constituent meeting with Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. And while we are continuing to receive information, we know that some have passed away, and that Representative Giffords is gravely wounded.

We do not yet have all the answers. What we do know is that such a senseless and terrible act of violence has no place in a free society. I ask all Americans to join me and Michelle in keeping Representative Giffords, the victims of this tragedy, and their families in our prayers.

  71. I’m learning so much about her today. Seems like she took her job serving very seriously and worked hard at it. Her colleagues remarks paint a picture of a great public servant for our country, I pray that remains the same.

  72. Did you see the image that BWD posted upthread? This is REALLY scary!! Where the hell did this come from?

  73. at least wapo is including this bit in their ever evolving report on this:

“The up-and-coming lawmaker, known as a moderate Democrat who paid close attention to constituent concerns, had been singled out by Sarah Palin’s SarahPac as one of the 20 Democrats on the ballot in November who represented states that supported Sen. John McCain for president in 2008. “It’s time to take a stand,” Palin’s fundraising appeal said of Giffords and the other Democrats, who had all supported the health-care bill. “

  74. It hasn’t been confirmed that Ms. Giffords is dead, but if she is alive, her condition is very serious.

  75. Yep. Not taking it back. She’s got blood on her hands, and she’s not alone. Fox and Bachmann and the rest of the criminals – all should go to jail.

  76. ‎”Her father Spencer Giffords, 75, was rushing to the hospital when asked if his 40-year-old daughter had any enemies. “Yeah,” he told The Post. “The whole tea party.” He added that politicians constantly faced danger.”They always get threatened,” Giffords cried.” -New York Post

  77. Agreed. I appreciate Sara Carter’s caution, but Palin’s graphic literally targeting Giffords is a statement of fact. The piece doesn’t draw any conclusions beyond that.

  78. Reposting from mishmash…

I heard some interesting commentary from David Fitzsimmons (Cartoonist & Opinion Columnist for the Arizona Daily Star) interviewed on CNN earlier.

He said Arizona is far to the right and a gun happy state. Guns are a like a fetish and there is an intense gun culture there. He seemed to imply it was just a matter of time before something like this happened considering the political climate. The host cautioned him that we don’t know the motives of the assailant. Fitzsimmons stressed that this was just his opinion as a cartoonist and opinion columnist.

He said Congresswoman Giffords was narrowly re-elected to her third term in a very conservative district. She was considered a centrist and as already noted in the comments, she had received threats related to health care reform in the past.

It was enlightening to hear this insight from a local columnist.

  79. CNN is now saying 18 shot, 6 dead, no new word about Congresswoman Giffords. My God, these people did nothing but show up to a grocery store.

  80. STate Senator LOPez of Arizona, was saying she was targeted heavily by the tea party.

  81. I have to disagree with you on this one. Sarah Palin has been dog-whistling the crazies since McCain chose her. I hope she gets a visit from some men in black.

  82. Oh that is so awful, the whole thing is heartwrenching. I’m just so sorry for all of these people.

  83. That was from a flyer put out by her oppomemt in the last election. It included a picture of him holding an assault weapon.

  84. Regardless of what the outcome is from the investigation, every single hate speaking violent rhetoric blowhard in the GOP, the Tea Party, and Fox Haters like Beck and Limbaugh HAVE BLOOD on their hands!

  85. I have to disagree. This is now beyond hyperbole from the Right. And they need to be called out for it.

  86. A-men, BWD, Palin has blood on her hands, and this one she can’t take back, especially since Rep. Giffords was on her “hit list.” There is no innuendo here.

  87. Thanks for the link kishik. The 20 Dems represented districts (rather than states) which McCain/Palin won in 2008. And they really need to describe the Palin gun target list graphic. It is titled: “We’ve diagnosed the problem…Help us prescribe the solution” and is a blue map with the 20 districts highlighted as gun targets.

Doesn’t get much worse than that.

