  1. Watching the WH LiveStream. It’s funny. The troops just started cheering because someone brought out his notes to the podium. Crazy. And funny. Congrats to them because they deserve this recognition.

  2. Oh no Biden, the longer he talks the more he stumbles. As he would say, God Love Him.

  3. lol, VP Biden! Watch your language, young man, you’re going to get chastised by the media again!

  4. Joe – God love him. He cracks me up. I bet his family is a ‘hoot’.

  5. :-D Ya know, I hadn’t thought about it, but I bet family would be a blast to share Thanksgiving dinner with!

  6. Obama looks STRONG, confident, HAPPY and just GREAT I LOVE HIM. OBAMA2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. oh yea thought i’d share this; I live in New York and i saw PBO in person yesterday, and it was GREAT!!!!!! BROOKLYN LOVES OBAMA. OBAMA2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. I missed it – hope they show it again – maybe it will be on one of the MSNBC shows tonight – I hope!

  9. It’s still on, C-SPAN. President Obama really thanking the troops and their service.

He also said it was Military spouse appreciation day.

  10. When he mentioned the military lives lost, a couple of the guys seemed to be fighting very hard to not let the tears flow. :(

  11. Ditto with the story of the girl whose dad died in the World Trade Center.

  12. I cried through the whole thing :)

President Obama now greeting everybody. He got a t-shirt — hope we see a picture of it.

  13. Thanks BWD! I got a chance to view it and it was marvelous! I hope Chipsticks gets a chance to upload it for us at TOD. I never get tired of seeing POTUS speak!

  14. Great speech, he even managed to work in the segregation of schools. I love this guy.

He seems very relaxed and comfortable with the military crowd. He is truly their Commander and Chief. A great victory for the military and our President.

This type of video is what people will watch and remember, not the pundits who analyze if the photos should be released or if waterboarding helped.

President Obama talking about how our country’s best days are still ahead of us in a room full of kakhi, that is the memorable sound byte.

  15. Yes, when he told of her dad’s last words to her. The soldiers know many daddys who are now watching over their children.

  16. Live coverage ends, but will be repeated. C-SPAN says President Obama awarded several citations.

And the WHCD dinner is the most watched video at C-SPAN’s YouTube channel.

  17. the prez choked up retelling the story of the 4 year-old now 14. wow. what a week. I love sharing these times here at BWDEEE’S!

  18. I always get a little nervous when Joe B. is speaking, wondering, and a tad afraid, about what he is going to say next. I guess that’s part of his appeal—–real, no pretense whatsoever, an everyman. I was anxious to hear from the President though, so I was happy when Joe wrapped it up even though it appeared he could possibly talk forever.

  19. I will have to view later. Thanks for the live blog.

Hopefully we will have lots of service men and women coming home soon. Maybe we can put them to work all over the country rebuilding our infrastructure and laying down ObamaRail….yeah :-)!

    USA! USA! USA!

  20. A review from one of my patrons who is ex-military: he loved the speech, and as he was speaking to me, I could see him get teared up.

  21. One of the things I love most about this President is that he has been supporting military families from the day he took office. Strengthening the VA, removing DADT, asking other government agencies to work with military families, Elizabeth Warren appointing Holly Patreus to the CFPS.

this week I created a posting and a video featuring all the First Lady and Jill biden are doing to help military families.

GN – this week please put this article into your summary.

Michele and Jill: Support for Military Families

    http://www.whatisworking.com/2009/05/support-for-military-families.html

This administration is such a class act in all respects, we are so lucky.

  22. bwd, thank you thank you thank you, shoq, and angryblacklady for confronting this bible thumping and sanctimonious hectoring about the so-called injustice of bin Laden’s killing and the tsk tsking at people who are dancing on his grave. Do these guys ever stop thinking they’re so much better than everyone else? Michael Moore and gg: you are officially better people than the rest of us because of your concern for obl’s rights, happy? Now give a rest!

  23. Right now there is a top rec’d diary on the Old Orange, chastising MM for his nutty stance on OBL killing. When the PL cannot agree with MM, you know he has gone way, way too far.

  24. LOL, I would just love to have Biden and his family at my house for Thanksgiving. It would be fun for days, especially if he and one of my uncles could have a real conversation. I love Joe Biden.

  25. They know that if they side with him=laughingstock. I put zero trust in that place although I am aware that there are still some great people there.

