Sarah Silverman: I would vote for Obama again

Looks like Matt Damon lost his f***-mate. :)

Jewish comedian and actress Sarah Silverman performed a stand-up comedy show in Tel Aviv on Saturday evening during which she stated that she would vote for U.S. President Barack Obama again, saying that she has a feeling that he has a plan.

Excellent letter from the LA Times:

As a successful African American man approaching my 100th birthday, I find the rantings of West and other self-proclaimed black leaders to be divisive. Obama, by nature of his unique heritage, is not your average black man; he is neither black, white nor Hawaiian.

His objectives are for the common good. He is truly the people’s president, but the people have yet to come together as one, so he is trying hard to govern a nation that doesn’t yet exist.

Diatribes by West and others will only backfire by turning people who need help against those who can help.

Still, I have hope as I watch people worldwide who are awakening, protesting and hopefully realizing that they must band together.

John Levy

Bully Pulpit moment: Please, I ask yet again, do not bring here all kinds of bullshit from other so-called progressives sites. There’s a different between calling on Rachel Maddow and elevating some screen-name diarist to any level of significance. Please keep this out of here.

Thanks.

  1. BWD, the letter from John Levy went straight to my heart. Thank you so much for posting that. He has captured in such brevity the totality of the problem and the solution. I guess that’s what living so long can bring to a person if they are open to it, wisdom.

  2. Pres Obama is the man. Its unreal what he’s doing w so much opposition. I remember when we had “60” and dems were blocking his nominees. Go Obama, Go Dems 2012

  3. Poor Matt Damon. HA! Go Sarah!
The letter by Mr Levy is the truth. I have no doubt he speaks for the majority of us.

  4. I read that Sarkozy was pushing for a crack down on speculators – both because they drive up oil prices and also food prices. The Government here might be broken, but hopefully the EU pushes for a crackdown and fixes the problem.

There was also a quote I read from the Saudi Prince, or whatever, that said he hated the speculators as well because they drive up the price and make the money while SA sells their barrels for the market rate.

There seems to be some outside-of-Congress-obstruction efforts by the Admin, working with other leaders and agencies to crack down on speculation.

  5. Unfortunately it doesn’t sound like there were any other witnesses so will be written off as he said-she said and partisan lies by the GOP and go nowhere.

  6. It’s down more than 50 cents in less than a month where I live in the MD burbs. That’s why I think it’s so silly that some Repubs are still trying to breathe life in that dead meme.

  7. Yessirree, Buddie…

  8. Saving money on health care. NOTE: This MUST be done under a doctor’s supervision, and is for new cases diagnosed within the last 4 years.

An extreme eight-week diet of 600 calories a day can reverse Type 2 diabetes in people newly diagnosed with the disease, says a Diabetologia study.

Newcastle University researchers found the low-calorie diet reduced fat levels in the pancreas and liver, which helped insulin production return to normal.

Seven out of 11 people studied were free of diabetes three months later, say findings published in the journal….more

  9. The man is killing his own people. I am sure he will allow the people to vote. not.

  10. I like to know what Sarah Silverman means when she said that Israelis concerns over Obama are legitimate? Does she mean the SIGNIFICANT upgrade by the Obama administration in SECURITY, DEFENSE, and INTELLIGENCE cooperation between the 2 countries. The additional funds and weapnons that Obama sent Israel (when former presidents would not) in connection with defense missles and drones for Irsrael’s defense. Does she means Obama’s 67 borders comments which was exactly what Bush said on January 10, 2008 in Jerusalem? What in the world could she have met by her words?

  11. Frightening story in Chgo Trib today re. global warming and the now ice-free Northwest Passage causing changes and migration of species that haven’t been seen in 800,000 years. The change in the chemistry and the temperature of water has huge implications affecting plants and animals in the ocean as well as on land. How the Repub candidates can stand up there and call global warming/climate change a hoax is beyond me. They have to be complete idiots and so do their supporters.