  88. Judge John Roll was the federal judge shot. Im sorry but Shep Smith got more info.

  89. What are they saying? Any mea culpas on their gun/hunting rhetoric? Or just alot of spinning and distancing?

  90. Particularly their queen Palin! She is in my mind an enemy of the state – and from her words – an Un repentant one!?

  91. Didja see the link to the Andrew Sullivan piece? He frontpages that target boldly…

Anyone not stable will take that as instruction.

  92. what? that _they_ are in danger??

Last year, the threats and vandalism inflicted on Democrats offices and homes.

okay. the package sent to Napolitano was _not_ a bomb – but clearly sent to cause fear.

And now today, this shooting/assassination attempt.

  93. I think all of suspected that something like this was bound to happen with the level of rhetoric unleashed in this country and amplified by the crew at Fox. Many will condemn the shooting and say they never told anbody to use violence. Of course, Henry II also said he never really told his knights to kill Beckett.

But the worse are the people like Boehner or Cantor or the rest of those Republicans that my never have used the heated up rhetoric, but at the same time never condmened it, and even when asked straight out would say freedom of speech and look how the left treated Bush, as if there was any comparison. By not coming right out and condemning th rhetoric they implicitly condoned it and that makes them complicit in all of this.

  94. I posted this on SP’s facebook page. I posted “you have blood on your hands and you can’t wash it off with your “generic” condolences.

  95. you know – when the report first came out, there are always those that comment to the story?? Some of the early comments (NY Daily News) actually were inferring it must be some angry illegal immigrant that did this.

    shades of oklahoma bombing…

we’ve got our own homegrown terrorists. 😦

  96. It was just reported by MSNBC that she is expected to live…be careful about false reporting.

  97. Agreed—-all her constant gun talk—-“don’t get angry, reload” or whatever it was —-always “reload”, take them out etc. Palin and all the others with the violence inciting talk—-and all those in the media who let it go, never suggesting that this was dangerous kind of rhetoric. I keep thinking of the dude who showed up at an Obama appearance with a loaded AK-47 and everyone bent over backwards to make it seem okay, that it was no big deal. Everyone knew it was a matter of time till someone with loose screws would act out, that someone in govt. would be a target. All the violent shouting around the healthcare talks—-the media never spoke out about that either. Giffords’ office was shot at during that debate and ransacked. The good news is I hear that Giffords is expected to live, tho we don’t know the extent of the damage.

  98. Exactly!

Anyone not stable will take that as instruction.

    There’s just no denying this.

  99. Daily News reporting an aide to the Congresswoman died? Anyone hear anything on this? 😦

  100. Giffords’ hospital: The critically injured 9 year old child died (RIP; I have no words for her or his family, I don’t know what you could possibly say to people who lost a child like this). Re, Giffords: “very optimistic about recovery.” The gunshot went in and out of her head. This is some sick, sick stuff.

  101. Fox News is now reporting that the child shot has since died. (Shep Smith—about the only decent person they have there—is leading the coverage.)

    There are no words.

My thoughts and prayers to the families and friends of those wounded and killed.

I wondered, and I wasn’t the only one, how long it would take the digital gunsights to become real ones. Sarah Palin et al have a lot to answer for.

  102. Hospital spokesperson said that she was shot in the head, “through and through”, through the brain, but she was responding to commands, so they were somewhat optimistic. The death they had at the hospital was the young child, a 9 yr. old girl, I believe, tragically. 5 others at that hospital are in extremely critical condition. 18 were shot.

  103. OMG!!! They are now doing a “me, too, I’m in danger”?!!!… They are disgusting.

  104. Gunman is Jared Laughner, who has some kind of previous record with law enforcement, 2 other possible gunmen being sought according to Az. news sources.

  105. Just listened to the press conferences’s. Congresswomen Giffords is given very good odds. What a story. A young child is dead. So much is coming out. We must push back on Palin and all the others who have preached this targeting and reloading like it didn’t mean what it really means. We must stand up for democracy! Thank you BWD for having this site for us to talk reality!

  106. I live in Arizona and Rep. Giffords is ALIVE and out of surgery from a through and through gunshot wound in the head. The surgeon lists her in critical condition but seems to feel she may well survive. 6 are dead, including a 9 year old child and a Federal Judge.