Extremely unkind of MM and GG to wag fingers at victims and families who are happy that obl is dead. They need to cut it out IMO.

  26. “SOUND BITE POLITICS IS DANGEROUS FOR DEMOCRACY”

I totally cribbed that quote from Deaniac at TPV and I am posting it all over the internet. Be my guest and share it as far as you can.

  27. What is Mr. Moore saying? I ask because I know if I go actually read his website that I will probably punch the monitor, which will hurt my hand and prevent me from attending tonight’s Prince concert.

  28. Hello everyone..Enjoy your weekend..!! :D

  29. Before we get past this glorious last week of PBO events I wanted to mention the behind the scenes implosion of the GOP.

We know about the surreal attempts to spin the killing of OBL as Bush’s victory (gag), but TPM these last few days has noted that the precious Tea Party agenda is up in smoke.

GOP Ways and Means chair is not even going to let attempts to repeal Obamacare out of committee because it will only hurt Republicans, in his view, when it inevitably dies in the Senate and/or by veto.

Same chair says Paul Ryan’s privatization of Medicare isn’t going anywhere either. Boehner and even Cantor concede its not going anywhere just to angrily deny it on Twitter. Twitter is their way of lying to their base.

Tim Pawlenty is angry that the GOP is going to cut a deal raising the debt ceiling that likely has no specifics on budget cutting, just targets.

It was pointed out today that once you eliminate the Medicare privatization gambit, Paul Ryan’s proposed federal budget doesn’t even balance, even if one concedes the massively inaccurate Heritage Foundation predictions of the effect of another tax cut for the wealthy.

Barely 100 days after this fire-breathing Congress took over and their major promises are in the dust. Leaves them more time to snub the heroes of Navy Seal 6 by refusing to pass a resolution thanking them. (Support the Troops!)

Oh, and the Fox News Debate among the five least interesting GOP hopefuls was apparently FDA approved for those who don’t tolerate Ambien well.

    Obamanos!!!

  30. I guess the PL wanted a capture, incarceration, and 6 year long Hague show trial so Osama could have plenty more time and a world stage to spew his shit.

Forgive me, but I have to think these people would have let their hearts bleed for Hitler had been captured. Any Lefty finding fault with this is just a miserable human being trying to drag us into their self-loathing.

  31. I don’t remember asking the P.L. to be my arbiter of when I get to experience joy or relief. If its okay with them I will take care of my emotions in my own way and let them go their merry.

The consistent theme among the PL this week has been to scold everyone for feeling any happiness about this. Some by reminding us that Al Qaeda still exists, others by pointing out how much the wars cost, or that suffering still exists, or that other people have died at our hand, or that we are bad people for feeling good that the monster is dead.

These PL all seem to be damaged people and narcissists to boot. They think a television camera is a therapist and they are going to work out all their Daddy issues on us. I don’t need the advice from this scolds to simmer down and not show any enthusiasm. My son is 23, and he says he can hardly remember when the issue of terrorism wasnt the number one subject in our civic lives. It has had a big impact on the young. I cheer the opportunity to say that we can close the book on OBL and the mess the GOP made of our country in response to him.

My son deserves to think of a future where terrorism isn’t being used by OBL or the GOP against the citizens of the United States. So, dear friends in the PL, let me scold you a bit: your 15 minutes are up.

  32. To me, they’re being bible thumpers showing us how pure they are, what sweetie pies they are, how wedded to their convictions while the rest of us are so impure and such hypocrites. What-eva! I don’t believe for a minute that they’re having a sad over bin Laden. They’re enjoying feeling contemplative and better than the rest of us, lol.

  33. Moore is arguing that Bin Laden’s killing was an execution, and instead he should have been captured and taken to prison and undergone trial.

  34. Bingo. That’s the word I needed: they’re acting like the town scold. lol, who needs it. Great comment, tao.

  35. Thanks Tori but I just have one observation.

When ever PBO addresses the troops it always seems that the guys in the background behind him have been drawn from what I call the “Marine Face” Which is, don’t smile, don’t cheer and never, ever show any emotion. Those guys looked like a painted back drop, not real people at all. I’ve seen this more than once and I have wondered if it is done on purpose.

Frankly, I would rather see a plain backdrop behind the Prez rather than those ‘frozen faces.’