  13. Thanks BWD. I’m happy to see A-Listers like Sarah Silverman and Tom Hanks speaking out in support of re-electing President Obama this early in the campaign. And what a wonderful letter from Mr. Levy in the LA Times.

  14. I am sure many of you guys got the email to join Team2012 by donating monthly. I finally broke down and started monthly donations.

So, can anyone explain the different fundraising goals – 450K vs 550K?

  15. PBO is a very rare human and very speacial, and a very very intelligent, and has a clear
vision where he wants our country to go and be , just amaizing.
yes he is traying to govern a Nation that does not exist yet so it’s up to all of us to help him
    YES we can.

  16. Sooooo…I guess we can expect to see the same AP/Yahoo/”liberal” media headlines for what Sarah said like it was when Matt Damon blasted the president, right?

    Right?

Hey, what’s with the cricket sounds?

  17. This nes should be a very big NEWS and biger than Weiner’s problems, so let’s see if the MSM will start talking 24/7 Jovie can you push it to go viral?

  18. I think Matt Damon must be regretting his one-issue foolishness right about now. He should just come out and say it.

  19. there are several LGBT people who have hatred towards the black community.

Tracy morgan and Bernice King (daughter from MLK) have said hateful things towards the LGBT community.

  20. You only have to look at the record storms all over the South to know that this isn’t just a “cyclical weather pattern”, like the Repubs want to convince their folks. The Southerners are getting hit with both the real effects of global warming, plus the Republican reluctance to use federal dollars to help them recover and weather the storms. If this doesn’t wake them up to the dangers of Republican ideology, then nothing will.

  21. A group of dolphins have taken up what seems like permanent residence in Ireland’s waters. We are really far north, so this is scary even though we love seeing them. They have been putting on quite the act for all to see and seem quite happy to be here. I hope they like whatever fish is on the menu.

  22. Flashback :D

    FIRED UP…!!

    READY TO GO..!!! :D

  23. It’s important to click into these links. It’s how the media determines the public interest in a story. If you want it to be picked up by the national media the number of views it gets determines whether it gets elevated to national prominence. Please pass it around.

  24. I don’t post here often but I read this site everyday so before I say anything else I’d like to thank BWD for an amazing site :D

“brothers” Smiley and West were self-appointed “leaders”

These 2 men as far as I can remember were never openly for President Obama and as far as I can recall (correct me if I am wrong please) never campaigned for him either.

Here comes Barack Obama;born in Hawaii by way of Indonesia who flies back to the mainland and gets his degrees and works hard and rises and rises slowly but surely.

On the other hand “brother” Smiley considered Harvard (ironic isn’t it?) yet failed to get in because he failed 1 computer class due to copying another student amongst other things he was accused of doing back in the days but we won’t get into that;for now ;)

Smiley’s been going around the country for years now making $ off black folks and President Obama had the audacity to want to be President and not ask for his blessings and Smiley hasn’t recovered since Mr Obama got the nomination and thank god for our country and the world became President.

Smiley’s still going around the country;this time bashing the President

West has another self-appointed “leader” of all things black has been making $ not only as an author but also as a University Professor at Princeton and making even more $ off the backs of black folks.

Cornell West has admitted that he still hasn’t gotten over not getting an invitation to the 2009 Inauguration.2009!

When will folks realize that a Leader actually leads and makes things happen instead of running their traps all day and only words come out but no actions?

Neither West or Smiley have held a political job to really help the black community they want to help so much.

I refuse to give any legitimacy to West and Smiley!

  25. [PRESIDENT] OBAMA’S QUIET REVOLUTION: As the pundits scream, THE PRESIDENT *WAS/IS* REVITALIZING GOVERNMENT

… one extremely consequential area where Obama has done just about everything a liberal could ask for—but done it so quietly that almost no one, including most liberals, has noticed. OBAMA THREE REPUBLICAN PREDECESSORS WERE ALL COMMITTED TO WEAKENING or even destroying the country’s regulatory apparatus: THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY (EPA), THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION (OSHA), and the other agencies that are supposed to protect workers and consumers by regulating business practices. NOW OBAMA IS SEEKING TO REBUILD THESE BATTERED INSTITUTIONS. In doing so, he isn’t simply improving the effectiveness of various government offices or making scattered progress on a few issues; he is resuscitating an entire philosophy of government with roots in the Progressive era of the early 20th century. Taken as a whole, Obama’s revival of these agencies is arguably the most significant accomplishment of his first year in office…