  107. They hoped to benefit from this violent extremist dog-whistlin’ rhetoric knowing it was a deadly bet.

  108. Poor guy. RIP Sir.

“Judge Roll in 2009, faced death threats after presiding over a $32 million civil-rights lawsuit. The lawsuit was filed by illegal immigrants against an Arizona rancher. After Judge Roll ruled the case would be certified, threats came from talk-radio shows which fueled controversy and spurred audiences into making threats against the judge[2].

The threats materialized after one show, Judge Roll’s name logged more than 200 phone calls as some callers threatened the judge and his family[2]. ”

  109. I am sure the media will struggle to find some fake balance with this senseless violence. But we all know that during the healthcare reform debate it was mostly the Democrats who were getting the threats.

The Republican majority in the House decided that the most important thing they could do is repeal the ACA to satisfy their Tea Party base. The start of the 112th congress has been tragic in more ways than one.

I am so grateful that the surgeon sounded optimistic about recovery for Congresswoman Giffords. This is absolutely chilling. I fear for my country.

  110. Local news reports that Gabby is out of surgery in critical condition and that they are “encouraged,” she is fighting for her life. The bullet exited through the back of her head.

A 9 year old child has died.

5 others in critical condition, 5 others in surgery.

Please continue your prayers for all of us in Tucson, Gabby grew up here, this is her home town.

  111. Yeah but they deleted my discussion. Then I went and posted on her wall. There are over 9,000 comments there. Then I tried to post a third comment and was blocked. The very first comment on the thread is a Palin supporter begging for “support” on the CNN blog I guess where the poster said that everybody was blaming Palin.

  112. thank you, kishik. Peter King won’t investigate this kind of homegrown terrorism tho, what do you wanna bet?

    Think Dr. Tiller

Think the UU church shot up

  113. In the recent book, “The Kennedy Detail”, it is noticed that in 1963, about half the number of Secret Service people were needed to protect the President and the Vice-president, as were needed today to protect a candidate for the presidency,

Are we on the way to have a security detail for every elected official (400+ in the House and 100 in the Senate) ?

Note that the today protection might have saved Robert Kennedy’s life.

  114. Well said Thinkinoutthe box. We don’t have to ignore the fact that this senseless tragedy is a direct result to the right wing echo chamber stoking irrational fears and directly advocating violence against public figures. I am a strong believer in Karma and I pray that those who were so irresposible and cavalier about violence reap what they will reap what they sow. BWD please continue to connect the dots because we know the MSM will find a way to absolve the RW from blame.

  115. Okay, Tori, I just saw your other posting, upthread that they took your Sarah Palin FB posting down…

But as BWD said, the GOP is freaking out now, and covering up/suppressing as much as possible (and as noted many times already, thank you, Jesus, for Google cache). Because what is really bad for the GOP with this shooting is that:

1). A federal judge was shot, and reportedly killed. What happened to them being lovers of the judicial system and law enforcement? Which says to me with all this backtracking the GOP is doing now, PBO is about to get all his federal judgeship appointments that have been held-up, suddenly “unclogged” now. Because we all know that they cannot win a national election without crossover from Democrats and Independents, and that is a demo where violence is very, very, very unseemly.

2). Rep. Giffords was a moderate, she was no “flaming liberal/progressive”, which means in her district there were Republicans and conservative independents who liked her. And if this is who is getting shot, again this will be very unseemly to moderate Republicans and independents.

3). It enables the Democrats to talk about all the attacks/vandalism/threats to our elected officials for the last two years, and raise the issue about PBO having the most documented death threats of any President in history. And a platform for them to say violence is never right, the ballot box is where you protest, etc.,

4). It’s a reminder that the Teabaggers threw out the N-word, and spit on Black congressmen during the healthcare debate, as well as, their signs and rhetoric promoting violence; and

5). Speaking of Teabaggers, it will remind people how crazy they are, and that they must get out and vote in 2012 to get Democrats back in control of the House of Reps, and give PBO a significant majority in the Senate.