  36. You are so LUCKY @ Prince. Enjoy for the rest of us!

Here’s a taste of Michael Moore, currently the town scold (h/t tao jones), chastising us:
I don’t understand y they just don’t admit this: It was an execution/assassination. 80% of Americans would approve. “Trials get in the way!”
    ***
I understand the sentiment because we all want OBL gone. But these statements are an admission that our great American Experiment is dead.
    ***
And, I’m sorry: Ground Zero is a graveyard of heroes and victims. It is not a place to hold a party, spray champaign, & shout “USA! USA!”

Sampling of the bible thumping. bwd, shoq and angryblacklady told him to hush; abl told him to be more respectful of the victims and their families and stop the chastising.

  37. It was a great speech and I passed Tori’s link on to the two active duty Marines in my family.

  38. Yes he has! Bless also, Jill Biden and Michelle Obama for what they are doing to help military families. Their work is much appreciated and will not be forgotten.

  39. Sorry, my barf bucket has runneth over too much this week. I wish some of these jerks were hanging their heads out windows so I could dump it!

  40. He looks happier than I’ve seen him in ages. Just beaming. Must be a huge relief to have Bin Laden and be thinking we can really draw down in Afghanistan and Iraq.

  41. If I am ever down, I am not this week, I come here and just get Happy or picked up.

    Thank You.

The job you do, BWD, just awesome.

  42. I think we’re seeing a shift from Hail Mary attempts to win the Presidency into “Save the House Majority” mode. I think it was a combination of the Ryan Budget being a flop, having no strong Presidential candidates and the killing of OBL that led them to this decision.

The Ryan Budget pushback spooked a lot of GOP House Reps – The GOP Freshmen know their seats were Dem seats last cycle, meaning they’re in purple districts and they were being forced to vote for a far right ideological budget.

Of course this could be a tactical retreat of sorts, waiting to spring something later.

It’s also worth noting in a Presidential year, the non-Presidential party is limited to begin with as once the GOP Presidential Primary season kicks off the party starts taking swipes at each other and the Presidential candidates would be asked to weigh in on Congressional bills and stunts. Boehner and Cantor can’t run a tea party House when the Republican Presidential candidates try and stake out “serious candidate” ground.

It’s quite possible that Boehner/Cantor knew this, which is why they threw all their red meat bills early in hopes of appeasing the teabaggers, while also hoping the votes they took early will not hold as much weight 16 months from now in the final stretch of campaign season. Freshmen Reps will say “Gee, we were new to the House and got caught up in voting as we were told, but now we have experience to know better and we should only be judged by our more recent votes.” While of course telling the teabagger crowd that “Look at our earlier votes – we voted to pass a lot of stuff you like, but the Senate and President blocked it – if you want the stuff we voted to pass you need to flip the Senate and take the White House.

Winning back the House for the Dems is paramount for any President Obama second term Legacy Bills. If We have the House, keep the Senate – even if we don’t have 60 seats in the Senate I think President Obama will be willing to play hardball with the Senate if they go in pure obstruction mode if they have a House Bill and a majority in the Senate.

I wish they played stupid even longer.

  43. BWD Thank you, soo much, and well done.
    The Airborne unit says it all Job Well Done;
and the sign was done by themselves, this is big, this President does not brag he gets the job done.
How FOX, Palin. bachmann, Linbaugh, and the rest of the MSM will be able to spin this one out?.

  44. That “Job Well Done” is cringeworthy in a “Mission Accomplished” sort of way.

Don’t think THAT won’t come back to haunt them the instant something goes wrong (and it will) like some terrorist blowing themselves up somewhere.

  45. I don’t think it’s done on purpose. These guys love their president and you can tell by the number of cameras that go up when he appears. They had the same stone face when VP Biden talked – in fact, they showed even more emotion when PBO came on. Also, I noticed that their “cheers” were very specific utterances. I believe it’s standard military protocol that they have to follow.

  46. “Job Well Done” isn’t quite like “Mission Accomplished.” If anything, the administration has been adamant in insisting that the struggle continues. “Job well done” is about this particular mission, and the job that US soldiers have done in Afghanistan since the increase in troops. This administration isn’t crowing about everything being over except for the parades and the handing out of contracts to KBR.

  47. They suck shitty lemons! Sorry, but I have totally had it with that critical sanctimonious crowd. They are welcome to line up and kiss my plastic Jesus!

I enjoyed saying that one more time because I have to give up Jesus to my brother on Sunday.