… Obama’s regulatory appointments could not be more different—no surprise given that he is the son of two social scientists (one of whom attempted to introduce scientific administration to Kenya) and that he once worked in academia himself. Indeed, the flow of expertise into the federal bureaucracy over the past year has been reminiscent of what took place at the start of the New Deal.

For instance, as a replacement for Foulke at OSHA, Obama chose David Michaels, a professor of environmental and occupational health at George Washington University. In 2008 Michaels published a book, Doubt Is Their Product: How Industry’s Assault on Science Threatens Your Health, detailing how businesses had delayed regulations by “manufacturing uncertainty” about scientific findings.

To manage the EPA, Obama appointed a slew of highly experienced state environmental officials. His choice to run the agency was Lisa Jackson, a chemical engineer who led the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. Her deputies include the former secretary of the environment in Maryland, as well as the former heads of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, the Massachusetts Bureau of Resource Protection, and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.

Meanwhile, Obama chose as his Food and Drug Administration (FDA) chief Margaret Hamburg, who achieved renown during the 1990s as health commissioner of New York City, where she developed a program for controlling tuberculosis that led to a sharp decline in the disease. Jonathan Jarvis, Obama’s director of the National Park Service, is a 34-year veteran of the agency—and the first biologist to lead it. And his new administrator of FEMA is W. Craig Fugate, who performed outstandingly as Jeb Bush and Charlie Crist’s head of emergency management in Florida. Fugate may not know anything about Arabian stallions—but he does know a thing or two about hurricanes.

THE UPSHOT OF APPOINTING THE RIGHT PEOPLE—and giving them enough funding, as Obama is working to do—IS THAT THE REGULATORY AGENCIES ARE ONCE AGAIN ABLE TO SERVE THEIR INTENDED PURPOSE. Already, it is possible to discern signs of progress. In her first year at the EPA, Jackson granted California a waiver to impose tougher greenhouse-gas standards for new automobiles, which the Bush administration had denied. She declared that the EPA would set standards for greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act. And she accepted the EPA staff’s recommendations for tougher smog standards—recommendations that had been rebuffed by the previous EPA head. Science, it seems clear, is back in command at the EPA.

At OSHA, the Bush administration, with the support of Republicans in Congress, had repealed the rules governing ergonomic injuries (which account for 30 percent of compensation claims filed by workers). OSHA even eliminated the column in the reports that companies file where such injuries were supposed to be listed. Obama’s OSHA immediately restored the column and is working on a new national regulatory standard for these injuries.

During the Bush years, there was growing evidence that diacetyl, an artificial flavoring used in making popcorn and other food, was causing severe lung illness among workers exposed to it. Foulke refused to take action, declaring the extensive science documenting the link to be “murky.” Moreover, Foulke failed to develop standards governing silica dust—which has also been linked to lung ailments. Obama’s OSHA is moving ahead on both fronts. In October, OSHA also levied its largest fine ever, requiring BP to pay $87 million for a 2005 explosion that killed 15 workers in Texas…

Yet history rarely moves in leaps and bounds, and, by just about any reasonable standard, OBAMA’S APPROACH TO REGULATION HAS BEEN EXTREMELY IMPRESSIVE…

It’s possible, however, that politics may soon intrude. In 1993 Clinton, too, attempted to revive the regulatory agencies by appointing well-qualified personnel and increasing funding. But, after Republicans took control of Congress in 1994, they managed to cut Clinton’s budget proposals and delay or block the implementation of regulations. If Democrats lose Congress this November, the same thing could happen again. In that case, what has been Obama’s most significant achievement to date would come to naught…

[But, there's a difference...Obama isn't Clinton! And, the TeaPublicans don't have the majority in the Senate!]