  116. Imagine being that hungry for power. A little innocent 9 year old has lost her precious life because a bunch of mostly white, racists, pieces of shits wanted power so badly, they did anything, sunk the lowest to achieve seats in congress. OMG smh.

  117. During her tea party opponent Kelly’s campaign:

Get on Target for Victory in November Help remove Gabrielle Giffords from office. Shoot a fully automatic M16 with Jesse Kelly.

  118. Let us not forget the man with guns going to Pres Obama’s rally, the disruption, total disrepect and threats at the Democratic town hall meetings on health care, the stamping of that lady at a Rand Paul event and the list goes on.
The Media needs to make the Tea Party own this if one of its members or supporters is resposible and the Republicans who embraced the Tea Party rubbish.

Get well Rep Giffords and all who are injured. Condolences to the family of the child who has been reported as dead and thoughts are with the families of all those injured.

  119. Revgerry, that is great news about Rep. Giffords, but so, so, so sad about the child…

In addition to my prayers to Rep, Giffords, the other shooting victims, and the families, I send much love, {{{{hugs}}}, and prayers to you and her supporters in Arizona.

I just can’t imagine feeling such victory and hope in her winning in November, and having to face this today…

  120. on the disgraceful Republican dressed as progressive site huffington post, they have almost 3,000 comments in moderation pertaining to this story. wtf….why would so many comments be lingering in moderation? Too much truth about the gop ,palin, and msm’s role in this I think.

  121. Wow, what a strong woman Senator Gifford is. We must keep praying for her full recovery and the others that have survived.

  122. True Dotster. My only addition would be that the MSM knew that a Democratic politician would be killed. I remember when Pres. Obama first came into office and the FBI released a paper citing the rise in violent right wing extremism in America. The MSM and Right Wing echo chamber were up in arms and drowned out the warning. The RW feels invincible. The violent rhetoric only comes from the RW (except for fringe lefties talking shit about Obama). The hateful, racist and violent rhetoric coming from the RW has lead directly to the shooting of a democratic congresswoman. Blood is on Sara Palin’s hands.

  123. I am sickened that this happened today. I hope Rep. Giffords recovers and feel awful for the families of all the victims. Hopefully, this shocking event will wake some people up about the tone of their political rhetoric and get everyone to stop treating their opponents as enemies and remember that we are all Americans. We are brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, daughters and sons, neighbors and friends and we need to treat each other as such. Please let something good come from this tragedy and let people stop and think and tone things down. No more 2nd amendment remedies, no more guns at political gatherings, no more wild conspiracy theories generated for ratings purposes.

  124. revgerry – thank goodness Peter King is NOT my congressman. But he is way too close to home. My congresswoman is Carolyn McCarthy – strong on anti-gun.

  125. I don’t think the MSM will take it seriously until the victim is a conservative republican, then all hell will break loose. I hope I am wrong, I really do.

  126. There was a speech the President gave a while back – the phrase “words have consequences” comes to mind. That keeps going through my mind. First Glenn Beck gave “lessons” to his audience that provoked the gunman in SF.

Now this. If anyone remembers a speech Obama made, please post.

I so hope Congresswoman Gifford makes a full recovery. I wonder if we could somehow make an online “get well” card for her? I can go see if I can find something.

  127. MSNBC is a disgrace! This Franks guy is one of the main crazies in the house and he on MSNBC talking about this.

My God I pray that Rep. Giffords pull through.

  128. I know Kelly. I try to understand ALL people, but I just can’t wrap my head around that kind of depravity in the name of power to inflict more depravity on people.

  129. They won’t connect the dots because our MSM will never critcize a Republican unless it can also criticize a Democrat (however, the MSM will gladly slam a Democrat without the false equivilency b.s.). These tea party bastards love to put the Hitler moustache on Pres. Obama, but they are the ones acting like Nazis. I pray that our fellow citizens will rise up and say enough to this tea party shit. They are terrorists pure and simple.

  130. Yes, I’ve noticed that MSNBC is desperately trying to show these Republican congressmen to be reasonable folks. Where were these congressmen during the last two years when the Teabaggers were inciting violence and encouraged by Palin, Bachman and others???