  48. I assure you, LL, he was not alone in his emotion.

When President Obama reached the part of the speech in which he described the young Payton and the horror that 4 y/o must have experienced as her father spoke with her knowing he was soon to die – from that part of the speech to the end – he touched as deeply into the spirit of this Nation as any person ever has.

The faces on the troops behind him, several clearly doing everything they could not to begin weeping, reveal just how deeply the President touched all of us with his understanding and profound empathy.

    Yes.We.Can. … DO.More.Together!

  49. Aquagranny, as I noted in another post, if you watch closely from the moment the President begins recounting the story of Payton, you will see several of those troops doing all they can to suppress the emotions the President evoked.

These are professional warriors who have seen war, some several times, and all that that does to a person. And yet, they were moved and the way they applauded at the end was as genuine as any display of support one could imagine.

So, I’m not challenging your observation, but just suggesting that what may not appear to be much emotion, when you view those troops in the context of who they are and what they have learned to endure, well their response to the President’s words is even more touching than if they had all been weeping.

  50. SR, I just wanted to say that I always appreciate your well thought out posts on subjects like this.

I think if the Dems win back the House and maintain enough control of the Senate you may see some changes in the Senate rules so the GOP can’t be as obstructionistic.

But your basic thesis is right, without winning back the House things will be in a lot of trouble. I think DWS is going to be going all out on messaging for the Dems, making sure people don’t forget things like the vote on the Ryan budget, the holding hostage the middle class just so the rich could keep their tax breaks, not ringing up a single bill to improve jobs, etc.

And if some of th newer reps (and even some of the older ones who were supposed to be more moderate) try the argument you mentioned, the comeback is simply, “Give us one good reason to believe you.”

  51. Thanks, Tao! I wish I could figure out how to shrink it so it wouldn’t be so fuzzy.

  52. Why didn’t MM organize a group to go and capture OBL alive if he really, really, really, feels it was important to conduct the mission with capturing OBL as the primary goal? IOW, instead of b*t(hing about it, he should have put his vast resources to use doing it the way he wanted it done. I’m sick of these “armchair” presidents who wait on PBO to act and then complain in an effort to make it seem as if he made the wrong decision.

  53. bwd! you retweeted droogie! He was so much fun at the other place. One of many who said, no mas.

  54. I didn’t mean anything bad about my observation. I have two active duty Marines in my family and I know all about not showing emotion in public if you are a Marine. I just think the average person may not understand that and may think those guys don’t support our Prez. I guess I didn’t express my thoughts very well.

  55. WIW – YOU are a ‘class act in all respects’ and thank you for all you do everyday.

    Yes.We.Can. … DO.More.Together!

  56. ^Thanks, Tori…

PBHO exemplifies what a real Commander-in-Chief should be…Just like us, the troops love ‘im!

    And, of course, there’s VPJB.

    YES.WE.CAN…DO.More, Together (h/t Bobr) ;)
    YES.WE.CAN, Again Make History…Obama/Biden 2012!

  57. Hey Tigerfist88,

we missed you! Have a wonderful weekend and mothers day!

  58. Is anyone having a difficult time trying to get onto ablchronicles? I keep getting a pop-up that tells me I’m trying to open a file.application/vnd.wap.xhtml+xml

Can someone tell this techno-goof what to do? ‘Cause I’m confuzzled.

  59. Hillary was been a wonderful SOS. I hope she reconsiders and stay on another four years. I know things will calm down after 2012 and she won’t need to jet set so much.

  60. The Republicans wouldn’t even come debate. They got a bunch of maybes and I’ve seen headlines that this nobody won, not Pawlenty, not Ron Paul, somebody even lesser known than those two.

  61. Hello all, just wanted to share some music that sums up how I’m feeling after a long week, and it speaks to our President and the First Lady and Americans who support them.

  62. It’s too stressful with too much travel. PBO lives at his place of work and travels on AF1.

I’m still not convinced Hillary is done with politics either, and she’d need to be outside of the Obama Administration to get the gears churning. I could see her retire from public office initially and start up a Global non-partisan Womans Rights charity and run it for a couple years, and maybe move into a swingstate to take on a teaching gig. Than in two years she’ll look at where she is and if she has it in her for another grueling campaign.

If she decides not to run, I think the eventual Dem nominee will give her an epic hard sell to join their ticket and be the VP candidate. As VP candidate she’d get to be happily retired for 3.5 years, and only have to campaign 3-4 months.