Durin’ the Reagan/Bush I/II ERAs, the federal agencies were “gutted,” defunded, “demanned” (Is there such a word? ), and “Bush-burrowed!”

And, even today, the House under TeaPublicans’ control still “pushes” for continued deregulation of those agencies. So that, they can continue to be ineffective!!!

  28. …Koch pioneered such schemes. A Koch executive contrived the first oil-indexed price swap between Koch Industries and Chase Manhattan Bank 25 years ago. From 1990-92, Koch, oil companies and Wall Street lobbied to deregulate oil speculation. It paid off.

In 1993, Wendy Gramm, CFTC chair approved an exemption from government regulation for key energy futures contracts. In 2000, her husband, U.S. Sen. Phil Gramm (R-Texas), attached an amendment deregulating the oil speculation market to the Commodities Futures Modernization Act, which was attached to a spending bill and signed by President Clinton. So big oil speculation markets were born (including Enron’s doomed schemes). By 2008, regulators were defenseless when speculators caused gas prices to spike to unprecedented levels. A bipartisan majority in the House overwhelmingly empowered the CFTC to supervise oil speculation, but Senate Republicans — backed by Koch lobbyists — killed the bill. In 2010, Koch funded Tea Party groups and others to fight financial reforms.

“Since the Koch-Gramm-Enron deregulation bonanza, non-commercial oil speculators have flooded the market and increased the price volatility of oil in leaps and bounds, hurting consumers and businesses across the globe while making a small set of oil barons and financial giants very rich,” Fang writes.

  29. I click and twitter nearly ever site. I get a lot of replies on stuff ppl did not know.

  30. Wow. I wonder if any of he Repub Justices will stand up and tell the truth or prove that we’ve completely devolved to rank partisanship in the courts.

(Same for the Dem Justices of course if it is more like Prosser is saying)

  31. MQ is trying to divide NATO nations who are getting squeamish and also getting them to what had looked like a stalemate. But today the Freedom Fighters had a lot of success moving forwar thus neutralizing MQ arguement. Also the Intl Red Cross has been able to reunite some families, soccer team came out for FF–all positives for FF. Nato did some good work around Brega y/day. I think the last 60 miles to Tripoli will be the hardest. So we all have to pray!!

  32. So the whole black community feels the same. The are messing with the wrong group

  33. West was a supporter.

    But a later supporter.

    His friendsip is always conditional.

Hence, with friends like this, who needs any enemies.

West’s verbiage and that of Smiley’s in Feb of 2008 on C-SPAN, were disturbing for me.

    My suspision of them grew.

  34. I like the firmness for which you speak and maintain this glorious site.

    Thank you BWD.

Hope your B-Day yesterday went well.

I was having problems to post after 2 commentaries, yesterday. So I was not able to wish you well on your B-Day.

  35. I see your Tracy Morgan & Sister King (who has done nothing but speak the truth), and give you Dan Savage and that vile and evil hating Tammy Bruce. According to Savage, African-Americans need to be “taught” about homosexuality. Bruce who spew bile about First Lady Michelle Obama.

  36. WOW!

Coupled w/other information about Koch Bros. & Co., this *IS* further enlightenin’…

This *IS* Clinton (Tweety’s “President of the World”) and a GOP-controlled Congress at their worst!

They all need to be “thrown underneath the jail”…Grrr!

I wonder are WH, DOJ, SEC, and CFTC aware of all these “shenanigans”…There’s plenty of backstories!

30 Years of ‘Starving The Beast’ Politics… http://gocl.me/maHCLE

And, I wish PBHO had ‘line-item veto’ power!

  37. Yes, another bit that we can put on Clinton AND Bush. 16 years setting the stage to rip off the world causing starvation along the way for many countries. Most people in the US will never bother to connect the high price at the pump to millions starving around the world, and the republicans would like to keep it that way.
I have so many reasons why I am angry with Bill Clinton.