  131. I know that’s right. She cares only about Jan.
Even as she speaks, she is making it about her!

  132. And miss Huff Puff was quick to post a picture of Boener smiling alongside Rep Gifford as if they were the best of friends. Why not post a pic of the Rep with other fellow Democrats?

  133. I hope this senseless tragedy will result in the tea party being marginalize and driven back underground (the crazy racist violent extremists have always been among us, but the rebranding of them as the “Tea Pary” by the MSM and their corporate sponsors allowed them to enter the mainstream). I pray our fellow citizens will wake up and spurn the Tea Party and its violent rhetoric. They are terrorists.

  134. Well, Hopefruit there are a few ways to look at that particular picture being posted —

Not knowing when it was taken, it could be that it was taken the other day when the new Congress started and just showing the irony that she was clearly okay with the GOP leadership, but look what happened to her anyway…

Or, regardless of when it was taken, it’s to give an optics to her being a moderate, and not an avowed progressive (though bless her fair-minded heart, it is clear that she did not fear voting “progressive”, e.g., healthcare, and DADT repeal — even as a military wife.)

Or, cynically, it’s just Arianna editorially showing, as many think she often does, that she’s still a converted Repubican, and it’s her default paradigm, even when she insists that it isn’t.

But I’m with you. I wish they’d just put up a photo of her… She deserves that recognition.

And now it looks like they’ve switched the photo to showing the first responders on-scene.

  135. Gabrielle is my congress woman.
She was shot down the street from my house.
I would have been there had I known she was there.
Our governor has been instrumental is passing recent gun laws.
Is this how we stay safe? Letting any nut case own a gun and carry it anywhere.
She should be removed as our governor

  136. I just heard President Obama’s comments on Gabrielle Giffords & all who are Involved in this horrifying tragedy. I tell you I’m just tearing as I type, this Is sooooo chilling. It makes you move right in to the hearts of all who are Involved. I’m praying for the Giffords, her Husband, her Mom, Dad, & her Children. I’m praying for all the victims. And revgerry, you are truly In my prayers as well. We will get through this, God Is In charge here, we must let go & let God. I can’t explain It all, but there just come a time, when we must be still for a moment, but PRAY, PRAY, PRAY!

As for SP, & removing BWD’s comments on her, well, I say, IT IS WHAT IT IS. IF IT IS, then IT IS! To my fellow Mishmashers, If you will, keep the Faith, & PRAY not only for all who were Involved In this tragedy, but we need to PRAY for our Country & our Government Daily. It’s just a Mean, Evil, & Revengeful spirit lurking among us. This Thing Is just bigger than us, & we need Heavenly & Spiritual help.

  137. OK. Within in 10 minutes Gov. Brewer and Rep. Flake (R-AZ) have said “lets move on” and try to see that this does not happen again. No. We will not be “moving on” quite yet. Here we go with the random crazy guy theory.

I am praying for all the victims and their families. My heart goes out to the family of the 9-year-old victim. The Republican Party needs to step-up and take responsibility for their retoric.

  138. Just saw a full AP shot of the original photo, and it is apparently the swearing in… But again, still agree with you that another photo of her with other Democrats or by herself, would have been better.

  139. Based on what I read following Andrew Sullivan’s blog, the details coming out about him make him seem like a disturbed individual, but not one necessarily following the Tea Party. I’m glad they were able to prevent him from killing himself, and hopefully he will provide clarification on his exact motivations.

  140. If it’s two gunmen being sought, then that’s a conspiracy. This was no lone nut.

  141. Many disturbed individuals are drawn to extremist groups like the Tea Party. Members of the Tea party, including congresspersons, and former VP candidate Sarah Palin, have stoked anti-gov’t anger and incited violence that would appeal to these disturbed individuals. Therefore, anyone who knowingly enabled people like this individual via their extremist rhetoric in the form of spoken words, tweets, stump speeches or website info, is culpable, in my opinion.

  142. I agree. No more sugarcoating. I didn’t know about the republican who was running against her. Just wow. As for Sarah Palin, no matter how she tries to run away from it, she did use gun imagery to target those democrats. I won’t post the link, but those images are easy to find.