Hickenlooper/Clinton or Warner/Clinton would be my bets for 2016 this far out.

  63. This President is so magnificient, so smart, so cool under extreme circumstances and such a terrific leader, that I wonder who is remotely qualified to fill his shoes and walk in them. America is truly blessed to have this genuine, strong and confident man as its President, that I am forced to think of what will happen when he leaves office in 2016.

Can anyone picture the likes of the republican clowns trying to do what PBO did this week? His accomplishments are astounding!! After taking a beating at their town hall meetings, the repubs are now running away from the Ryan plan, they are scared of the seniors and are back pedalling that they wont touch medicare! What they fail to realize is that people are not stupid, they’ll remember exactly what ryan and company had planned to do. Survival is the most basic human trait, and given the durrent republican stand, I dare to think these senior citizens will give their republican votes to President Obama. He said he will not touch medicare, and he is a man of his word.

Candidate Obama said he would hunt down Bin Laden and kill him, and as President, thats exactly what he has done. I am totally against killing, but Bin Laden caused too much pain and got his just reward.

Overall, PBO had a great week and I’m extremely happy for him!!

  64. Yup, SR. Winning back the house must be the paramount priority for the dems along with the presidency in 2012.

  65. Really Fred ? Job well done is ‘cringeworthy’ ? Care to explain it ?

  66. Folks, it’S 10h45 PM ET. MSNBC QUICK !

THERE is a special report on the Bin Laden operation. Interesting stuff.

I’m wondering if the little video we’ve talked about today, featuring President Obama, with music, etc… is in fact the conclusion of this hour special.

    Watching…

  67. SR I see where you are going with this but I don’t see Hillary running as VP. I see her as running for president in 2016 if she wants to run.

This will be her last shot kind of like 1968 was the last shot for Richard Nixon. She will have even more leverage because her popularity will have increased because of her relationship with President Obama and the fine work she did at the State Dept. If you check out her popularity numbers they have gone up.

If she wants to go for the nomination in 2016 she would have a great chance at taking it. And I wouldn’t mind her running again.

  68. I agree. It’s too late for the republicans to back out now. They talked about this budget to everybody and they voted on it so they are on record for voting to eliminate medicare and medicaid. You can’t turn back from something like that.

The Dems and other groups will hit them hard over this vote and Steve Israel even said that they will hammer them over this. It’s too late for the GOP.

  69. Interesting hour special. The conclusion was not the beautiful little clip some of saw on MSNBC today. The last minutes were all about future threats. Sobering I have to say.

  70. via gos, this wapo hilarious bit about PBO.

In the White House Situation Room on Sunday night, the president and his national security team watched a soundless video feed of the raid.

When bin Laden’s corpse was laid out, one of the Navy SEALs was asked to stretch out next to it to compare heights. The SEAL was 6 feet tall. The body was several inches taller.

After the information was relayed to Obama, he turned to his advisers and said: “We donated a $60 million helicopter to this operation. Could we not afford to buy a tape measure?”

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/death-of-osama-bin-laden-phone-call-pointed-us-to-compound–and-to-the-pacer/2011/05/06/AFnSVaCG_story_2.html

A perfectly valid question, don’t you think ? Amazing how this guy’s thinking process works.

  71. hey guys can you put ice cubes song good day up it would be very fiiting for the week we had thanks

  72. AG911,

I know what you mean when you say that the average person may not recognize that the military show their admiration and respect by showing their most distant gazes and being perfectly still when in formation, although being seated behind the president is is not a formation, it is an honor. When you see the emotionless faces behind the president, that is a show of RESPECT! They’ve got the American people and the Commander In Chief’s back. Semper Fi!

  73. Thank you so much Tori for sharing. I am so proud of both the President and the Vice President.

  74. WIW, I totally agree with you. Thank you so much for all the positive news you share. You and BWD are doing heroic work in spreading TRUTH about President Obama.

  75. Well said GN! Michael Moore and Glenn Greenwald have absolutely no idea how insensitive they are to people, including friends of mine, who lost loved ones on that horrifying sept 11th day, 2001. Honestly, these self indulgent people, who are making millions of dollars, need to get a grip. OBL inflicted horror on thousands of people, including children who lost their parents. I am sorry, but I just don’t have any tears for him because he finally paid for his crime against humanity.

  76. Holy Cow, was that Geraldo in the background of the pictorial, laughing as the COC was posing with the Shirt?

    That is interesting.