  38. Gee, Do you think he’d like to see the US default so he can make millions? Perhaps he ought to walk out of the budget talks and try and make that happen.
If he is doing this, how many more republicans are doing the same thing?

  39. Rachel’s ratings are sagging, ooops dragging, oops not so high anymore, So what to do, sya something outrageous and get a momentarty bump.. stuff like that will not last. Not too long ago I went on a vacation and where we lodged MSNBC was not available. I have not watched ‘that show’ with the same type of ‘got-to watch it tonight’ attitude since then. Not missing anything as far as I can see. Yet if we do not watch it sometimes, we will not be able to keep her honest.

BWD thanks for keeping us enlightened

  40. This is so freaky and frightening – the fervor with which these women idolize Gaddafi, and the fact that human life doesn’t seem to mean anything to Gaddafi’s followers is terrifying. Will the whole country be sacrificed to keep one man in power?? Not good.

  41. 450K for total small donors and 550K for total overall donors. I’m still unsure if they’re talking about contributors or contributions.

  42. Contributors. Even at $5 times 550,000 will bring in $2,750,000. Hopefully most will be able to donate more than $5.

  43. can we get this out there more? SOrry about the bad punctuation…I hurt my back and it’s hard to move right now:)

  44. Three or four witnesses to an assault, all justices of the Supreme Court of the state of Wisconsin. Which ones will be bought off and swear they did not see anything, and which ones will affirm their oaths? Stay tuned.

We are about to see just how powerful Koch money actually is in judicial circles in Wisconsin. We already know it can buy United States Supreme Court Justices.

  45. I think Nancy is going to ask for an investigaion possible conflict of interest and he is a rat besides.

  46. This is propaganda. This is what the Nazi would do when they was trying to remain powerful. He probably paid them a whole alot of money to do it.

  47. Was just reading “Theodore Rex” by Edmund Morris and I thought this site would get a kick out of these quotes.

Robert La Follette had been studying railroad finance for thirty years, and thought that the President might listen to him on the subject.

“But you can’t get any such bill as that through Congress.”

“That is not the first consideration, Mr. President.”

“But I want to get something through,” Roosevelt said.

    ++++++

A common characteristic of the progressives: their fierce, preachy, perpetual grimness. They could no more convey the humor of a situation than they could view a perquisite without frowning. For fifteen minutes or a thousand words, they bracingly commanded attention, even admiration; then they lost it. They simply went on too long and too loudly. La Follette noticed that when he got up to speak, his colleagues drifted out of the chamber.

    ======

    Got to love history.

  48. At the time, he was marketing a movie, and as we all know, the fastest way to obtain a media following is to bash President Obama. We’ve seen it time and time again: the Donald, Choi, etc. I’m so proud of the people like Tom Hanks and Sarah Silverman who keep it real. Thanks for reporting about her, bwd!

  49. Given my time zone I will need to be awake at 4am to learn of the decision of the ICC on the fate of war criminal, terrorist, mass murderer and all around scum bag Col Daffi and his spawn – a moment I will not miss.

Daffi is the ultimate terrorist — long before Osama as you all know. He owns the heinous crime of PamAm 103 and so many other crimes which we are likely to never know. In the next few hours, along with all of you, I hope this monster and his spawn are finally given zero oxygen.

Good night all of you who support the liberation of Libya, the inalienable rights of every person and the rule of law.

  50. Last night Beyonce performed in front of 170,000 the biggest concert..
and when she performed “At Last” look at the people’s reaction they love PBO…..Love it:-)

So while they hating on him at home…somewhere in the world there’s plenty of love for you Mr. President

    Enjoy:-)

  51. Yes, I so agree with John, I have had this feeling for awhile, President Obama may be the man for now, but is definitely a man for the future.. and seems to want so much for the country, and the world to come together, for the good of us all. John is to be admired for his willingness to give us his wisdom, Thank you. I would wish he is listened to.

  52. Will President Obama get credit for the drop? He was getting grief for the rise in costs!! He has a strong back and carries a lot of stuff around, I pray for his safety.. So much negativity and hate around.