Right-wing politicians, tv and radio personalities have used hate and fear for years, and it has become worse since Barack Obama has been elected. Any honest observer can see that. There must be a push back against them.

It’s about time sane republicans face reality and have the courage to confront the extremists who are taking control of their party.

Lastly, I’m not in the mood for the pathetic attempts at false equivalency we’re going to witness in the next few days in the media.

  143. Doesn’t matter if he was following the teaparty per say. The atmosphere that the GOP have created and msm runs with, made this guy feel its ok to attempt to assassinate this woman and murder a federal judge, along with 5 other innocent souls. THE GOP NEEDS TO OWN THIS! MSM needs to finally get out of this never ending election mode they have been on since 2007, and be more responsible.

  144. You bet. And I hope this ends the media’s infatuation with this despicable woman.

  145. Somehow I feel like Guantanamo may have uses after all.

The right wing has been playing with fire in their “end of the world” rhetoric and incitement of lunatics with guns. I hope the prognosis for Rep. Giffords remains optimistic, but the loss of other lives, and the maiming of others is unpardonable. We need to demand a change of tone in our nation’s political debates.

  146. When the republicans and the Koch brothers ginned these nuts up to go to the town hall meetings of democratic politicians to disrupt these events they were calling them patriots.

Now that these nut jobs have gotten out of control they get on tv and try to distance themselves from them.

But we will let them know that we have not forgotten who is truly responsible for this sad day.

The media has played a role is this event also, by not being responsible and calling these people out.

Both the media and the republican party have blood on their hands today.

  147. Frankly, I am sure that much of the intensity of feeling against Bill Clinton was because of the perception by many whites that he was a “race traitor”. It saddens me that my race is so fragile in its self image that this kind of bigotry flourishes.

  148. Why can’t these news agencies just report the truth instead the instant rumor? How many times does a family member or loved one have to hear that someone is dead just to have the news agencies say “oops.”

  149. Agreed hope. I think it’s verrry telling that these so-called lone nuts are attracted to the Tea Party.

Sully unearthed a new tweet from an alleged friend of the alleged shooter that says he was left wing back in 2007. If this is true and he has suffered his first psychotic break as some are speculating we can have a good discussion about mental health and guns in this country, but we cannot pivot from the fact that this violent political rhetoric has lead to violence on many occasions and attracts and fuels though who may need mental health services.

  150. Sigh! There are no words I can add that will mitigate the fact that this is a horrible situation. My only intent with this entry is to ‘physically’ add to the number of people on this site sending positive thoughts and prayers to, and for, the victims and their families.

  151. Wasn’t is George Carlin who said “I’ve never been harmed by any person of color, but Whitey scares the shit out of me.”

  152. Little Lulu, I agree we need to let all Americans who didn’t follow politics for the last two years know what Mama Grizzly (sara palin) was preaching. Now she removes the tweets and the evidence, like a coward running scared of all the venom her and her followers talked about for 2yrs straight….

  153. Please send prayers to Rep Gabby Giffords and to the families of those that survived and did not survive.

  154. And of course the teatards cry FOUL, even though THEY’VE been the ones inciting violence and crying about Obama and the libs taking their guns away.

It’s no irony either that Giffords was in Palin’s crosshairs and the PAC removed it after this incident. That just spells GUILT 100%.

Prayers for Giffords and her family, what a senseless tragedy!

  155. I am so sorry. All I can do is pray and give a virtual hug to all that may need it. I still can’t believe that a nine year old child was killed.
Maybe now more people will wake up and see who the real enemy is in this country is. All those in the media and politicians that keep saying we need to take our country back, campaign ads targeting Democrats, and when someone does something it happens on both sides. No we don’t go on the radio, tv and online telling that their people are dangerous with pictures of targets on them. I know faux was trying to do this by bringing up Cantor’s so called shooting. Hopefully their will be more people that will start to question this.

  156. The rhetoric and hatred out of the Sarah Palin Party of tea toddlers, the right wing nut Republicans has to stop. Imagine a politician in the USA in 2010 and 2011 speaking about targeting statesmen and woman with a gauge from a rifle lens? Imagine that and we sit back and let it happen with out condemnation. No wonder things like this violent act happen. Fox News and its Palin cronies fan the flames and this must stop. Sarah Palin and Republican party need to lower the volume on their hatred and see a therapist and cure it. They should be held accountable for their words…words do have power and meaning. They need to become Respectable political statesmen and woman.

  157. Hey, I’m in TN too–obviously, my ID. My Obama ’08 magnet was on my car until right before Christmas. I don’t know if someone took it off (in a parking lot)or if my husband took it off. He always took it off if we went in my car, but he always put it in the console or laid it on the shelf. I must ask him if he finally threw it away. Really, really sad when we don’t have that freedom of speech the right always talks/screams about.

This is so sad. I’m not posting this until 6:35 so lots more news out now. My surprise is that something like this hasn’t happened before.

  158. As I stated in the other thread, I find it difficult to believe that this guy was left wing in 2007. This “friend” may be just trying to divert attention away from the Tea Party in other to push a mental illness angle.

However, I take comfort in knowing that the FBI is on this case, and their evidence will be much more reliable than some friend’s tweet.

  159. I agree with you, and this is the argument that I’d like to see people making, that the atmosphere that the Tea Party created certainly contributed to this, even if they may not necessarily be his primary influence.

  160. I just want to let everyone know that the world news with Kathie Couric did display the crosshairs poster that sara palin posted. Mark my words, the death of the little 9 year old girl is on sara palin’s back.. When the first photo appears of this little girl the majprity of civil level headed Americans will never forgive sara palin……

  161. Sad to say this, but I completely agree with you. Our believing that is perfect example of what “our side” has to overcome–it’s ALL the Republican Noise Machine with LOTS of power and money behind them.

  162. Thoughts and prayers for all those injured, and those who love them. It is a very difficult night tonight.

One special prayer above others at this moment, though, for the continued vigilance of the Detail.

  163. She survives, as of current news — thoughts and prayers for her and all those injured or killed tonight.

  164. The sheriff of Pimal County is on MSNBC, and he is saying what needs to be said. He’s placing the blame where it belongs–on the violent rhetoric of some politicians and news networks. He also identified AZ as ground zero for the hate and rhetoric. I don’t know his name, but I am grateful to him for saying what needs to be said. I hope Brewer, Pierce, Ready, Palin, and others across America who think like they do are listening. He sounds totally fed up!

His name is Clarence Dupnik–calling AZ the mecca for prejudice and bigotry. Go, Sheriff, Dupnik!!

  165. The Pima County sheriff is right fucking on. He has not held back on the part of the vitriol speech, cable TV/media has played with the horrific crime. Bravo Sheriff!!!!

  166. My sentiments exactly! I applaud Seriff Dupnik for saying what should have been said long ago.

  167. Yes – he said certain radio and news organizations….

yah. like we all know what he means!!! That’s the only thing he held back on – not naming names!

This is totally personal. On his turf. His friends. His neighbors. He’s not going to let this go at all.

Makes me wonder if there is definitely things they’ve already discovered in evidence which is why he is making these specific statements.

  168. Yup. And on the off-chance that he was left wing in ’07, why in the world would he flip to Tea Party? Hmmmm…. if that is the case, yep, I think we know the answer to that one.

  169. So the new speaker could not come out and have a news conference. Why are they hiding now.

  170. He’s making a statement tomorrow at 8:30AM on CNN. After he collaborates with his media friends to exhonerate the GOP from any kind of responsibility.

  171. And there we have it, McCain and friends will be all over the sunday news shows with their manufactured message/talking points about innocent and guilt free they all are.

I just read that Howard Fineman has written something on Huff Post directed at the President on all this.. anyone read it yet? Opinions?

  172. Yeah, I understand. I have Obama T-shirts that I am somewhat afraid to wear. I’m not so sure as if I’m afraid or so proud (so as not to hurt the T-shirts), but there you have it. They are just T-shirts, but it means much more than that to me.

I have worn those T-shirts once and proudly, without repricussion, and now (with respect to current events) I will put an Obama sticker on my bumper and more. Mess with me… I dare you. Actually, I want nothing but peace, but I will not be thought-controlled into how I think.

My Obama regalia will now be fully displayed, and I will accept the challenges that that means. You can hypocritically fight one person, but you can’t fight us all.

I love what my President has done, and I am not afraid to show it. If you wish to ask me about it, I will explain it to you. And remember always, I love you.

  173. But, most of all, it vindicates President Obama who has been talking FOR YEARS about the need for american politics to evolve towards more civil discourse.

  174. I totally agree. When Glenn Beck said he fantasized about poisoning Speaker Pelosi, there wasn’t an outcry condemning such a statement. When we learned about the dramatic increase in the threats against the life of President Obama, we were greeted by silence in the media. And many Congress people have reported receiving death threats.

Russell Simmons said on Olbermann last night that the danger of current times is that the boundary of our tolerance of the unspeakable is being moved a little each time we allow the hateful vitriol to go unchallenged. Every time we let some unacceptable thing go without denouncing it, we make it a little more acceptable – and we will find ourselves reliving the past if we’re not careful.

  175. I can’t help but quote Malcolm X after the murder of JFK: “The chickens came home to roost.” This was inevitable, sadly, and will result in fewer people running for office, more security, less contact between elected officials and the public, and I do not see that it will have any affect on Fox or Limbag, or any of the right wing media ranters. If I were a congressperson, I would demand security for myself and family. There have been lots of incidents, threats, offices vandalized. People hung in effigy. Where is the outrage??? The media will never blame itself. Never. These people must be shamed, but they have not shame. What can we do?

  176. I was thinking the same thing. The teaparty, the repugs and media chickens are all coming home to roost. The media is just as much responsible for this, due to their lack of truthful reporting about the tea party, the people behind the tea party, and the overall real agenda of the repugs.

  177. Yes – where are Jan Brewer’s tears for the two people who she allowed to die so she could spend the money on a stadium and algae research, instead of providing them with transplants?!

  178. “GUN RIGHTS are so strong, the first bill in our legislature gives teachers the right to carry guns on college campuses.”

Hi. I hail from Texas (I know that certain people don’t like Texas, and that’s OK), so I know a bit about this. I do not believe in Uzi’s for children, but I would rather have a PHD or otherwise college professional carrying a gun than some clown on the street.

I will remind you of our 2nd ammendment, and even in bad times such as these, it cannot be ignored.

Let’s talk about realism. Did you hear about the kid that died at a gun show? Uzi? I am not a fan of gun shows. They are an abusement of the second ammendment as far as I am concerned, but there abusement is aslo in retaliation.

The 2nd ammendment was established such that we, the people, shall not be trampled upon by our own government, and none other as well.

But to give a kid an Uzi? To independently mandate yourself as the be-all end-all in our democratic republic? No, I draw a line. And this line you will not cross without consequences.

  179. That’s right, Tea Party. You heard me right. Your ‘revolution’ is dead. Now, go vote for Bachmann, if you want to be ignorant.

Or, you could actually research and know the issues which effect us daily. I will help you if you ask (and even if you don’t), but I am only here for a limited time.

    Remember always, I love you.

    InJapan HeartSurgeon Number1 SteadyHand

  180. My thoughts and prayers go out to Rep. Giffords’ and the other victims’ family and friends…Sorry for their loss ;(…I pray for Rep Giffords’ and other victims’ speedy recoveries!

  181. Heartbreaking irony…this sweet little girl was born on the day of our most infamous terrorist attack September 11, 2001; she died at the hands of a homegrown terrorist.

  182. “We are brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, daughters and sons, neighbors and friends and we need to treat each other as such.”

I think that this is the most important statement made today.

  183. “There have been lots of incidents, threats, offices vandalized. People hung in effigy. Where is the outrage???”

I am holding back Hell with my bare hand (rhetorically speaking), but it is coming. This event will not go unanswered. There will be Hell to pay, and this… You will feel, and I will feel.
